Operating instructions

Symbol

  • Use your charging equipment exclusively at power sockets and charging stations for which you have original JUICE mains adapters. The device charges your vehicle with single- or three-phase AC voltage ranging from 6 to 16 ampere. Use only original JUICE accessories equipped with the original JUICE CONNECTOR.
  • Protect your charging equipment against damage from being run over, dropped, yanked, kinked or crushed.
  • To prevent overheating while charging, do not expose your JUICE BOOSTER 3 air to direct sunlight or other sources of heat for long periods of time. If the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air becomes overheated, charging is automatically interrupted until the unit’s temperature drops to within its normal operating range.
  • In many countries, industrial power outlets must be equipped with a Type-A residual current device (FCD).
JUICE recommends that a Type-A FCD be installed in power sockets of any kind. Please note the regulations in the country of use, as these always take precedence. As the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air is already fitted with a built-in DC residual current monitor, you don’t have to bother with pricey installation of a Type-B FCD or Type-A power supply

Charging instructions

Symbol

Always perform charging operations in the specified order of steps.

  • Always stop the charging process before you remove the charger vehicle-end connector from the vehicle charger socket.

  • Never disconnect any plug (neither from the power socket, nor on the JUICE CONNECTOR) while the charging process is ongoing.

  • Potential charging faults (FAULT) are identified on the device’s function display. (further information in this regard can be found in the Fault indications table).

  • Vehicles fitted with a Type-2 charging socket lock the charge coupling during the charging process, and the coupling remains locked as long as the car is locked.
This protects the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air against theft.

  • Should any unauthorised party disconnect the mains-end cable from the power socket during the charging process, when the cable is reconnected to the socket the charging process will automatically continue at the most recently detected or manually reduced charge current intensity.

Vehicle-end charging connection

Please consult the vehicle user manual for information on plugging in the connector, locking and unlocking the coupling, stopping the charging process, unplugging the connector from the vehicle-end socket, and the status of charging and the connection at the vehicle.

Changing out the mains-end adapter

Symbol

  • Stop the charging process.
  • Before changing the mains adapter plug, always first disconnect the vehicle-end connector from the vehicle and the mains adapter from the power socket.
  • Always change out the mains adapters in a dry place.

The adapters are connected and disconnected via the JUICE CONNECTOR safety connection:

  1. JUICE CONNECTOR safety plug (leads to the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air)
ging and the connection at the vehicle. Changing out the mains-end
adapter

  2. JUICE CONNECTOR safety coupling (part of the adapter)

  3. Plug and press together until you hear a click.

  4. Important: Ensure that you hear and feel theconnection snap into place! Mechanical guides only allow connection in the correct position (orange dots provide orientation for correct alignment).

  5. Disconnect the connectors by pulling back the retaining ring on the JUICE CONNECTOR safety coupling.
This is part of the adapter.

  6. Protective end caps (always fit the caps in place when the device is not in use, as they protect against ingress of dust, moisture and other harmful substances). The JUICE CONNECTOR is only watertight when fully plugged in.

Charging from domestic or industrial power outlets

  1. Select the fitting mains adapter.

  2. Connect the JUICE CONNECTOR of the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air to the JUICE CONNECTOR of the mains adapter, as described above.

  3. Plug the mains connector into the power source socket.
Chase lights signal the self-test by flashing first from left to right, and then from right to left before cutting out.

  4. The device is ready for operation within approx. 3 seconds.
The detected charging current (AMPERE) and number of phases (PHASE) as well as the set operating mode (MODE) are illuminated in white.

  5. Check to ensure the charge current intensity is correct.
Note: The charge intensity can be reduced within the first 30 seconds after connecting the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air to the vehicle by pressing the SELECT button.

  6. Plug the vehicle-end connector into the vehicle’s charge-port socket.
Without activation: When the vehicle is successfully recognised, the chase lights flash first from right to left, and then from left to right before cutting out.
With RFID activation: Hold your previously registered RFID card up to the card reader on the vehicle-end connector. When activation is successful, the chase lights flash first from right to left, and then from left to right before cutting out.

  7. The charging process begins automatically.
The chase light flashes from left to right during charging. The flashing speed varies, depending on the charging power current intensity

  8. The charge process ends.
When the chase light stops flashing, the vehicle has properly completed the charging process.

If charging at first fails to start automatically, it’s possible that a timer setting in the vehicle or app has scheduled charging for a certain specific time of day.

Changing the charging current amperage (AMPERE)

  • Press the SELECT button (before plugging the vehicle-end connector into the vehicle charging socket, or within 30 seconds after plugging it in).

When the Change mode is activated, the charging current level flashes in white.

  • By pressing the button again, the ampere value decreases by one level. Press the
  • SELECT button as many times as necessary until the LED is at the desired amperage.
  • Pressing the button again after position 6 amperes causes the LED to jump back to the maximum value defined by the given adapter in use.
  • We recommend reducing the charging current intensity when charging from older installations or continuously charging from household power sockets. This may also be necessary if multiple e-cars are being charged at outlets that share fuses, or where the outlets are fused for and specifically state lower amperage values.
  • For safety reasons, the charge intensity cannot be increased beyond the charge intensity determined by the JUICE BOOSTER 3 air.
  • The selected setting will be saved automatically after approx. 5 seconds.

The LED displays the selected ampere value in solid white.

  • The JUICE BOOSTER 3 air saves the last charge intensity setting used with a particular mains adapter, and that setting is restored after any power interruption or when the device is plugged in again with the same adapter

Changing the operating mode (MODE)

  • Press and hold down the Select button for approx. 3 seconds (before plugging the vehicle-end connectorinto the vehicle charging socket, or within 30 seconds after plugging it in).

When the Change mode is activated, the current setting flashes in white/yellow.

  • Set the desired operating mode by pressing the SELECT button repeatedly until the desired mode is reached. Sequence: Standard – Norway – France – France+Earth Check Off – Earth Check Of

The selected setting will be saved automatically after approx. 5 seconds. The selected mode is displayed in white.

STANDARD mode
For operation in all countries except France and Norway.
FRANCE mode
This mode must be selected for charging in France (as it limits the Schuko plug to 10 A or 8 A/14 A for GreenUp).
NORWAY mode
This mode, and only this mode, must be selected for charging in Norway (configures the device for use in earth-free IT networks).

Symbol

EARTH CHECK OFF MODE

Disables the device’s internal earth conductor check. The earthing is not interrupted in the process. This mode may only be used once you have checked to verify that the electrical installation and earthing have been correctly connected.
Unbalanced loads and other inadequacies in the grid can result in the earth conductor check detecting an irregularity with the earthing despite it being correctly connected.
For technical reasons, this circumstance cannot be re-solved in any other way. This situation has been repeatedly observed in Italy, among other places.
For your safety, reset the operating mode to STANDARD once you are charging from a different socket.

Note on the Technical Connection Rules for Low-Voltage:
In various countries, the local Technical Connection Rules for Low Voltage stipulate that the responsible power provider utility be notified of electric car charging stations or that an authorisation or license be obtained fromthe utility. Many power providers, however, have yet to define procedures for such notification or authorisation, in particular for mobile charging stations which, by their very nature, are usually not used at all within the utility’s service area. After numerous discussions of this matter, we recommend that you at least notify your power provider if your JUICE BOOSTER 3 air is used as a wall-mounted charging station
