Before Use

  1. Ensure that the Quik Vak Bean bag is clean and ready for use.
  2. Inspect for firmness. You should always test the Bean bag prior to use by connecting the suction. Check the firmness of the Quick Vak Bean Bag, listen for audible leaks and test that the Beanbag remains firm.
  3. Soften the Bean Bag. Simply “Click/Push” the tip of the valve down. This will bring the Bean Bag backed to a relaxed soft state. If necessary, you can shake the Bean Bag gently to distribute the beads evenly.
  4. Smoothing the beads. Place the soft Bean Bag on the operating table and smooth the beads to an even and uniform thickness. Be sure to taper the beads at the edges of the BeanBag to avoid thick areas that can cause bumps under the patient.
  5. Ensure that the velcro straps are in place and threaded through the Red Loops.

Applying Suction

Suction can be applied by simply connecting to the wall suction line or to a hand pump – may require a linket to connect the suction tubing. Adequate suction is required to mold the Bean Bag to the patient.

To apply suction

  1. To connect the suction tubing to the valve may require a linket.
  2. Apply suction until the desired firmness, position and access is achieved.
  3. Before disconnecting the suction – click the silver button to seal off the bean bag.
  4. Suction can now be disconnected
  5. Remove the section of tubing from the Quik Vac with the silver button – bean bag will remain vacced and in position.

Molding the Quik Vac Bean Bag

  1. Place the patient on the Bean Bag in its relaxed ‘soft’ state.
  2. Positioning the patient on the Bean Bag. with their head at the narrowest end.
  3. Mold the soft Bean Bag (may require multiple people to achieve depending on size of Beanbag) around the patient’s body or extremities to support the patient in the desired position.
  4. Secure the Velcro Straps
  5. Simply attach the suction line and apply suction.
  6. To soften – reattach the segment of tubing and click together. The Quik Vac can now be repositioned.
  7. Thoroughly clean and dry the Bean Bag after each use and then store flat. Never place sharp or heavy objects on it.
  8. Do not immerse or autoclave.
  9. Replace the velcro straps if required

Checking the Patient’s Position

Always remember to check the patient’s position and stability periodically during the procedure. Ensure that the valve is accessible. Always place the valve in an easily accessible location. It may be necessary to re-attach the suction line to firm-up the Bean Bag during a procedure.
