FAQs

will these help me get laid?****

Yeah, I took this amazing girl home back in 2013. People didn’t really know what color changing lights like that were back then.

Why is the California sku 13 dollars more?****

Due to California label requirements, some of our products are now available in two different types of packaging. Regardless, the product inside the packaging remains the same. Please contact the retailer for questions about pricing, as the final product price is up to the retailer.

are these the 3rd generation bulbs?****

I received to different models, LCT014, and LCT016. Both appear to be 3rd gen though. Slightly different builds. One seems to be more plastic than the other. Lighter weight.

Can the yellow color setting be used to limit the number of insects attracted to the light?****

Insects are generally attracted to blue light. There is some blue light in these lamps even when set to yellow, so I would not recommend it for this use, though there likely would be SOME effect. I suggest yellow lamps for this, and understand that even then, yellow “bug-lights” are only somewhat effective.

Can this be connected strait to smartthings hub, or do I need a bridge module too?****

You need the bridge!!! I have like 10 in my bridge and work just fine … alone the hues do not work … they have great offers on hue and bridge combos, one is enough

What is the standby power consumption on these bulbs?****

The Philips Hue Website lists their standby power consumption as .2 watts. This is significantly less power than many other smart bulbs, such as LIFX which depending on the bulb use .7-1.7 watts in standby. When in use no more power than the average led bulb. Using the smart bulb features can easily make up for the standby power consumption, in my experience.

does this work with 1st generation hub****

Yes, it does.

Does this work with a standard dimmer?****

To a very limited extent, yes. LED bulbs don’t work the same way incandescent bulbs work: LEDs should be dimmed by turning them on and off really fast, varying the ON time to change the apparent brightness (called PWM, or Pulse Width Modulation), which the hub instructs these bulbs to do via RF signaling (Zigbee protocol). Note that you can actually break these bulbs by using a conventional dimmer, as conventional dimmers use a triac to vary the voltage. If the dimmer is poorly designed it can spike your $40 bulb right into a trash can.

Once you have set a color, will the bulb remain at that color after an off/on (not power off) cycle?****

Yes, it will. If you use something like Alexa or the Hue app to turn off the light, it will remain the last color you used when you turn it back on. Power cycling the light off and on will go back to a default light color.

Is this for one bulb?****

Yes, there expensive but I have them in every room and the last forever

I was gifted an older (I think maybe 1st?) generation hue kit with bulbs, but I’d like one more. can I buy any bulb and have them all work together?****

As long as they’re HUE bulbs
