Dear Customer,

Before using the appliance, read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by those familiar with the instructions below.

Important safety instructions

Danger to certain categories of persons
There is an increased risk of injury for children and for people with reduced capabilities:

  • This product can be used by children aged from 8 years and older and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge
    if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.

  • Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised and at least 8 years of age.

  • The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times.

  • Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.

  • Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children these materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.

Risk of electric shock

  • The device is powered by electricity, and so there is always a risk of electric shock. The following precautions are therefore to be taken:
  • Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as well as any attachment fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.
  • The appliance should only be connected to a socket installed in accordance with the regulations. Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label.
  • Always remove the plug from the wall socket
    • after use,
    • in case of any malfunction,
    • before cleaning the appliance.
  • When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.
  • Do not touch the plug with wet hands.
  • Warning! The electrical contact on the base must be protected from any splashing or overflowing water.
  • Do not clean the water container and the base with liquids and do not immerse them; do not clean under running water.
  • The kettle may only be operated with the base provided with the appliance.
  • Caution! Never remove the water container from the base (or replace it) while the appliance is switched on.
  • Caution! If the water container is not placed on its base, it can slip on smooth surfaces.

Danger of burns and scalding

  • The exterior surfaces become hot during use and will remain so for some time afterwards.
  • Only operate the kettle under supervision and with pure water.It is essential to observe the minimum (0.5 l) and maximum (1.7 l) markings for the filling quantity. Overfilling may cause boiling water to splash out.
  • Warning! Never open the lid while the water is boiling! After boiling, be very careful if you need to open the lid, to avoid scalding.
  • Also pay attention to steam escaping by the lid, and do not touch the kettle in the handle area during the boiling process.
  • During the boiling process and when pouring out hot water, the lid must be kept closed at all times.
  • Caution! Hot steam can rise upwards during pouring!
  • Caution! Position the lid so that steam is directed away from the handle area.
  • Descale the appliance regularly. With heavily calcified appliances, there is a risk of water splashing out of the spout.

Lack of hygiene

  • Lack of hygiene may result in germs forming inside the appliance:
  • Clean the appliance thoroughly before using it for the first time.
  • Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
  • The appliance must be descaled at regular intervals. Clean the water container as necessary with a damp cloth.
  • Detailed information on cleaning the appliance can be found in the section Cleaning and care.

Danger of damage to the unit

  • Incorrect handling of the appliance can cause damage:
  • Always let the appliance cool down first before re-filling with fresh water.
  • Always place the unit on a dry, level, non-slip and heat-resistant surface, which is impervious to contact with the rubber feet.
  • Do not operate the appliance below a hanging cupboard or similar object; there is a risk that escaping steam may be trapped underneath.
  • Do not let the power cord hang free.
  • Do not kink or pinch the power cord.
  • Keep both the cord and the appliance itself well away from heat sources (eg hot-plates, gas flames).

Intended use

  • The appliance must only be used for heating clean, fresh water and for making hot beverages.
  • Warning! Any other use not stated in the instructions (misuse) is considered as not intended and can cause severe personal injury or damage to the appliance.
  •  This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as
    • in staff kitchens in shops, offices and other similar working environments,
    •  in agricultural working environments,
    • by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar accommodation,
    •  in bed-and breakfast type environments.
  • Do not leave the appliance unattended while connected.

In case of a defective appliance

  • A defective appliance can cause material damage and injury:
  • Check the appliance for damage before every use. Do not operate if the appliance shows any sign of damage.
  • In the event that you detect damage, please contact our customer service department by phone or email (see appendix).
  • Repairs to this appliance or its power cord must only be carried out by our customer service.

Thermal safety cut-out

The pre-set thermal safety cut-out protects the heating element from overheating should the appliance be erroneously switched on without any water, or if the heating plate is calcified. If the safety cut-out has been activated, the appliance cannot be switched on again. In such a case, the appliance must be allowed to cool down, or must be descaled, before it is switched on again.

Before using for the first time

  • Unpack the appliance completely and remove all packaging materials.
  • For hygienic reasons, throw away the first boiled filling of the new kettle.

Boiling process

  • Take the water container off the base and remove the lid.
  • Fill the water container with the desired amount of water. Observe the Min (0.5 l) and Max markings (1.7 l) for filling.
  • Put the lid on.
  • Place the container back on its base.
  •  Plug in the mains power plug and turn on the kettle using the on/off switch.
    • Item no. 3454: The indicator light stays on as long as the appliance is switched on.
    • Item no. 3459: The light ring stays on as long as the appliance is switched on.
  • The boiling process starts and the automatic steam stop turns the kettle off automatically after it reaches boiling point.
  • The process can be cancelled at any time by pressing the On/Off switch.
  • To pour hot water, remove the container from its base.
  • The lid must be kept closed when pouring hot water, so that hot steam does not come out. Caution! Hot steam can rise upwards during pouring!
  • Remove the plug from the wall outlet after use.
  • Do not leave any residual water in the container.

Power cord wind-up storage

The wind-up power cord storage under the base allows the length of the power cord to be limited during use and to be stored.

Descaling

  • Depending on the water quality in your area, lime deposits may build up on the heating element. It is advisable to remove any such deposits at regular intervals.
  • Any warranty claim will be null and void if the appliance malfunctions because of insufficient descaling.
  • A mixture of 500 ml water and 40 ml vinegar essence is suitable for descaling:
  • Pour the descaler in.
  • Switch the appliance on and let the solution reach boiling point.
  • Leave it to take effect for a short period.
  • To clean the container after descaling, rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • During descaling, ensure sufficient ventilation and do not inhale any vinegar vapours.
  • Do not pour descalers down enamel-coated sinks.

Cleaning and care

  • Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
  • To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the water container and the base with liquids and do not immerse them. Do not clean under running water.
  • For cleaning, a slightly damp, lint-free cloth may be used.
  • Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions, and do not use hard brushes for cleaning.

Lime filter

  • If there is heavy build-up, the lime filter can be removed from the spout and cleaned with a soft brush.
  • Put the lime filter back in place after cleaning. To do this, press the filter into the spout from the inside.

Disposal

Devices marked with this symbol must be disposed of separately from your household waste, as they contain valuable materials which can be recycled. Proper disposal protects the environment and human health. Your local authority or retailer can provide information on the matter.

Guarantee

This product is guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase. Under this guarantee the manufacturer undertakes to repair or replace any parts found to be defective, providing the product is returned to one of our authorised service centres. This guarantee is only valid if the appliance has been used in accordance with the instructions, and provided that it has not been modified, repaired or interfered with by any unauthorised person, or damaged through misuse.
This guarantee naturally does not cover wear and tear, nor breakables such as glass and ceramic items, bulbs etc. This guarantee does not affect your statutory rights, nor any legal rights you may have as a consumer under applicable national legislation governing the purchase of goods. If the product fails to operate and needs to be returned, pack it carefully, enclosing your name and address and the reason for return. If within the guarantee period, please also provide the guarantee card and proof of purchase.

Troubleshooting
