What is chenille

  • Chenille fabric is made from irregular fuzzy yarns through weaving, giving the fabric a smooth and soft surface.
  • Chenille reflects light in a characteristic way, which may make the colour appear as if it changes.
  • Pressmarks or folding marks that may appear on the fabric usually disappear after some time.
  • Small fibres may appear on the fabric. It happens naturally and they disappear over time and can also be removed with a garment roll.

How to care for chenille

  • To make sure that the fabric maintains its look and feel, it needs to be cared for regularly according to the care instructions included with the product.
  • Remove dust with a lint remover.
  • Pressmarks or folding marks can be removed by gently stroke with your hand in the direction of the pile or use a soft clothes brush. You can also use the vacuum cleaner with the soft nozzle.
  • Light stains can be removed with a sponge damped in water or a mild soapy solution.
  • Wet marks should always be dried off as soon as possible to stop moisture penetration.
  • Use a steamer to restore the fabric or use the steam function on an iron without pressing directly onto the fabric.
  • For removable covers: iron the chenille cover on the reverse side at low temperature (110°C) before putting it on your sofa for the first time.
  • Do not iron the cover on the side with pile since it can damage the pile.

For sofas and armchairs which have cushions with removable covers, but where another fabric is sewn to the edge, it is not recommended to wash the covers since the cover’s colour may appear different on different parts of the sofa.
