INTRODUCTION

Congratulations on the purchase of your Outdoorbox (model 12.35 AV, 12.50 AV or 12.70 AV).
The Outdoorbox (hereafter ODB) has been specially developed as portable energy source for recreation, watersports and angling and is well suited for outdoor use and wet  conditions.
The ODB comes with an integrated li-ion battery-pack with battery management system (BMS), silicone wiring with automated thermal fuses, digital charge status indicator,  blue ANEN connector, 12V cigarette plug connector. Also included: a separate USB charger and extra blue ANEN connector.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND WARNINGS

Your ODB has been engineered with a safe and long user life in mind. It is important to thoroughly review this instruction and follow the safety precautions. Not doing so  may invalidate the warranty and result in the malfunctioning of your ODB and further damage.

  • Your ODB has been designed as a power source for recreation, watersports (including electric boating) and angling but is explicitly NOT suitable to use as starter battery for internal combustion engines (like in cars and outboards).

  • Only use the blue ANEN connector to connect your trolling engine to the ODB.
NEVER connect your trolling engine to the 12V socket, it is not suitable!

  • The ODB is waterproof according to the IP65 standard and is thus suitable for use in rainy conditions. Please ensure that the ODB is completely closed and there is no  dirt in between the top and bottom parts of the ODB. Also ensure that the 12V power socket is never fully immersed in water! This socket is splash waterproof if fully  closed but cannot be fully immersed in water.

  • When used outside the permitted standards (e.g. high load) your ODB will automatically turn of. No power will be available until the ODB can operate within standards.

  • Avoid damaging the ODB by dropping it. In case of external damage do not use your ODB but have Rebelcell check for proper and safe operation.

  • Place the ODB in the coolest environment possible. Do not expose the ODB to sources of direct heat such as (open) ire, heating or exposure to direct sunlight for  extended periods of time. Long- term use in high temperatures (> 40° C) has a negative inluence on service life.
At a temperature of 55° C the ODB will shut down until a normal operating temperature is reached.

  • The ODB is classiied as dangerous goods for transportation purposes (ADR Class 9). Review the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) on our website for more information.

  • The battery-pack (including wires and fuses) is situated below the coverplate in the ODB.
Never remove the coverplate! This can be dangerous and will automatically void the warranty.

INSTALLATION AND USE

  • Trolling engine: connect the 2 silver-colored pins (by soldering or crimping with a AMP crimping tool) to the trolling engine cables and click into place in the blue  ANEN plug. You can now easily connect your trolling engine to the blue connector on the ODB.
  • Depth sounder: connect your depth sounder with a cigarette lighter plug to the 12V socket (like with the Quick Connect FF ODB cable)
  • USB-equipment: connect the USB-charger (included) to the 12V socket to charge your smartphone or tablet.
Other 12V equipment can be connected to the 12V socket (when discharge current is less than 10A) or ANEN connector (when dicharge current is more than 10A and less than 50A).

GUIDELINES FOR USE

Use with a trolling engine
The ODB can handle a continuous load of 50A. As the ODB voltage remains nearly constant during use (unlike a lead battery) you will notice that thrust also remains high  and constant. This will allow you to use your trolling engine in a lower gear which can signiicantly increase the runtime of your e-motor. As the battery capacity indicator on  your e-motor has been programmed for lead batteries it is not reliable.
Charging
We recommend using a matching 12.6V Rebelcell charger with blue ANEN connector. If you use a diferent charger the warranty is void if damage occurs. Using unsuitable  chargers can damage your ODB and can be dangerous! You can top-up or partly charge your ODB whenever you so desire, there is no so-called ‘memory efect’. The batteries  cannot be charged at temperatures of 0°C and lower. It is possible to charge the ODB with a solar panel. A suitable solar charge controller is required, more  information can be found on our website.
Rebelcell charger for ODB
Read the warnings on the charger sticker before use and follow the instructions!
Step 1 connect the battery charger to the ODB by clicking the two blue connectors together.
Step 2 connect the battery charger power cord to the AC-outlet.
Step 3 set the power switch (if applicable) to “on” and the charging process will start.
The status of the charging process is indicated through LED’s on the charger. Unplug the power cord before disconnecting the charging cables from the ODB.
State of charge indicator
Your ODB comes equipped with a digital state of charge indicator. By softly pressing the power button the indicator is activated and battery % and voltage are shown. The  indicator is switched of if you hold the power button for a few seconds. To prevent accidental discharge please leave it in the ‘of’ position when not using the ODB.
Water
The ODB is splash-waterproof according to the IP65 standard and can be used in rainy conditions (see remarks at the Safety precautions and Warnings section). Please note:  if you connect equipment to the 12V socket water may penetrate the ODB during rain and this can lead to damage. Damage caused by water ingress via an open 12V socket  is excluded from warranty.
Discharging
Fully discharging your ODB is not harmful. The ODB is protected by an advanced integrated BMS (battery management system). Charge the ODB as soon as possible after  a full discharge; due to low self-discharge (~ 2% per month) voltage may drop below critical levels and damage the ODB irreversibly. When the ODB is not in use turn of the  power switch to prevent the ODB being discharged by the charge status indicator in standby mode, If the ODB is not used for a longer period, we recommend charging  to 50% for optimum service life.

Safety

The ODB features double protection by thermal automatic fuses (10A for the 12V socket and 50A for the ANEN connector) and the BMS in the battery-pack. The fuses will  automatically activate when currents are too high and will reset automatically. Is is therefore not required to replace or reset fuses.
The BMS protects the ODB battery pack and contributes towards a long service life. Functions of the BMS are protection against deep discharge, overcharge, too high or  too  low temperatures,  high currents and cell balancing. When certain safety thresholds are exceeded, the battery pack will shutdown as a precaution and will turn itself on  when it operates within speciication. If this does not happen automatically you need to disconnect your trolling engine and any other equipment to reset the BMS. After a few  minutes you can reconnect your equipment. The activation of the BMS may seem like a failure, but it is not. If it occurs repeatedly this can indicate a malfunction of a component in your electrical system or overheating of the battery pack. If this happens contact your installer to avoid injury or damage.

Warranty

Your ODB has a standard 2 year warranty from date of purchase. Other components (e.g. charger, accessories) carry a 1 year warranty. Refer to our general terms and  conditions for detailed warranty conditions. Please retain and store your purchase receipt, as it is required for warranty claims.
