INTRODUCTION

Thank you for purchasing a 2.5 “Portable Hard Drive from Silicon Power. This manual introduces the correct operating sequence and precautions for the products. In order to guarantee the best performance of the products, please read this manual carefully before using the products and keep this user manual for future reference.

DRIVER INSTALLATION

No drivers are required. Plug the 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive into an available USB port and your computer will automatically detect it.

CONNECTING A COMPUTER

If you want to use the 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive to back up your computer’s hard drive or transfer data, you will need to connect it to an available USB port on your computer with the provided USB cable.

  1. Plug one of the ends of the USB cable into the USB port of the Portable Hard Drive. And plug the other end of the USB cable into an available USB port on your desktop or notebook computer.

The warranty card is printed on the 2.5″ PORTABLE HARD DRIVE User Manual. Please fill in the required information when sending the PORTABLE HARD DRIVE back.

  • Notes for repairing, transferring, and discarding formatting a disk do not erase the data on the Data is not erased completely after you delete the data or format the disk. For avoiding the leakage of data when repairing, transferring, and discarding.

Does the 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive support the TRIM command?

The 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive does not support the TRIM command.

Does the 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive support the S.M.A.R.T command?

The 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive does not support the S.M.A.R.T command because it is an external hard drive and it is not compatible with the internal hard drive of a computer, so it cannot monitor the internal hard drive’s status and provide information about it to a computer system. The 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive is not compatible with Mac OS X systems, please use a PC to format this hard drive before using it on your Mac computer to avoid data loss or corruption during file transfer/backup process.

Can I use this 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive on both Windows and Mac computers?

Yes, you can use this 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive on both Windows and Mac computers without any problems as long as your computer has an available USB port for connection to the portable hard drive and you can install the driver on your computer if necessary (please refer to “Driver Installation” section).

How do I format this 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive?

You can format this 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive by right-clicking on its icon in My Computer or Computer and choosing Format from the pop-up menu that appears or from within Windows Explorer by right-clicking on its icon and choosing Format from the pop-up menu that appears or by going into Computer Management

Disk Management in Windows 7 or 8, right-clicking on its icon and choosing Format from the pop-up menu that appears (see image below). Please note that formatting will erase all data on this portable hard drive so please back up any files you want to keep before formatting this portable hard drive!

Can I use this 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive as a bootable device?

Yes, you can use this 2.5″ Portable Hard Drive as a bootable device if you have a computer with an available USB port for connection to the portable hard drive and you can install driver software for it if necessary (please refer to “Driver Installation” section). However, please note that we don’t recommend using external devices such as USB flash drives or external hard drives as bootable devices because they are more likely than internal devices such as internal hard drives to fail due to power fluctuations during startup which may cause damage to your operating system’s boot files or even cause your computer to fail to start up! If you want to use an external device as a bootable device, we highly recommend using an internal hard drive instead of an external one! If you must use an external device such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive as a bootable
