JEGS 4L60E Torque Converter Conversion Kit
Introduction
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for purchasing this JEGS 4L60E. 4L65E, and 4L70E Torque Converter Conversion Kit. We welcome any comments or feedback you might have. If you have any questions about this product or about the installation procedure, please feel free to contact us at 1.800.345.4545. This kit is designed to address:
- Slippage and heat build-up from the converter not staying fully charged under load once the lock-up clutch function has been eliminated.
NOTE
FOR USE WITH NON-LOCKUP CONVERTERS ONLY. COMPUTER MUST BE REFLASHED FOR NON-
LOCKUP USE. (Reflash removes computer request for non-lockup “ON”.)
Installation
Input Shaft
-
With a small flat punch and hammer, remove the orifice capsule by hitting the high spot on the capsule shown on the diagram below. This will expand the capsule and allow you to remove it with needle nose pliers.
The new valve system corrects converter flow to the primary pump area so the converter will stay full under high load and RPM. This new valve system does not require any pump machining, cross drilling or any modification to the pump or support. It does not require a solenoid but you can re-install it if you wish. Always install a cooler for best results. Not Recommended for working trucks, vans, suburbans, or towing. A non-lock-up converter increases transmission temperature which can lead to overheating. -
Remove and discard original Lock-up valve and springs. Install NEW Conversion Valve, Pin and Slug as shown. RE-INSTALL THE ORIGINAL WASHER AND RETAINER.
NOTE: If the snap ring groove is obscured by the washer preventing the retainer from fitting, try the following. Grind the end of the new pin, in small amounts, until the retainer just fits into the groove.
Valve Body
-
Remove and discard the converter regulator valve, spring, and isolator valve. Save the end plug and clip.
The new Iso-Conv Valve replaces all 0.442 in. diameter Iso-Conv valves. Check you valve’s diameter. This valve does not fit oversized valve bores. Your original valve must be 0.442 in. diameter. -
Install plain spacer spring and Iso-Conv valve.
