DESCRIPTION

The presence detector Dual Tech 360° (slave) integrates advanced Passive Infrared Technology (PIR) and Ultrasonic (US) Technology in one single device. Combining these technologies prevents false triggering, even in difficult applications. The presence detector is suitable for indoor use, e.g. in open- plan offices, public toilets, conference rooms, underground car parks, classrooms, and libraries.

INSTALLATION

2.1. Connection
Danger: Disconnect all power before installing the presence detector. Do not connect the device to the mains voltage until the installation has been completed.
Refer to the wiring diagram (fig. 1).

2.2. Mounting
Tip: Do not install the presence detector in the vicinity of heat sources such as stoves or electric heaters, air currents (ventilation systems), or moving objects. Also, avoid reflective surfaces such as large windows or glass partition walls (fig. 2). This can activate the device unnecessarily because the device reacts to movement and heat in its environment.
Tip: Ideally, the presence detector should be mounted onto the ceiling. If the device is mounted below ceiling level, the ultrasonic detection range will be reduced.
Tip: The recommended mounting height is 2 to 3 m. The presence detector performs optimally when mounted at a height of 2.5 m.

The presence detector is suitable for:

  • flush mounting with a standard flush-mounting box, or
  • surface mounting using the surface-mounting base. When using the surface-mounting base, you can use any of the seven pairs of fixing holes with various distances from 41 to 85 mm.

SETTINGS

The presence detector can be used with standard factory settings (see section 3.1.) or you can modify the settings (see section 3.2.) using the potentiometers on the device.

3.1. Factory settings
At delivery the parameters of the presence detector Dual Tech 360° (slave) are set as follows:

Potentiometer Function
Setting the detection range. There are four preset values:

– – (minimum setting): ± 2 x 3 m
– ± 4 x 6 m
– ± 7 x 8 m
– + (maximum setting): ± 10 x 16 m
| Setting the desired detection method. There are four preset values:
– PIR/US
– PIR only
– US only
– PIR+US
| Activating or deactivating the air flow sensor.

3.3. Detection method
The presence detector includes two LEDs:

  • red LED: on when the PIR sensor detects motion.
  • green LED: on when the ultrasonic sensor detects motion.
Detection method Application Function
PIR US Detection of minor movements in rooms with small obstacles (furniture,

partition walls) or rooms that are divided into several smaller areas, such as public toilets or offices where partition walls are used.| – The lighting is switched on whenever the MR sensor or ultrasonic sensor detects motion.
0,11, US| – The lighting is switched on whenever the ultrasonic sensor detects motion.
| Detection in rooms with no obstacles, rooms with plenty of airflows, or when the detection range is very specific, such as in small office spaces with air- conditioning units or small conference rooms.| – The lighting is switched on whenever the FIR sensor detects motion.
PIR+US| Detection of minor movements in classrooms, open plan offices, etc. This method also prevents false triggering.| – The lighting is switched on when both the PIR sensor and the ultrasonic sensor detect motion.
– If only one of both sensors detects motion, the lighting will remain on.

3.4. Detection range
The detection range of an ultrasonic sensor is oval in shape and covers 8 x 10 m for minor movements (e.g. hands waving) and 10 x 16 m for major movements (e.g. walking). The detection angle is 360° for both PIR and ultrasonic sensors. (fig. 4)
The direction of the ultrasonic sensor should aim at the main detection area to achieve the best detection coverage.
The detection area can be increased by using a slave in combination with a presence detector Dual Tech 360° (master) (350-20065). A maximum of ten slaves can be connected to one master. The lighting is operated in accordance with the settings. Both the master and the slave have the same detection range.
When covering a large area using several presence detectors, it is recommended to take into account an overlap of approximately 20% in the ultrasonic detection range (fig. 5).
If you would like to exclude motion detection in a portion of the detection area or if the detection area is too large, cover the sensor lens using the cover cap supplied. This allows the maximum range to be reduced from 8 m to 6 m or 3 m. The 360° detection angle can be reduced in steps by 30° (fig. 6).

OPERATION AND USE

4.1. Activating the system
After connecting to the mains voltage, the presence detector requires approximately 30 seconds of warmup time (stabilization). During the warm-up time, the lighting is switched on. After the warm-up time, the device will operate according to the factory settings.

4.2. General operation
The integrated light sensor continuously measures the daylight level in the detection area (360°) and compares this level to the preset lux value. Thanks to the light sensor, the light switches on automatically only if the detector detects motion within the detection range and if the daylight level falls below the preset lux value:

  • The lighting remains switched on as long as motion is detected.
  • After the last motion is detected, the lighting remains switched on for the duration of the preset switch-off delay (1 to 30 minutes). As soon as the switch-off delay has elapsed, the lighting switches off.
  • The lighting switches off automatically as soon the preset daylight level has been reached.

MAINTENANCE

Dirt may prevent the presence detector from functioning properly. Therefore, always keep the lens clean and dry. Use a damp cloth and water with some detergent to clean the lens. Never exert pressure to wipe the lens clean. If the lens or other parts of the presence detector are defective, please contact an authorized installer.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Problem Ca use Action
The lighting is not switched on. Incorrect wiring. Refer to the wiring

diagram and check if the lighting is working.
The ambient light level is too high.| Check the set lux value and adjust if necessary (higher value).
The lighting is not switched off.| The switch-off delay is too long.| Check the switch-off delay and adjust if necessary (lower value).
Detector has false triggering.| Check for any objects in the room that may cause false triggering and remove them from the detection area.
Incorrect wiring.| Check the wiring diagram.
The red LED does not turn on.| PIR is not selected as the detection method.| Select PIR as the detection method.
The movement is outside the detection range of the PIR sensor.| The movement should be within the detection range (8 m).
A cover cap is used so that there is no detection on the place of the movement.| Remove or reposition the cover cap.
The green LED does not turn on.| US is not selected as the detection method.| Select US as the detection method.
The movement is outside the detection range of the ultrasonic sensor.| The movement should be within the detection range (10 x 16 m).
False triggering| The following elements may affect the proper functioning of the ultrasonic sensor and may cause false triggering:
– air flows
sound-absorbing materials. carpet, curtains, …
– heat sources
– reflective objects
– objects subject to wind
– wiring (reverse wiring between N and L will cause reduced sensitivity of the ultrasonic sensor sensitivity and will limit the detection area)| – Activate the potentiometer for light sensitivity (OM. This will reduce the sensitivity of the ultrasonic sensor by ± 10 to 40%, depending on the severity of the airflow.
– Avoid aiming the detector toward any heat sources. such as air conditioning. electric fans, heaters, or reflective surfaces.
– Make sure there are no objects within the detection range that are subject to wind.
– Check the wiring diagram.
