Handling GENERAL

This product weights 12kg (2700mm) and 15kg (3000mm) per sheet. A two person lft is recommended.

Sheets are delivered in cardboard boxes, when moving sheets ensure they are not drop on their corners or edges as this can cause damage. Once sheets are unwrapped DO NOT push or drag sheets over one another as this may cause scratches or damage to the sheets

If lifting product by fork lift ensure there is adequate support from the forks to avoid over bending or damaging sheets. Gently lift and place panels to move them.

Storage GENERAL

Ensure sheets are placed on flat level ground.

Sheets must be stored in a dry enclosed area. Do not leave outdoors in the rain or exposed to UV light.

DO NOT store in areas with fresh plaster or concrete.

Conditioning GENERAL

Slat Interior does not require environmental conditioning prior to installation.

Quality Control KEY INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

Sheets are to be inspected prior to cutting or installation for Chips, Scratches, evidence of transportation damage and Surface finish

Interior Slat is manufactured to the highest standard although there can be manufacturing variances on occasion. (Trimming of the Felt can correct any variation).

If end joins are required iris recommended to recur the ends square or use trims over the joins as there can be minor variations in the manufacturing process.

Ensure to Re-measure all panels once onsite to determine exact millimetre dimensions.

Planning KEY INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

Slat Interior by Profile Panels can only be used for interior dry applications. Below are key considerations to help determine your best use of the Interior Slat Range. Not Suitable for the Following:

  • Exterior
  • Direct fixed to Masonry/block
  • Flooring
  • Bathrooms/Wet Areas

Cutting KEY INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

Slat Interior can be cut by a Fine-tooth Handsaw, Circular saw, Jig Saw, Table Saw and Track Saw.

Afine tooth and sharp blade will result in the best cut.

We recommended using masking tape where the cut will be made to further reduce tear out of the Veneer.

Cutouts can be made by drilling holes in the corners then cutting between the holes. Ensure the Felt is reattached around the cutout prior to cutting.

Fixing KEY INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

Wall Fixings can be made direct into plasterboard without aligning with studs.

Sheets can be fixed direct to framing, Plasterboard and other sheet material (minimum 9mm Thickness)

Ceiling Fixings must be made into ceiling battens and run perpendicular to them unless set out to suit in the  framing stage.

Concrete/Masonry Framing Set Out KEY INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

For concrete/masonry applications Furring channel or timber battens must be placed Horizontally at 600mm centres in order to detach the panels from the concrete/masonry to avoid moisture being Absorbed by the Slats. If the wall is sealed, panels can be attached directly to concrete/masonry.

Curving Slat Interior KEY INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

Slat Interior can be used on curved walls with the smallest radius being 300mm.

Studs or solid fixing is required at a minimum of 100mm centers to achieve this.

  • 12mm Staples or 10mm Screws (Used for re-attaching slats to backing for cut pieces)

CUTTING THE PANELS TO WIDTH

Inmost instances you will be required to cut the final panel to width in order for it to fit.

Cuts in the felt can be made using a sharp crafts knife.

Running the crafts knife against the edge of a slat whilst cutting the felt s the best and safest way to achieve a clean straight cut. A circular saw can also be used.

If the final sheet s to end on a slat you can use a screw driver or staple puller and remove the staples on the back of the slat and will only need to cut the felt to fit the final piece.

If the final sheet ends on a slat and you want to cut the slat you will need to staple or screw the slat onto the backing felt prior to cutting. This will ensure the slat wont move when the staples are cut.

CUTTING THE PANELS TO HEIGHT

Cutting to height can be done with a Fine-tooth Handsaw, Circular saw and many other tools. (Page 6)

Step 1-Measure
Measure the wall height from floor to ceiling. If you have Scotia and architrave, measure between these.

Step 2- Mark
Mark the cutting line on the panel with a pencil. It is recommended to use masking tape where you will be cutting which will ensure a clean cut.

Step 3-Cut
Set Saw depth to 25mm (Thickness is 21mm) and Cut through both the timber slat and backing felt in one cut.

Step 4 – Re-attach
(Also Applies to Power-points/Switches) The Slats may need to be reattached to the backing felt depending on cut location. Sheets are stapled at 300mm increments during manufacturing and if cut between will need to be reattached.

Reattaching is not required if existing staples are within Somme of the sheet edge.

Staples 12mm in length or Screws 10mm in length can be used to re-attach the Slats. If screws are used ensure they are 20mm from the ends and center of the slats to avoid splitting.

MOUNTING THE PANELS WITH SCREWS (Recommended)

Installation Tools CHECKLIST

  • SAW
  • PENCIL
  • SCREWDRIVER
  • TAPE MEASURE
  • BLACK SCREWS (35MM FOR MOUNTING THE PANELS)
  • 12MM STAPLES (FIXING THE LLAMAS ON THE FELT AFTER CUTTING PANELS TO LENGTH)

PREPARING THE WALL

Unimportant to ensure that the wall is clean and free of defects that may interfere with the installation.

Remove any screws, nails, or other objects that are present on the wall and ensure the wall is straight and flat.

MOUNTING THE PANELS

Once the Panels are cut to the desired size, these can be mounted to the wall.

We recommend 15 screws for a 2400mm Wall and 18 for a 2700mm wall. (Refer to the diagram below.)

Ensure the first sheet is plumb/level before screwing off.

Using the Slat Interior Black Screws, screw between the slats into the felt backing until Snug. Ensure not to over tighten.

Screws can be directly screwed into GIB/ plasterboard or any sheet material which is a minimum on 9mm in thickness. Sheets can also be fixed direct to framing if Nos/dangs are at 600mm centres.

For Ceiling mounting, it required to fasten into ceiling battens. These can be found with a stud finder but are normally spaced at 400/450/600mm centres. Sheets are to be laid perpendicular to the ceiling battens for optimal fixing.

MOUNTING THE PANELS WITH GLUE

  • SAW
  • PENCIL
  • MOUNTING GLUE – Sinkable 118 or Liquid Nails Fast Grab
  • TAPE MEASURE
  • 12MM STAPLES (FIXING THE ASCELLA ON THE FELT AFTER CUTTING PANELS TO LENGTH)

PREPARING THE WALL

It is important to ensure that the wall is clean and free of defects that may interfere with the Installation.

Remove any screws, nails, or other objects that are present on the wall and ensure the wall is straight and flat.

MOUNTING THE PANELS

Once the Panels are cut to the desired size and have been test fit, these can be mounted to the wall.

Before gluing the sheet ensure the first sheet will install plumb/level. A spirit level or laser level is best.

Place the panel slat side down on a piece of clean cardboard to expose the felt side. Add the mounting glue every 300mm in a lazy S formation. ( Refer to the diagram below.)

Once you have added the mounting glue, carefully place the panel in the install location, applying pressure to the Panel all over to ensure it bonds.

If you require Panels to be mounted in the middle of a wall (Not touching the floor) you may require a couple of screws to tack it in position until glue is set.

MOUNTING THE PANELS TO BATTENS

  • SAW
  • PENCIL
  • BATTEN SCREWS 90MM FOR MOUNTING BATTEN ONTO WALL
  • TAPE MEASURE
  • 12MM STAPLES (FIXING THE LLAMAS ON THE FELT AFTER CUTTING PANELS TO LENGTH)
  • BATTENS ( RECOMMENDED THICKNESS OF 45MM)
  • MINERAL WOOL (RECOMMENDED THICKNESS OF 45 MM)

PREPARING THE WALL

It is important to ensure that the wall is clean and free of defects that may interfere with the installation.

Remove any screws, nails, or other objects that are present on the wall and ensure the wall is straight and fat.

MOUNTING THE UNDERLYING BATTENS

Measure Wall length and cut 70x4smm Battens to length. (For a Ceiling height of 2400-2700 you will require 5 Horizontal Battens).

Install battens with screws or nails into studs at 600mm centres. Ensure they are installed level. (If you have block walls you will require DPC to be Installed on the back of the battens and the use of concrete screws or nails.

A maximum distance of 600mm s required between the battens to ensure adequate sheet support.

INSERT MINERAL WOOL BETWEEN THE BATTENS

To ensure Class A sound absorption you will need to insert 45mm of mineral wool/sound insulation between the battens.

Sound insulation is available at any local hardware store and can be cut with the sharp craft knife.

Once cut, the mineral wool/ sound insulation can then be squeezed in between the battens. Ensure the insulation does not push out past the battens which could cause the sheets to beige.

MOUNTING THE PANEL

Once the Panels are cut to the desired size, these can be mounted to the wall.

We recommend 15 screws for a 2400mm Wall and 18 for a 2700mm wall. (Refer to the diagram below.)

Ensure the first sheet is plumby/level before screwing off. Using the Slat Interior Black Screws, screw between the slats into the felt backing until Snug. Ensure not to over tighten.

Screw direct to the battens

OVERPOWER I NT/ SWITCHES Installation

MEASURING

Install Panels leading up to the Power-point in order to get accurate measurements. Whilst the Power-point i screwed into the wall measure from the previous panel to to get the start and finish point and from the floor or skirting to measure the height.

Optional – If you want to install on top of the panels, Mark and Cut out a hole 20mm less in width and height than the power point.

CUTTING/ STAPLING

It is recommended to cut power-points out with a Jigsaw or multi tool. Masking Tape on the cut lines will ensure clean cuts.

Once the slats are cut, cut any excess felt with a craft knife.

The Slats will require staples or small 10mm screws to reattach in place. Staples are the recommended method. If using screws ensure they are 20mm from the end of a slat to avoid any chance of splitting.

Tip: It is easier to reattach the slats to the backing felt prior to cutting.

INSTALLING

Once cut, install Panel as standard. If you are installing the power-points on top of the slats you may require an electrician to bring it through the panel and attach with extended 65mm screws to the flush box

  • Cut Out

  • Staple Backing

  • Face Mounted Power-point

  • Recessed Power-point

ENDS STRIPS Installation

End strips are best installed on the first panel to be installed if there is only one external corner on the install wall.

It is recommended to use 10mm screws or 12mm staples to attach the end strip. Fasteners can be placed at 300mm centres at a maximum. Small beads of Sinkable 118 can also be used

PLACEMENT
With the sheet on its backside, slide end strip under the overhanging felt edge.

FASTENING
Ensure end strip is pushed hard up to the felt and fasten with staples or screws.
