ASSEMBLY AND SAFETY TIPS

You can never be too careful…

It is your responsibility to have the bike ready to ride safely for the fi rst time. Please start by:

  • Carefully following the assembly steps and precautions in the assembly guide provided.
  • Following the instructions for each step.
  • Using the necessary tools provided for proper assembly: Allen key 4, Allen key 5 and fl at wrench.

To be assembled by an adult. Avoid sharp objects when unpacking and removing the protection. Risk of damage to paint on bike or bike parts. Keep all packing materials out of reach of children. Risk of asphyxiation.

Before each use, make sure you do a thorough inspection of the bike as it is extremely important for the child’s safety.

  • The seat should be properly adjusted so that the child’s feet can easily touch the ground and the child can stop safely.
  • The handlebar should be adjusted so that the child’s chest is raised for a clear view.
  • Wheels must turn smoothly and be tight so that they do not become loose or detached.
  • Tires must be free of damage and premature wear and must be infl ated to the recommended pressure on their sidewalls.
  • Brake levers should remain easily accessible, so make sure they work properly.
  • Check the frame, fork and rims for damage.
  • Check that all parts are screwed and assembled according to the instructions in this manual and the tightening specifi cations in section 7.

SAFETY AND REGULATIONS

Have fun on the bike but remember that safety is no laughing matter.

Note to the parents
Like any activity, cycling carries the risk of injury and damage. By choosing to ride a bicycle, you assume responsibility for these risks to your child.
Because not all situations can be anticipated when riding a bicycle, this manual cannot cover the safe use of the bicycle under all conditions. There are risks associated with the use of any bicycle that cannot be foreseen or avoided and are the sole responsibility of the user.
As the parent or guardian of the child, you are responsible for the child’s activities\ and safety. We recommend that you read this manual and review the warnings and functions of the bike along with your child before you allow your child to ride the bike.

Use under close adult supervision.

Equipment and good safety practices

  • Make sure that the kid always wears the right clothes for cycling. Clothing that fits well, bright and preferably reflective so that he or she can be seen by other road users. Make sure he or she wears closed shoes that are robust and slip-resistant.
  • Make sure that there are no racks or child seats installed on the vehicle.
Gibus Cycles bicycles are not suitable for this type of equipment.

Protective equipment should be worn: an approved bicycle helmet, in good condition, properly worn and adjusted. Wearing a helmet is mandatory according to French law until the age of 12.

The bicycle may have protruding borders. After every fall or accident on the bike, make the child’s health your first priority. of the child. Afterwards, always check the condition of the bike before putting the child back in the seat.

The use of the bicycle and its maintenance can lead to the risk of being snap.

Child’s abilities
The child must practice and ride under the right conditions. Make sure the child knows how to use the brakes in all circumstances.

Rules and safety on the road
Respect the regulations of the French traffic regulations (Code de la Route français) when the child travels on public roads. If the bicycle is used in a country other than France, check the local regulations before riding.

Incorrect use may result in the risk of falls and injuries.
In rainy or wet conditions, braking distances are increased.
Make sure you limit your child’s speed and teach them to slow earlier.

The bike can only be used on consolidated tracks and roads without obstacles. The bike is not suitable for jumps, stunts and use on uneven ground. This could result in a fall and serious injury to the child.

BICYCLE PARTS

Make sure you’re ready in case of a pop quiz.

Handlebar / Stem cockpit

This part is made up of:

  • the headset,
  • the stem,
  • the handlebar.

Its adjustment is essential for riding in full safety and must be adapted to the size of the child.

  1. Make sure the stem is tightened to the torque indicated in section 7, using the Allen key 4 on the top of the fork (screws A x2). The handlebar must be aligned at 90° with the front wheel.
  2. For 14’’ and 16’’ models only, using anAllen key 4 (screws B x4), adjust the angle of the handlebar forward or backward so that the child’s arms are almost straight, with elbows slightly bent.

Tighten the various parts to the torque recommendations listed in Section 7, or the child may be in danger of falling and suffering serious injury.

Adjusting the saddle
The saddle is an essential element of the child’s comfort and efficiency on the Gibus Cycles bicycle. It is important that the height is properly adjusted to the child’s ability.
The child’s feet can easily touch the ground and the child can stop safely. To adjust the saddle height:

Minimum saddle height

Use the supplied Allen wrench 5 to loosen the seat clamp (A). Adjust the saddle to the desired height, place it in the front wheel axle and tighten the saddle clamp to the torque indicated in section 7.
The seat post (C) has a safety line (D) on its lower part. This line should not be higher

Gibus cycles 20 Inch Bike-7

than the seat tube (B), as this could damage the frame where the seat tube is inserted and cause the child to fall.

Chain and chain guard
The bicycle chain must be sufficiently tensioned. To check the tension: place your finger in the center of the chain (distance between the rear sprocket and the front crankset) and lift the chain. The chain should move vertically between 2 and 5 mm, no more.

To adjust the chain tension:

  • Loosen screw A.
  • Adjust the position of the rear wheel horizontally and retighten the screw.

To remove the rear wheel:
Gibus Cycles bikes are equipped with a Hebie CHAINLOOPER chain guard for safety and ergonomic reasons.
In the event of a repair to the rear wheel, such as a flat tire, the wheel must be removed from the frame. To remove it, the Hebie CHAINLOOPER chain guard will have to be disassembled and then reassembled. Follow on our website the instructions in the video.

When reassembling the Hebie CHAINLOOPER chain guard, it is recommended to correctly adjust the rear part (A) on the front part (B) by respecting the number of notches (C, D) indicated on the diagrams below.

Brakes
The left brake lever on a Gibus Cycles bikecontrols the front brake and the right brake lever controls the rear brake.

To adjust the brake levers:

  • Make sure the brake levers are positioned properly for the child’s hands by adjusting the angle (A). The angle of the lever should be the right fit when the child’s arms are extended.
  • Adjust the depth of the lever (the distance between the handlebar and the lever) by tightening/loosening (B) to optimize to the child’s size of hands.
  • As you use the bike, the brake cable will tend to loosen gradually. You can easily readjust the tension for better efficiency by tightening (C).

To adjust the brake pads:

  • Adjust the distance between the brake pads and the rim (called the brake band). When you are not operating the brake levers, the pads should not be in contact with this brake band. However, the distance should be reasonable so that they can make sufficient contact with the band when you brake.
  • Check the position of the pads when braking. The pads should be positioned so that they are in contact over their entire length and width with the brake band.

There is a wear indicator on the pads that allows you to track and control their condition. It is recommended to change both brake pads at the same time. Make sure they are of good quality and compatible with the braking system and the wheels of the bicycle.
Avoid contact between the brake pads and materials such as oil or grease used in bicycle maintenance.

Wheels and tires
Adjusting and tightening the wheels is critical to the efficiency of the bike and the safety of the child. The wheels must be properly tightened to the recommended torque (section 7) using the supplied Allen wrench 5. The wheels must turn without rubbing on the brakes or wobbling when turning.

Before each ride, remember to check the rims and spokes for wear or cracks. If this is the case, change the part immediately, otherwise the child could be at risk.
Inflate tires to recommended sidewall pressures before use. Check tires regularly for condition and wear.

Change the tires immediately if they show advanced fatigue on both the tread and the sidewalls. Make sure of the quality and compatibility (e.g., diameter and width) of the new tires and tubes with the bike’s wheels.

Frame and fork

The frame and fork are essential parts of your bike’s structure. We recommend you check these components for visible damage or cracks before each ride.

You can find the serial number of the bike under the crankset, engraved on the frame. We recommend that you write it down for reference or theft purposes.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE

He who goes far, takes care of his bike.

A bike that lasts over time is a bike with quality parts. This part is up to us.
However, it is also a bike that must be maintained regularly.
To make sure that your bike will perform well over time, for your child or when it is passed on to someone else, we recommend that you follow these maintenance tips.

TIGHTENING / TORQUE SETTINGS

Need to tighten the reins on your biking? Easy, find the right torque!

When adjusting certain parts on your bicycle, please follow the following torque recommendations, listed in Newton-meters (Nm).

When a screw is tightened with too little torque, the connection may be too loose and not secure. Too much torque can damage or destroy screws and other parts.

WARRANTY AND SPARE PARTS

100% happiness guaranteed.

Your Gibus Cycles bike comes with a 5 year warranty on the frame and fork. The warranty is 2 years for parts. This warranty covers potential manufacturing defects, except for normal wear and tear of components and damage resulting from abnormal use or falls. This warranty applies from the fi rst day of purchase of the bicycle on proof of invoice/ receipt. It is non-transferable: it concerns only the fi rst owner of the bicycle.

In order to maintain a high level of safety, worn or defective parts should be replaced immediately with original Gibus Cycles spare parts. For safety reasons, the bike should not be used until it is repaired. Please contact us on our website at www.gibuscycles.com for any questions regarding service and spare parts.

In order to maintain a high level of safety, consumed or defective parts must be replaced immediately with appropriate spare parts. Preferably, replace them with original Gibus Cycles parts or, at a minimum, with the original specifi cations, especially for tires, tubes and brake friction elements. For safety reasons, the bicycle should not be used until it has been repaired.
