DIGITAL YACHT 4GXtream Long Range WiFi Kit
Addendum for 4GXtream Manual
The 4GXtream’s Long Range WiFi Kit comprises of the following parts;
- 1x High Gain external 2.4GHz/5GHz Wi-Fi antenna
- 1x Antenna Mount
- 1x 10m LMR400 Cable Assembly
- 1x 6” SMA to N-Type Pigtail Cable
- User Manual
The 4GXtream Long Range WiFi kit allows you to connect your 4GXtream directly
to a public WiFi hotspot such as those operated by most marinas. If you are on
a roaming/limited 4G data plan or in a location where there is poor 4G
coverage, this kit gives you another useful method of connecting to the
internet.
Most hotspots use the standard 2.4GHz wireless frequency range, but some
marinas are now starting to install the newer 5GHz wireless networks and if
available these are the best hotspot to connect to, as they are faster and
less congested. This 4GXtream WiFi kit supports both operating frequencies.
Installation and siting of the external WiFi antenna is important for maximum
range, and ideally wants to be above head height and in clear air, with no
nearby metallic obstructions. Height is not so critical as for VHF antennas
and we do not recommend fitting it at the top of the mast. The external WiFi
antenna has a 1.25” Pipe Thread and is supplied with a mount that is designed
for securing to a horizontal platform. The mount is good for many
installations, but should you wish to use another type of mount such as those
designed for VHF/GPS antennas, then you will need a 1” x 14TPI to 1.25” Pipe
Thread adaptor, which are available from Digital Yacht.
The 10m LMR400 cable should not be extended and must be connected to the
4GXtream, via the 6” SMA to N-Type pigtail cable, which also provides
important mechanical strain relief on the small SMA connector. The high gain,
external WiFi antenna can be connected to either of the two Wi-Fi antenna
connections on the rear of the 4GXtream. Unscrew one of the internal WiFi
antennas, leaving the other connected as normal, and screw in the 6” pigtail
cable.
Once the external WiFi antenna is mounted and connected to the 4GXtream, power
the system up and wirelessly connect a mobile device to the 4GXtream.
Now bring up the web interface by going to http://192.168.1.1 or
http://4gxtream.lan , login and follow the steps in our instructional video
on how to connect the 4GXtream to a wireless hotspot.

Even when you are not using the long range WiFi antenna to connect to a
wireless hotspot, the antenna significantly improve the 4GXtream’s own
wireless network signals around the boat, particularly when outside or off the
boat.
Antenna installation is now complete.
