Initial Safety Instructions

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE TO ENSURE SAFETY, AS THEY MAY NOT ALL BE OBVIOUS.

  • Any use of this product in any manner not recommended by the manufacturer may cause injury to persons or damage to the appliance.
  • The use of accessories or attachments for this unit are not recommended or sold by the product manufacturer.
  • This product has no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to examine or re-pair this product yourself. Only qualified service personnel should perform any servicing.
  • Do not allow a child to use this appliance. Keep the appliance out of children’s reach at all times. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with this appliance.
  • Keep any parts or packaging materials away from children. These are a potential source of suffocation or other danger.
  • Always operate the appliance on a flat, stable heat resistant surface
  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities that may lead to improper use or injury from operating the appliance.
  • Discontinue any operation of the appliance if any of its parts malfunction or if any components are damaged in any manner. Take the appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.
  • Do not use the appliance if it has been submerged or placed under running water.
  • Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not place the appliance on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  • If the power cord of this appliance is damaged, it shall be exclusively replaced by the manufacturer or authorized service person
  • It is recommended to use the griddle on its own outlet and circuit, separate from other appliances.
  • Do not leave the product unattended while in use. Unplug the product from the electrical outlet when not in use.
  • If there is smoke or a strong odor coming from the unit, unplug it immediately and contact Customer Service.
  • When operating the griddle, ensure the power cord is kept away from any heat source. This includes the surface of the griddle.
  • Make sure the power cord is routed so that it cannot be tripped over.
  • Before first use, check the base unit (including the power cord) and all parts for any faults or defects.
  • This appliance must be used with a grounded outlet.
  • To reduce the risk of electric shock, the plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact an electrician. Do not modify the plug.
  • Do not leave the appliance plugged in if it is not in use! Do not plug in the appli-ance until it is time to start the cooking process.

Handling the cord on this product will expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, and birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Thank you for purchasing this quality Courant Griddle! This appliance is fun for trying new recipe combinations. No assembly is required. This guide will cover the steps used to prepare food with your griddle. Please read all of these instructions before first use to safely get the most out of your new appliance.

Before using your griddle for the first time

  1. Carefully unpack the appliance. Remove all labels and packaging materials. Do not plug the appliance in yet.
  2. Take special care when unpacking. Ensure there is no damage.
  3. Clean the appliance (see the Care, Cleaning, and Maintenance section later in this guide). Do not allow any parts to come in contact with water except where noted in this manual. When the appliance is completely dry, place it on a dry, stable, level surface. Ensure it is kept away from any surface edges. Make sure the surface is heat-resistant.
  4. Season the non-stick cooking surface by rubbing it lightly with cooking oil. Remove excess oil with a paper towel.
  5. Take note that the temperature control probe which must be installed before the appliance is used for cooking. See the next page.

During initial use, you may notice a slight odor due to the release of manufacturing residues. This is normal and will disappear after a few uses.

Getting to Know Your New Griddle

Installing the Removable Temperature Control Probe

This appliance ships with removable temperature control that must be installed before operation.

To install the Temperature Control:

  1. Make sure it is unplugged from the outlet!
  2. Make sure it knob is set to the OFF position!
  3. Make sure the grill, terminal post (where the probe plugs in) and the probe are all dry.
  4. Insert it, gently, straight into the side of the grill. Make sure it snaps securely into place.

Operating the Griddle

Do not plug in the appliance until it is time to heat the unit and start the cooking process. Do not leave it plugged in if it is not in use!

  1. Position the griddle on a dry, level, heat-resistant surface. Your countertop finish or surface may be affected by heat. Do not place the griddle on any surface where heat may cause a problem. Do not operate the griddle on a finished wood countertop or table.

  2. Make sure the removable drip tray is inserted into the griddle properly (see the previous page). DO NOT OPERATE THE GRIDDLE WITHOUT THE DRIP TRAY IN PLACE. Hot grease will spill onto the surface below, potentially causing damage or injury.

  3. Make sure the temperature control probe is unplugged and set to OFF. Insert the into the side of the griddle, as seen on the previous page.

  4. Plug the griddle into the wall outlet and rotate the dial to the desired temperature setting (see the chart on the next page). Allow the griddle to preheat for approximately 6 to 10 minutes. When it reaches the selected temperature, the power light will turn off, but the unit is on and ready to cook food.
    CAUTION: THE GRILL AND THE OUTSIDE OF THE MACHINE WILL GET HOT DURING COOKING AND PREHEATING.

  5. Place the food on the griddle. Be careful not to overload it.
    Note: To maintain the correct temperature, the power light may cycle on and off during cooking. This is normal.

  6. Let the food cook. Follow the suggested cooking times for the recipe used.

  7. Remove the food with a heat-proof plastic spatula or tongs. Do not use sharp ob-jects or utensils. Do not cut food while it is on the griddle surface. This is unsafe and bad for your griddle. Be careful when removing cooked food from the griddle, AS IT WILL BE HOT.

  8. When you are finished using the appliance, be sure to turn the temperature dial to the OFF position and unplug the appliance from the wall!

Flip/turn food halfway through cooking as needed.

Additional Operating Instructions and Tips

  • Remove food with a heat-proof plastic spatula or tongs. Do not use sharp objects or utensils.
  • The unit is designed for food to be eaten while hot and fresh. However, food can also be baked ahead of time for snacks and lunches. You may wish to cool it on a rack for 10 minutes. Then, place it in a container or plastic bag and seal it tightly.
  • The griddle has a non-stick surface for even baking and easy clean–up. A small amount of oil can be added to the unit for additional flavor if desired.

Care, Cleaning, and Maintenance

  1. Always switch off the appliance and unplug it before cleaning.
  2. Do not proceed with cleaning the unit until it has fully cooled.
  3. Remove the temperature control unit
    • Turn the temperature setting to the OFF position.
    • Allow the griddle to cool before disconnecting the temperature control probe.
    • Unplug the unit from the wall. Gently pull out the temperature control probe from the appliance to avoid any damage to the control probe or terminal post. Pull it straight (parallel to the griddle surface).
  4. Clean the griddle unit with a damp, lint-free cloth but do not get it wet. Do not use abrasive tools or harsh cleaning solutions.
  5. The removable drip tray may be washed in the dishwasher but should be placed on the TOP RACK only.
  6. Clean the cooking surface thoroughly by wiping it with a sponge or cloth dampened with hot water. When cleaning, do not run the water directly onto cooking surfaces. Dry the surface with a cloth or paper towel.
  7. Make sure the appliance and all parts are completely dry.
  8. With the appliance still unplugged and turned off, re-insert the temperature control probe.
    • Align the temperature control probe with the terminal post of the griddle.
    • Gently slide the temperature control probe forward until it meets the pan.
    • Ensure the temperature control probe is securely in place and makes intimate contact with the griddle.

CAUTION:
NEVER IMMERSE THE UNIT IN WATER. THIS APPLIANCE HAS ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AND SHOULD NEVER COME IN CONTACT WITH WATER

To store the appliance, make sure that all parts are clean, dry and cooled. Store the appliance in its box or in a clean, dry location. Never store it while it is hot or wet. Never wrap the cord tightly around the appliance; keep it loosely coiled. Use care so that the temperature control probe and terminal post on the griddle is not damaged during use or when stored.

SIX-MONTH LIMITED WARRANTY (US)

Courant® warrants this product against defects in material and workmanship to the original purchaser as specified below provided that the product is registered online within fourteen (14) days of purchase.

  • PARTS – if the product is determined to have a manufacturing defect, within a period of six (6) months from the date of the original purchase, Courant® will repair or replace the product parts at no charge (for parts) to consumers in the U.S.A. and Canada.
  • LABOR – if the product is determined to have a manufacturing defect, within a period of thirty (30) Days from the date of the original purchase, Courant® will repair or replace the product at no charge to consumers in the U.S.A. and Canada. After thirty (30) days, it will be the responsibility of the consumer.

Shipping costs to and from our warranty service center are the sole responsibility of the consumer. To obtain warranty service by an authorized Courant® service center, please email us at: service@courantusa.com to obtain a Repair and Maintenance Authorization (RMA) number and to locate the Warranty Service Center nearest you. Once authorized, you must mail the product to the authorized Courant® service center in its original product packaging materials or equivalent, to prevent damage while in transit.

Further, should Courant® determine that the product is outside of the Warranty terms, Courant® will return the product to the sender at the sender’s expense without being repaired or replaced, unless authorized by the consumer to service the out-of-warranty product at the consumer’s expense. All handling or restocking charges for returns and/or replacements shall be non-refundable.

Courant® specifically excludes from this warranty any non-electric/mechanical attachments, accessories, and disposable parts including, but not limited to, outside case, connecting cables, batteries, and AC adaptors. Courant® reserves the right to repair or replace defective products with the same, equivalent, or newer models. We reserve the right to either repair or replace the product at our discretion. The replacement may be either new or refurbished and while every endeavor will be made to ensure it is the same model if the same model is not available, it will be replaced with a model of equal or higher specification.

Normal “Wear and Tear” is not covered by this, or any other, warranty. Further, Courant® hereby reserves the right to determine “Wear and Tear” on any and all products. Tampering or opening the product casing or shell will void this warranty in its entirety. In addition, this warranty does not apply if the product has been damaged by accident, abuse, misuse, or misapplication; has been altered or modified without the written permission of Courant®; has been serviced by a non-authorized repair center of Courant®; has not been properly maintained or operated according to the operation manual; has been used for commercial, non-household purposes; has been cosmetically damaged; was not imported by Courant®; was not manufactured according to the specification of the United States market; was damaged due to improper installation or neglect by the consumer; was damaged due to improper packaging in shipment to the Warranty Service Center; was damaged due to natural disasters; or if the serial number for the product has been removed or defaced.

ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ARE LIMITED IN DURATION TO SIX (6) MONTHS PARTS AND THIRTY (30) DAYS LABOR FROM THE DATE OF THE ORIGINAL RETAIL PURCHASE OF THIS PRODUCT. THESE WARRANTIES AND REMEDIES ARE THE SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE WARRANTIES AND REMEDIES IN CONNECTION WITH THE SALE AND USE OF THE PRODUCT.
