Cuisinart Espresso-Cappuccino-Latte Machine

BEFORE FIRST USE

  1. Remove lid from water reservoir. Lift off base and fill with fresh, cold water. Replace reservoir and lid. Using tracks as a guide, slide back into position and push down firmly.
  2. Ensure plug is inserted into back of unit, then insert plug into power outlet and turn switch to ON position. The LCD will illuminate and show PREHEATING. Once complete, the screen will say, READY, PLEASE SELECT
  3. Place a mug on drip tray, then press once, without a capsule inserted, to run a rinse cycle.
  4. The machine is now ready to use.

MAKING SINGLE OR DOUBLE ESPRESSO

  1. Use lever to open brew head.

  2. Insert an espresso capsule and close brew head

  3. Place cup on the tray
    NOTE: Top level of tray can be removed to accommodate a larger mug

  4. Press once for single espresso and twice for double espresso.

STEAMING/FROTHING MILK

  1. Remove milk tank with cover by pulling it away from machine. Remove cover and fill tank with milk.

  2. Replace cover. Align tank to the connection on the side of the machine and push to install. Place mug on drip tray.

  3. Press once for cappuccino or twice for latte; milk will automatically dispense. To manually dispense milk, press MENU and navigate to STEAM MILK option. Select GO, then START; milk will start to dispense momentarily. Select STOP when desired amount is achieved.
    NOTE: Max time to steam milk = 45 seconds

INDICATIONS THAT IT IS TIME TO DESCALE:

  • Longer brewing times
  • Excessive steaming
  • Lower coffee temperature
  • Brews less than a full cup

DESCALING

  1. Place a 20 oz. cup or container on the cup tray

  2. Fill the water tank with 8 oz. of water and 8 oz. vinegar.
    NOTE: You can also use a commercial descaling solution.

  3. Press twice to run solution through unit. Continue to initiate brew cycle until the water reservoir is empty.

  4. Fill the water tank with bottled or filtered water (no vinegar) and repeat through step 3 twice to clean the unit.

SETTING PREFERENCES

  1. Press MENU button to adjust your brew strength, brew temperature, milk volume, and standby time. Full programming instructions on page 7

  2. Default settings:
    Espresso: 40 ml
    Double Espresso: 90 ml
    Cappuccino: 40 ml espresso, 22 seconds milk Latte: 40 ml espresso, 32 seconds milk
    Brew Temperature: 200˚F
    Standby Time: 30 minute

MAKING CAPPUCCINO OR LATTE

  1. Check to make sure there is a capsule in the brew head and milk in the milk tank

  2. Place cup on the tray.
    NOTE: Top level of tray can be removed to accommodate a larger mug.

  3. Press once for cappuccino or twice for latte

ENERGY SAVE AND AUTO-OFF
After 30 minutes, machine switches to sleep mode. Open and close the brew head, or switch unit off and on again to start preheat mode. The LCD will say READY, PLEASE SELECT when preheat is complete.

USED-CAPSULE CONTAINER
The used-capsule container holds approximately 12 capsules and also contains some residual liquid left after brewing. Be sure to empty the container of used capsules periodically. Wash the container by hand in warm, soapy water.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Problem: Machine does not have power.
Solution:

  • Make sure the cord is securely plugged into the unit and outlet.
  • Reset your home’s circuit breaker.
  • Confirm the power has been turned on and the controls and LCD are illuminated

Problem: Machine will not brew. Solution:

  • Turn off and unplug the machine for 30 seconds or more. When you plug the machine back in, be sure to turn the power back on.
  • Make sure there is water in the reservoir.
  • Make sure the reservoir is properly installed.
  • Make sure brew head is completely closed.

Problem: Chlorine or mineral taste in coffee. |
Solution:

  • Consider using bottled or filtered water

Problem: Doesn’t brew a full cup.
Solution:

  • Turn off and unplug the machine for 30 seconds or more. When you plug the machine back in, be sure to turn the power back on.
  • Decalcify the machine (refer to page 9 of instruction manual).

Problem: The used capsule will not fall into the capsule container.
Solution

  • Check to see if the capsule container is full. Empty the capsule container and then try again. (You may need to manually remove the used capsule from the brew head

Problem: I want to reset the espresso/ cappuccino/latte programming.
Solution:

  • See page 7 of instruction manual for instructions.

Problem: Machine turned off.
Solution:

  • The machine’s energy-saving mode puts unit to sleep after 30 minutes of nonuse. Simply lift the brew head lever up or select any button to “wake up” your unit.

Problem: Espresso is too hot, or not hot enough.
Solution:

  • See page 7 for setting your brew temperature.
  • Heat your cup prior to use by filling with hot tap water. Let it rest for 10 seconds and then empty prior to making coffee.

Problem: Milk does not froth.

  • First, try removing silver pin from top of frothing mechanism. Wipe or rinse pin and replace in unit.
  • If problem still persists, clean the steam/frothing wand. See page 9 of instruction manual for instructions.

Problem: The indicator light will illuminate, but espresso does not flow.
Solution

  • The espresso dispensing nozzle is clogged. The loaded espresso capsule can be damaged. Wait for a short period of time before opening the lever and then try with a new capsule.

Problem: Produced little or no crema.
Solution:

  • Coffee has natural-occurring oils which may clog the espresso nozzle. To clean, regularly run a brew cycle with water only.

Problem: The water does not flow through theespresso  dispensing nozzle.
Solution:

Problem: The brew button flashes for a long time. When is the espresso machine ready for use?
Solution:

  • The espresso machine takes approximately 2.5 minutes to heat up.
