Cleaning Information

The following processes are recommended, but should be adapted to comply with the local or national guidelines (Decontamination of Medical Devices)  which may apply within the Healthcare facility of use.

The pressure reducing products should be routinely decontaminated between patients and at regular intervals while in use; as is good practice for all reusable medical equipment.

Cleaning Cushion or Mattress

The product can be cleaned using the following simple procedures in accordance with your Local Infection Control Policy:

Wipe with clean neutral water and soap.

After cleaning, dry the mattress/ cushion out of direct exposure to sunlight.

The mattress/ cushion cover can also be machine washed and should be completely removed prior to laundering.

Where required covers can be laundered in a pre-wash at 600C for up to 15 minutes and in a main wash up to 840C for up to 15 minutes. This should be followed by a cold rinse and extraction.

However it is recommended that you check your local policy to determine the time/temperature ratio required to achieve thermal disinfection.

Covers may be tumble dried or air dried. They may be tumble dried on a low heat for up to 2 minutes. Drying temperature must not exceed 610C. Followed by cool tumble dry for up to 2 minutes and a further warm tumble dry for 2 minutes.

The product must be dry prior to refitting.

Note:

  • When refitting the cover over the foam ensure that the foam is positioned correctly. For the Carefree Premier Heel mattress ensure the tapered foot end is towards the bottom of the mattress cover and for the Diversi-foam mattress range ensure the narrow heel cells are also positioned towards the bottom of the mattress cover.
  • Frequent or prolonged exposure to higher concentration disinfectant solutions may prematurely age the fabric cover of mattresses. Surfaces must be protected during use and rinsed and  thoroughly dried after application of a disinfectant.
  • Only use disinfectants designed for cleaning healthcare equipment.
  • Using inappropriate detergents or disinfectants and not observing the manufacturer’s guidelines may result in damage to the mattress which Ultimate Healthcare cannot be held liable for.

Caution:

  • Do not use abrasives (scouring powder), scourers or other materials/agents which could damage the mattress system.
  • Do not use fabric softener or biological washing detergents.
  • Exceeding the temperature can cause significant damage to the product cover.

Disposal

The disposal and recycling of used devices and packaging must comply with the applicable local legal regulations. Ensure that the mattress is cleaned prior to disposal to avoid any risk of contamination.

Caution: Do not fold, crease or over stack mattresses/ cushions

Storage

The product should then be placed in in a suitable protective cover and in an area appropriate for medical devices.

Maintenance

Periodically, and between each patient use check the cover for damage/tears. If the cover is damaged in a way that allows the ingress of liquid then the cover should not be used and a replacement sourced.

Instructions or reference information for repair of equipment parts are provided by the manufacturer, please contact your local service provider or distributor for further information.

Warranty

2 year Warranty for foam and cover.
