hp LaserJet Pro 4001-4004 Series Printer

HP LaserJet Pro 4001-4004 series printers (Standard SKU) enable onboarding to HP Cloud services as part of the setup process to deliver value-added features and services, like management via the HP Smart Admin Dashboard, printing from mobile devices via HP Smart, and the optional HP Instant Ink supplies service. This quick reference is provided for customers who prefer to opt-out of cloud onboarding during setup.

IMPORTANT: If the device has already been set up and assistance is needed to off-board the device from its pairing with an HP account, please contact HP Support.

Opt-out of cloud onboarding

Follow these steps to opt-out of cloud onboarding during printer setup.

  1.  When the printer is powered on, the following text will display on the control panel: hpsmart.com/setup.
NOTE: To setup the HP LaserJet Pro 4001-4004 series printers without onboarding the device to HP Cloud services, we recommend NOT browsing to hpsmart.com/setup. This website is intended to deliver HP Easy Start for a software-assisted setup experience. Opting out of cloud onboarding from within HP Easy Start is not covered in this guide, so we recommend using the provided steps to opt-out using the printer control panel.

  2. On the printer control panel, press the Right arrow button .

  3. When the Languages menu displays, use the arrow button to select the desired language, and then press the OK button.

  4. When the Country/Region menu displays, use the arrow buttons to select your country/region, and then press the OK button.

  5. When “hpsmart.com/setup” displays again, press the Cancel button two (2) times to bypass that message.

  6. When the “Genuine HP Cartridges are installed” message displays, press the OK button. The printer will proceed to a Ready state.

  7. At this stage you can configure the device for connectivity via Ethernet or USB, and install a driver as with previous generation HP LaserJet Pro printers. To configure the device for Wi-Fi connectivity without using HP Easy Start, HP recommends temporarily connecting via Ethernet and then browsing to the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to configure Wi-Fi.

NOTE: For information on how to select the correct printer driver, refer to the following document on HP’s support website: HP LaserJet, HP OfficeJet Enterprise, HP PageWide Enterprise, HP Managed – How to select the correct printer driver

Sign in to the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

As with HP predecessor products, the Embedded Web Server (EWS) can be accessed by typing the printer’s IP address into a web browser.

When signing in to the EWS to perform configuration changes, you will be prompted to “Log in with PIN.” Figure 2 “Log in with PIN” dialog in the EWS
