FAQs

General questions about using the vacuum:

How do I assemble my vacuum?

1. Insert the wand into the pod.

2. Insert the handle into the wand.
3. Connect the hose into the back of the pod, until it clicks into place.

For proper operation, ensure all parts are firmly clicked into place.

How do I use the different cleaning modes?

This Shark vacuum has two powerful settings for cleaning.
To clean bare floors or with accessories:
– Press the power/surface selector switch to setting (I) Hard Floor.
– Tilt the handle back while gently stepping on the floor nozzle. Note that the brushroll will spin slower in this mode.
Note : Use setting I for easier maneuverability on area rugs.
To clean carpets:
– Press the power/surface selector switch to setting (II) Carpet.
– Tilt the handle back while gently stepping on the floor nozzle. Note that the brushroll will spin in faster this mode.
Note : Move the suction control slider on the handle to MIN to reduce suction when vacuuming carpets. Slide to MAX for more suction on bare floors.

How do I clean above floors with or without accessories?

Press the handle release button on the back of the handle. Gently pull up on the handle to remove it from the wand.
For more cleaning reach, leave the handle on the wand, and detach the wand from the floor nozzle. Press the Wand Release button on the top of the pod, then gently pull up on the handle to remove the wand.
Attach an accessory to the handle or the wand and begin cleaning.

How and when do I adjust the suction?

The settings on the suction control slider on the handle adjusts suction power.
Note : Ensure the power/surface switch is set to the correct floor type before adjusting suction power.
For low pile carpets, set the suction control slider to MAX for best results.
For high-pile carpets or area rugs, set the suction control slider to MIN. Using less suction will improve maneuverability and make it easier to push and pull the vacuum.
For hard floors, set the suction slider to the MAX setting.

How do I detach the pod for portable cleaning?

To clean floors in Lift-Away mode:
– First release the power cord by turning the top cord hook.
– Step on red Lift-Away pedal on the side of the nozzle to detach the pod.
– Use the pod handle on top of the dust cup to lift the pod off the nozzle.
– Press the handle release button to detach the vacuum handle from the top of the wand.
– For more reach, detach the wand from the pod, with the handle attached.
– Attach a cleaning accessory, and select the Hard Floor setting.

General questions about maintenance:

How do I clean the filters and how often?

Filters may need to be cleaned if the vacuum stops picking up dirt, if airflow is restricted, or if you notice lighter or no suction.
Rinse the pre-motor foam and felt filters every 3 months, or as needed.
– First, remove the dust cup to access the pre-motor filters.
– Slide up the release latches on both sides of the dust cup handle. Lift the dust cup up and away from the pod.
– Remove the foam and felt filters.
– Rinse both filters with water only.
– Allow filters to air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling.
– Once dry, install the felt filter first, followed by the foam filter.
– Reinstall the dust cup by placing the bottom of the dust cup into the pod and then tilting until it clicks into place.
Rinse the post-motor HEPA filter every 12 months, or as needed.
– Pull the latch under the HEPA filter cover and lift off the cover. This is located underneath the Lift-Away logo on the bottom of the pod.
– Remove the HEPA filter by pulling on the tab underneath the pod.
– Rinse with water only.
– Allow filter to air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling.
– Once dry, reinstall the HEPA filter.
– Reattach the HEPA filter cover until it clicks into place.
For optimal performance, clean filters regularly. Between cleanings, lightly tap filters over a trash receptacle to remove dust and debris as needed.

How do I empty the dust cup and how often?

– Slide up the release latches on both sides of the dust cup handle. Lift the dust cup up and away from the pod.
– Hold the dust cup over the trash and press the bottom door release button on the back.
– Tap gently to empty contents.
– Close the dust cup door, pressing it until it clicks into place.
– If needed, turn the dust cup upside down over the trash and pull the top door release tab.
– Tap gently to remove contents. Clear debris from the cone-shaped screen.
– Wipe the interior of the dust cup clean.
– To reinstall, place bottom of dust cup into the pod and then tilt until it clicks into place.
For optimal performance, empty the dust cup each time you vacuum, or when debris reaches the MAX FILL line.

How do I maintain the brushroll?

– Step on the Lift-Away pedal to detach the pod from the nozzle.
– Place the nozzle on a flat surface, with the bottom facing up.
– Using scissors, carefully remove any string, hair or debris that may be wrapped around the brushroll.
