Cautions
- Always wear a heat-resistant glove to touch the stainless steel probe sensors or wires during or just after cooking. Do not touch with bare hands.
- Keep the stainless steel probe sensors and wires away from children.
- Clean the stainless steel probes and dry them thoroughly after each and every use. Do not use the receiver in the rain. It is NOT rainproof. The transmitter is rainproof but not watertight. Do not immerse in water.
- Do not expose the plugs of the stainless steel probes or the plug in holes of the transmitter to water or any liquid. This will result in a bad connection and faulty readings.
- Do not expose the receiver or transmitter to direct heat or surface.
- Do not use stainless steel probes in a microwave oven.
- The Barbecue Thermometer registers temperatures as low as 32 OF (0 °C) and as high as 572 °F (300 °C). LLL will be displayed below 32 °F and HHH will be displayed above 572 °F. Do not use the stainless probe sensor above 572 °F. Doing so will deteriorate the wire.
- Not Intended for Use by Persons ages 12 and Under.
Cleaning
- Always wear a heat-resistant glove to touch the stainless steel probe sensors or wires during or just after cooking. Do not touch with bare hands.
- Keep the stainless steel probe sensors and wires away from children.
- Wash the metal probe tips with hot soapy water and dry thoroughly. Do not immerse the probe in the water while cleaning.
- Wipe the transmitter and receiver with a damp cloth. Do not immerse either in water.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I change the battery?
Open the battery compartment and replace with 2 new AAA batteries.
How do I set the alarm?
Press and hold the PROBE1/ALARM button for 3 seconds to activate or deactivate the alarm. The alarm icon will be flashing when the alarm is enabled.
How do I set the time?
Press and hold the TIME button for 3 seconds to enter time setting mode. The time will be flashing, press any button to advance to the next step, use UP/DOWN buttons to adjust hours, press and hold SET/CANCEL button for 3 seconds to confirm or cancel.
How do I check my current temperature?
Press PROBE1/ALARM button once to display your current temperature reading.
How do I check my current time?
Press TIME button once to display your current time.
What is synchronization mode?
When you first turn on the receiver, it will enter synchronization mode automatically. In this mode, if you press any button on the receiver, it will transmit a signal to all transmitters in range (up to 500 feet) at regular intervals (about 4 seconds). The transmitter will automatically search for this signal and connect with it if found. If not found within 30 seconds, it will exit synchronization mode. If you want to place more than one transmitter in a single location (e.g., in different rooms), you can use this feature to pair them together so that they can work as a single unit. Just place them within range of each other and press any button on one of them; they should pair automatically. If pairing is successful, all transmitters paired together will have a solid blue light on their screen; if unsuccessful, they’ll have a blinking blue light instead. You can also pair transmitters manually by pressing any button on one of them while holding down the PROBE1/ALARM button on another transmitter for 5 seconds until its blue light turns solid; repeat this process until all transmitters are paired together. Note that when multiple transmitters are paired together, they’ll share their clock settings with each other so that they’ll always display the same time on their screens; when unpaired, each transmitter keeps its own clock settings so that they’ll show different times from each other even if they’re in range of each other (this is useful if you want multiple transmitters placed in different locations). Also note that when multiple transmitters are paired together, only one of them can be used at a time; if you try using another one while one is already in use, it won’t work until the first one is turned off or put into sleep mode (by holding down its probe 1/alarm button for 5 seconds). However, multiple paired transmitters can be used simultaneously as long as they’re not sharing their clock settings with each other
Is the transmitter unit resistant to the elements?
Not at all! Don’t go outside in the rain. Condensation in the digital window is a telltale sign that the electronics won’t be content for long. When this happened to me, I had to disassemble the device and let it dry. This product is my favorite because of its value and customer service. These, in my opinion, work fantastically for their intended purpose.
With this device, can you only check the temperature of the oven, or do you also need to check the temperature of the food?
For the temperature of the meat and the oven, there is a plug and probe. I have kept the meat probe outside the oven and have only been monitoring the oven temperature, so I can’t say if unplugging one to just monitor the other would work.
Do these have Bluetooth?
It uses radio frequencies and is NOT Bluetooth-compatible. Although Bluetooth works well for connecting to smart devices (like your phone), it is not effective over long distances.
Is it also suitable for air fryers?
I’ve used the probe in both my outdoor gas grill and kitchen oven. I haven’t tried it in my air fryer because it rotates, but these probes and cords are quite durable. I fail to see how it wouldn’t work in an air fryer.
Does the receiver show both the temperature of the meat and the pit?
It’s truly intended to be either added to various pieces of the meat during cooking or smoked separately, such as a pig shoulder and chicken quarters. Because those two tasks would presumably be done at different times, it is beneficial to have two probes.
Does it function for all smokers?
There are two probes, one for checking the internal temperature of the meat that is cooked and the other for checking the working temperature of the grill. If you are cooking two things, stick one probe in each. The transmitter must be positioned such that the probes may reach the prime rib, roasts in the grill or oven, or anything else you wish to measure. With the triggers configured to alert you when the required temperature is attained, the receiver device can be up to 500′ distant. I frequently utilize mine when cooking on my Weber Grill, so a smoker wouldn’t be much different.
Can I use this in a gas-powered stand-up grill?
So, I would assume. I’ve used mine in my electric smoker, gas grill, and charcoal barbecue.
