Safety information for correct handling of candles
Candles create a vivid, natural light, but they also have an open flame. Therefore special care must be taken when handling candles and candle holders.
- Never leave candles burning unattended.
- CAUTION! Do not touch the candle, metal or glass parts when in use. The parts can be very hot.
- Remove all packaging before lighting the candle.
- Never leave children or pets unsupervised near candles.
- Never move burning candles. Wait until the candle has gone out and the candle holder has cooled down.
- Keep them far enough from other heat sources, such as radiators or direct sunlight. Also read the candle manufacturer’s information.
- Always stand the candle on a non-flammable, heat resistant surface, such as a glass plate, stainless steel bowl or suitable candle holder.
- Always stand the candle vertically on the holder provided to avoid uncontrolled wax flow.
- Always keep it away from flammable materials, such as curtains. Follow the candle manufacturer’s instructions regarding distance. We recommend a minimum distance of 50cm.
- Keep the candle flame away from drafts. A candle can only burn evenly and without sooty smoke if the flame isn’t disturbed by air movement. If the candle is clearly making sooty smoke, extinguish it and use a new candle. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
- The candle’s wick should be about 10-15mm long. If the wick is too long, the candle could give off sooty smoke. If necessary, when the candle is not burning, cut the wick to the correct length with a wick trimmer. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Do not stand candles too close together. We recommend a distance of at least 10cm between candles. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Never put lit candles on top of each other.
- Never blow out candles. Use a candle snuffer or extinguishing lid to put out the candle.
- Never use water or flammable liquids to put out the candle.
Always store candles in a cool, dry, dust free and, if possible, dark place.
Make sure that the candles can’t get bent. Do not pile them too high as the
weight could cause undesired pressure points. Always store candles separately
by colour to avoid undesired stains on the candles. Follow the candle
manufacturer’s instructions for correct storage of the candles.
Only use undamaged candles.
Never let the candle burn down completely. We recommend extinguishing the
candle when 2-3 cm remain.
Use
The SQUARE CANDLE is designed for candles with a circumference of 20–24mm. The
candle length can vary as you wish, but must not exceed 25cm. This is
essential for ensuring the candle holder stands safely.
Stand the candle in the centre of the hole provided for it. Make sure it is
placed securely and press the candle far enough onto the spike. Particular
care must be taken with stearin candles. Stearin candles have a tendency to
break at the bottom when put on the spike.
Only use high quality candles. Poor candle quality could lead to unwanted
leakage of wax from the candle.
Maintenance, cleaning and storage
You can remove any remnants of wax as follows:
- Remove big bits of wax by hand. Don’t use sharp objects as you might scratch the surface.
- Put a piece of blotting paper in the oven, preferably on a piece of baking paper to avoid making a mess of the oven.
- Put the candle holder in the oven over the blotting paper so that it catches the melted wax. It is best to put a wooden skewer under the SQUARE CANDLE so that the product is not in direct contact with the blotting paper.
- Heat the oven to 60°C.
- The wax begins to melt and is absorbed by the blotting paper.
- Let the SQUARE CANDLE cool sufficiently before taking it out of the oven.
The metal surface can be cleaned with warm water and a standard detergent.
Don’t use steel wool, wire brushes, scourers or other abrasive cleaners.
Always keep all parts in a safe, dry place.
Only use höfats spare parts when replacing faulty or broken parts. The
guarantee is no longer valid if replacement parts are used which are not
höfats spare parts.
