By purchasing this product you are in receipt of the SPIN manual and you agree to follow the safety procedures and proper use outlined in the rest of the manual. This document is part of the device. Please read through the following instructions carefully and completely before using the fireplace. Please keep the manual at a protected place in order to have the instructions at hand at any time.
All provisions in this manual have to be absolutely complied with.

Attention danger! Whenever you find this sign in the manual, we ask you to observe particular prudence.
Warning of hot surface! There is the danger of burning yourself due to hot surface. Always wear protective gloves!

SPIN was tested and checked according to DIN EN 16647. Nevertheless, non- observance of these safety instructions and precautionary measures can lead to serious injuries or damage to property through fire or explosion.

Attention! Intended and proper use:

The device must only be operated as a decorative fireplace on even and solid undergrounds and is only intended for private use. In combination with the increasing element or the ground spike, SPIN is only destined for outdoor use. Without additional accessories (increasing element or ground spike), SPIN can also be used in well-ventilated rooms.

Only use this article according to the instructions laid down in this manual. Any other operation of SPIN is regarded improper use and can lead to material or personal damage.
The manufacturer assumes no liability for damage caused by improper use.

Only use the SPIN fireplace as described.

• When operating a decorative fireplace, an increased fire risk is given. Always hold ready a fire extinguisher in case of an accident or a mishap. Never extinguish the flame with water for this might lead to a steam explosion and can cause severe burns.
• For the use of SPIN, you must only use the höfats fire gel. You can use the höfats combustion gel can or fill the fire gel into the refill cup.
• You can also refill a used combustion gel can. Nevertheless, we recommend you to change the can after every use. An already used can tends to rust and is thus no longer safe.
• Immediately discard damaged cups (e.g. rust or deformation) and replace with new ones.
• In case SPIN shows an unnatural, uncontrolled burning behavior, extinguish the fire with the extinguishing lid resp. extinguish the fire immediately with a fire blanket or a fire extinguisher.
• Do not use liquid bioethanol or other flammable liquids such as spirit or petroleum.
• Never fill combustibles or combustion gel directly into the fireplace as combustibles or combustion gel can leak from the housing and thus lead to uncontrolled fire. Always use an  original höfats combustion gel can.
• ATTENTION! DANGER OF LIFE! Never pour combustibles into a still warm, hot or even burning device! The combustibles can deflagrate and cause an increased danger of explosion.
• Never refill hot and / or warm cups or cans with combustible fire gel
• Never relight a hot cup. The hot bioethanol forms – together with air – a highly flammable, even explosive mixture.
• ATTENTION! Never leave children or pets unattended near the hot fireplace. Pay special attention when lighting, operating and cooling off the fireplace.
• ATTENTION! The glass cylinder of this fireplace becomes extremely hot and the fireplace itself must not be moved during operation.
• Indoor use of SPIN is only possible in well ventilated rooms; does not burn completely odorless and residue-free, it nevertheless produces carbon dioxide and water, i.e. the air gets more humid and is consumed more quickly. Except for SPIN, no other fire must be operated in the same room.
  SPIN is only destined for decorative use and must not be used for heating purposes or permanent operation.

ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT SAFETY INST-RUCTIONS AND HAZARD WARNINGS

• Always store the combustion gel cans in rooms where no open fire exists – bioethanol is a combustible which evaporates when open. With temperatures higher than 21° C (70° F) and in combination with air, it forms a highly flammable, even explosive mixture. Do not store more than 5 liters (1,3 gallons) of highly flammable liquids in your home. Observe national and regional regulations, rules, laws and other legally binding requirements of your place of residence regarding the storage and handling of highly flammable liquids. The requirements may vary depending on your location.
• Keep a minimum distance of 60 cm from glass surfaces such as windows, doors or similar.
• Any combustible outside the combustion gel can has to be removed prior to lighting.
• Never operate SPIN under conditions of strong air draught.
• Observe a minimum distance of 60 cm (23,6″) to flammable surfaces, objects and walls.
• There should not be any flammable objects above SPIN, minimum distance 60 cm (23,6″).

• Wait until SPIN has completely cooled off before transporting the fireplace.
• When operating SPIN, make sure that a secure and solid stand for the fireplace is given.
• Do not put any objects onto the device.
• Combustion gel is mixed with thickening agents and thus does not burn completely odorless and residue-free.
• Watch out for flames out of the opening of the fireplace.
• Do not modify or change the product in any kind.
• Damaged products resp. accessories must no longer be used.
• The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damages caused by incorrect, careless or improper use.
• The manufacturer does not assume any liability for damages caused due to operating the device in an improper way; the same is true for any claim of third parties.
• The manual is based on the regulations and provisions of the European Union. Please also observe country-specific regulations and laws when using SPIN abroad!
• Always observe the national and international safety, health and work specifications.
• The immediate surroundings have to be free from highly flammable or explosive substances.
• It is not recommended that individuals under 18 years of age handle the SPIN device.
• Always operate SPIN carefully in good physical and mental condition: fatigue, illness, alcohol consumption, medicaments and the influence of drugs are irresponsible as you can no longer use the device safely.
• Only clean the fireplace when the device has cooled off completely.
• Do not wear clothing with long and / or loose sleeves when lighting or operating the device.
• Keep distant electronic cables from the hot surfaces of the fireplace and from strongly frequented areas.
• This device is not destined for operation by persons (including children) with limited physical, sensory or mental abilities and functions or persons with a lack of experience and / or knowledge unless supervised by another person being responsible for their safety or having been instructed by such a person on how to operate the device.

Fire has been attracting people for ages. However, this hot element was essential for survival in the past and today we enjoy its pleasant warmth, its cozy crackling and the unique and fascinating dance of the flames. höfats loves playing with fire and has now enlarged its product range by another accessory: SPIN is a fascinating whirl of flames in a decorative glass cylinder, bringing campfire atmosphere onto your balcony or terrace. As any other höfats product – awarded with numerous design prizes – SPIN enthuses with its first-class aesthetics and ingenious functionality.

The impressive dance of the flames is due to bioethanol burnt in a can. Simply place the can into the stainless steel footing and light it. Then put on the glass cylinder made of high-quality borosilicate glass and enjoy the luminous vortex of flames. Those who want to end this spectacle at an earlier point of time can simply put down the annexed extinguisher onto the glass cylinder and wait until the flames are completely extinct.

A ground spike with which SPIN can be easily pinched into the ground is also available. Just pinch the spike into your lawn, and SPIN will become the eye- catcher of any garden party and enchant your guests. Due to its elevation, SPIN also looks great on the ground.

Scope of delivery

Carefully remove SPIN from the packaging and check the content as to completeness or damages. In case any component is defect, we ask you to please not to use SPIN, but to contact your distributor. Please remove all packing material prior to assembly. höfats firegel is not included in the delivery.

Combustion gel

• For the use of SPIN, you must only use the höfats fire gel. You can use the höfats combustion gel bottle (art.-nr. 090801-6) and fill the fire gel into the refill cup. (art.-nr. 090901)
• The manufacturer accepts no liability for other combustibles.
• Never refill hot and / or warm cups or cans with combustible fire gel. The hot gel forms – together with air – a highly flammable, even explosive mixture.
• Never pour combustion gel directly into the fireplace, for otherwise the combustion gel can pour out and an uncontrolled fire can be caused.
• Do not use liquid bioethanol or other flammable liquids such as spirit or petroleum
• Always store the combustion gel securely closed in rooms where no open fire exists – bioethanol is a combustible which evaporates when open. With temperatures higher than 21° C (70° F), bioethanol – together with air – forms a highly flammable, even explosive mixture
• Completely and securely close used combustion gel cans (as far as not burnt out fully). The quality of open combustion gel can deteriorate when stored for a longer period and cannot be lit as easily as before
• Do not store more than 5 liters (1,3 gallons) of highly flammable liquids in your home. Observe national and regional regulations, rules, laws and other legally binding requirements of your place of residence regarding the storage and handling of highly flammable liquids. The requirements may vary depending on your location.

Instructions as to room size

• When operating SPIN in closed rooms, always make sure that there is sufficient ventilation
• Combustion gel is mixed with thickening agents and thus does not burn completely odorless and residue-free. The air gets moister and is consumed faster
• Therefore, no other fire must be lit in the same room except for SPIN
• In order to prevent dangerous carbon dioxide concentrations when operating SPIN in closed rooms, the following minimum room volume must be observed.

Instructions as to location

• Please observe the respective, current local and national regulations concerning the location of bioethanol fireplaces
• Place SPIN on a solid, even and non-slip underground. Please ensure that the table or floor on which you place the device can support the weight (for weight see Technical Data, point 7)
• Pay attention to a safety distance of 0,6 m (23,6″) to flammable materials such as home textiles, upholstered furniture, shelves or wardrobes Pay special attention to curtains and lamps in the immediate surroundings of SPIN. A safety distance of at least 0,6 meter (23,6″) to the room ceiling should be observed
• Do not operate SPIN under conditions of strong draught or wind. Only place SPIN in an area protected against cross ventilation.
• Do not operate SPIN under conditions of rain

Indoor and outdoor operating instructions

In combination with the increasing element or ground spike, SPIN must only be operated outdoors. Without additional accessories (increasing element or ground spike), SPIN can also be used in well-ventilated rooms.

Description of safety instructions on the product

Operation

• SPIN is a decorative fireplace for private use indoors and outdoors
• SPIN must not be used for heating purposes
• Remove all packaging materials prior to operation.
• Check the safety container (main body that screws onto the stand) and refill can for leaks and other damage before each use. If any damage to these components is visible, the use of SPIN is expressly prohibited, safe operation cannot be guaranteed.
• Defective or damaged parts may only be replaced with original höfats spare parts. If non-original höfats spare parts are used, safe operation of the fireplace cannot be guaranteed and is therefore expressly prohibited.
• Before each use, check whether there is fuel in the safety container. If there is fuel in the safety container, it must be removed before use to ensure safe operation.

Assembly

Prior to every use, check SPIN as to damages. Screw the threaded pin of the main unit onto the threads in the footing. When the main unit lies on the footing, one full turn has to be effected in order to establish the connection. You can place the glass cylinder next to SPIN before lighting the device.

Refill

Let the refill cup cool off before refilling it. Only fill the cup with höfats fire gel. We can only guarantee SPIN’s safe usage if you exclusively use höfats fire gel. Do not fill the cup beyond the lower edge of the opening. Never pour combustion gel directly into the fireplace, for otherwise the combustion gel can pour out and an uncontrolled fire can be caused. Therefore, always use the standard cans supplied

Lighting

When lighting the combustion gel, make sure to observe sufficient safety clearance. Therefore, only use a long-handled lighter or a long match.

ATTENTION: After lighting SPIN, the flames of the combustion gel are hardly visible.

Putting on the glass cylinder To make sure that the burning gel has been successfully ignited, set the glass cylinder onto the protruding pins of the main unit after approx. 2 min. Hold the glass cylinder in centered position. Always use fireproof gloves (e.g. barbecue gloves). As the height of the flames develops only gradually, no danger is given. In the beginning, some water vapor arises and the glass becomes foggy – however, this water vapor vanishes soon

During operation
Due to the chimney effect and the wings of SPIN, a high, beautiful and rotating flame is created.
The fireplace and above all the glass cylinder get extremely hot during operation so that every contact can cause severe burns.
For this reason, SPIN must not be moved during operation. Any movement can moreover cause the combustion gel to be spilt and thus lead to an uncontrolled fire.

Do not pour water over SPIN during or immediately after operation. This can lead to damage of the product.

Extinguishing

Always keep the extinguishing lid near the device.
We generally recommend to let the can burn down completely until it is extinct.
Otherwise, put the lid onto the glass cylinder and wait until the flame is completely extinct. For extinguishing the flame, only use the lid supplied. Hold the lid at the small flap.

Attention: in the combustion chamber, small flames – which are not visible from the outside – can blaze for a long time. Even if the fire is completely extinct, the still hot can might infla-me refilled combustion gel.

Never extinguish the flame with water – this can lead to a steam explosion and cause se-vere burns.

Re-lighting

When the flames are extinct, let SPIN cool off completely before cleaning.
Take care that you never refill a hot or warm refill cup or can. The hot gel forms – together with air – a highly flammable, even explosive mixture.

If you nevertheless want to immediately relight SPIN, it is essential to observe the following points:

• The glass cylinder is extremely hot; always wear fireproof gloves (e.g. barbecue gloves) in order to remove the glass.
• In no case relight a hot refill cup; the hot bioethanol forms – together with air – a highly flammable, even explosive mixture.
• Remove the hot refill cup; always wear fireproof gloves (e.g. barbecue gloves).
• Carefully insert a new combustion gel can or a filled refill cup into SPIN. Observe the previous instructions “Lighting”, “Putting on the glass cylinder”, “During operation”, “Extinguishing”.

Maintenance, cleaning and storage

SPIN is made of high-quality materials. In order to clean and care the surfaces, please observe the following instructions:

When the flames are extinct, let SPIN cool off completely before cleaning.

The glass cylinder is made of high-quality borosilicate glass and can easily be cleaned with a soft cloth and some soap. Rinse thoroughly and remove all soap residues before drying the glass. Soap residues can increase the risk that soot particles set down on the glass.

For the main unit, neither strong or abrasive solvents nor scrub pads must be used. These would attack the surface and leave scrape marks.

A wet, soft cloth with a pH-neutral cleaning agent is sufficient in order to clean the main unit.

Always keep SPIN at a well-protected place and never expose SPIN to harsh weather conditions.
The stainless steel refill cup be conveniently cleaned in the dishwasher. We recommend using a washing program of min. 60°C.

SPIN on an increasing element

It is also possible to use SPIN with an increasing element. With this application, SPIN can be used in increased position on the ground. The increasing element is simply screwed between footing and main unit.

Important: a maximum of one increasing element is allowed. SPIN in increased position must only be operated outdoors.

SPIN on a ground spike

• You can also use SPIN in combination with a ground spike. This turns SPIN into an exciting fire display for your outdoor areas. Simply unscrew the main component from the stand and screw it onto the ground spike (without elevation mount). Please refer to the quick guide.
• The three-part ground spike makes SPIN a versatile garden torch. The different lengths of the three pole components (48 cm / 34 cm / 17 cm) can be used individually or in combination to create the following overall lengths: 99 cm, 82 cm, 65 cm, 48 cm, 34 cm, 17cm.
• When paired with the ground spike, SPIN is only suitable for outdoor use.
• It is essential to drive the ground spike deeply into the ground – we recommend driving the spear pint at least 25cm into the ground. Make sure that the ground spike is firm and stable. The insertion depth can vary depending on soil texture. If the soil is particularly soft & loose, you may not be able to safely insert the ground spike. If you cannot ensure that the ground spike will stand securely SPIN may not be used. Always maintain the necessary safety distances from flammable materials (see point 1.4)
• Alternatively, SPIN ground spike / SPIN torch can also be set up with the separately available stand (Ø 230 mm, Art. No. 0007). The base of the table variant (Ø 190 mm) is expressly not suitable for use with the ground spike / torch. When using the stand, it must be ensured that it is placed on a firm surface, such as a B. terrace floor or pavement is placed.

SPIN in hanger

SPIN can be transformed into a beautifully shaped hanging lantern with the help of the hanger. This allows SPIN to be suspended freely from a ceiling or similar. To do this, screw the main body, without the foot part, into the frame of the hanger. AN ELEVATION MUST NOT BE USED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Observe the brief instructions for SPIN hanging fire.

• SPIN can be adjusted to the desired height with the help of the continuously adjustable stainless steel cable. To do this, simply open the Allen screw on the clamping element. When retightening the screw, make sure that there is sufficient clamping force. The easiest way to do this is to pull on the lower end of the frame.
• Make sure that the stainless steel cable is not kinked, otherwise permanent deformation may occur.
• The height adjustment of SPIN hanging fire must always be done without the glass tube.
• To securely fasten SPIN hanging fire, use the screw with dowel included in the scope of delivery. SPIN hanging fire may only be fixed to solid concrete ceilings or solid wood, this is the only way to ensure sufficient strength of the screw. The screw must withstand a tensile force of min. 60 kg. If in doubt, consult an appropriate specialist for installation.
• Fastening to a concrete substrate: For secure fastening to a concrete substrate, pre-drill at the intended location with Ø 10 x 60 mm. Use the dowel included in the scope of delivery to fasten the screw.
• Fastening to a wooden base: For secure fastening to a solid wooden base, pre-drill with Ø 4 x 60 mm at the intended location.
• The hanging fire can be unhooked from the bracket and/or the ceiling screw. Only move the hanging fire when it is cold, at room temperature.
• When attaching the fastening hoe, make sure that there is sufficient safety distance to flammable, easily combustible materials. A safety distance of min. 60 cm in all directions must be ensured.
• SPIN hanging fire must only be done when cold, never move the product when hot. The glass tube must always be removed when hanging and suspending, the glass tube could fall down and break.
• SPIN hanging fire may only be installed in wind-protected locations to prevent uncontrolled swinging of SPIN. Depending on the length of the steel cable, the pendulum swing can be very large.
• When operating SPIN hanging fire, always ensure that no pendulum movement occurs. If a pendulum movement should occur, SPIN hanging fire must be returned to the rest position as quickly as possible. Always use heat-resistant gloves, there is a risk of burns from hot components.
• Make sure that all components are securely fastened before ignition and commissioning. The wing body must be firmly screwed onto the bracket.

Warranty

All höfats products undergo – from their conception to their series production – many phases of planning and testing. In manufacturing and assembly, only high-quality materials as well as most modern methods as regards quality control and assurance are applied. Only thus we can make sure that höfats customers get the quality expected and can take pleasure in our products for years. In case one article should – contrary to expectations – not meet these requirements, the following warranty periods are applicable:

2 years

Precondition therefore is that the article was assembled and used according to the instructions annexed. höfats reserves the right to demand a proof of purchase (Please keep the original proof of purchase or the original invoice in a safe place).

The warranty is valid only upon presentation of the proof of purchase consisting of original invoice or sales slip indicating the date of purchase, dealer’s name, model and serial no. of the product. Company reserves the right to refuse warranty if this information has been removed or changed after the original purchase of the product. The limited warranty is only applicable for repair works or replacement of integral parts that prove to be defective under normal conditions of use. If höfats confirms the defective condition and accepts the reclamation, höfats will either repair the defective part(s) free of charge or replace it / them. In case you have to send in a defective part, the shipping fees to höfats have to be paid in advance so that höfats can return the repaired resp. new part to you free of charge. The Warranty is not applicable when the defect is caused by improper use as determined by the company personnel.” The Warranty is not applicable when there is modification or alteration of any nature made to the electrical circuitry or any part that is physically constructing or surrounding the set.

This limited warranty does not cover malfunction or operating difficulties due to accident, misusage, modification, misapplication, force majeure, willful damage, false assembly resp. maintenance or false service. Moreover, this warranty becomes void in case normal maintenance and cleaning works are not carried out regularly. Any deterioration of condition or damage due to extreme weather conditions such as hail, earthquakes or hurricanes as well as changes in color due to direct sunlight or contact with chemicals is also not covered by this warranty. Applicable and implied warranties as to marketability and suitability are restricted to the periods explicitly stated in this warranty. In some judicial districts, such restrictions as to warranty periods of an implied warranty are not permitted so that these restrictions as to validity might not affect you. However, höfats does not assume liability for any particular, indirect or consequential damage. In some judicial districts, an exclusion or restriction regarding collateral or consequential damage is not permissible. In such case, this restriction or exclusion might not apply to you.

No liability can be assumed for damages caused by the use and operation of höfats products as regards third-party products in case of improper handling, assembly or – for example – mishaps.
höfats does not entitle any persons or companies to assume any liabilities or warranties in the company’s name as regards the sale, assembly, use, deconstruction, return or operation of its products. Such representations are not binding for höfats.

Disposal

Your new device has been protected by its packaging on the way to you. All materials used are environmentally compatible and recyclable. Please assist in disposing the materials in an environment-friendly way. Both your distributor and your local disposal facility will inform you about environment-friendly disposal channels.

Do not hand over packaging material and parts thereof to children.
Risk of suffocation due to foils and other packaging material.

Old devices are no worthless waste. By means of an environment-friendly disposal, valuable raw materials can be regained. Find out with your municipal or local administrations about possibilities of an environmentally compatible and proper disposal of your old device.

Combustion gel and combustion gel remains must not be disposed by wastewater.

Dispose of the empty and used combustion gel cans at your local special waste collection point (recycling center).
