INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE I FIRE ESCAPE LADDER : EL45S

GENERAL:
Read the instructions carefully to get a general understanding of how the ladder works so as to be prepared should the need arise. The ladder is designed for private residences only and must not be used in fire exits decreed by public authorities. It is recommended that you practice assembling the ladder as shown in Figures 1 and 2. NB. The ladder is folded and packed to function optimally in an evacuation situation. You should therefore not release it for a fire drill.

PLANNING:
Speak to everybody living in the house about what to do in the event of a fire. Ensure that there are two possible fire exits from each bedroom (e.g. a door and a window). Carry out a fire drill (let the children take part as well) and choose a place outside the building for everyone to gather after an evacuation.

CHECK LIST FOR SAFE EVACUATION:

  • Have you sketched an evacuation plan for the house and chosen a place for the family to gather after evacuation? (A meeting place makes it easier to ensure that nobody is still in the house).
  • Have you spoken to the whole family, children included, of what to do and how to evacuate the house if a fire breaks out?
  • Is there a safe alternative fire exit from all the bedrooms?
  • Are all the fire exit windows and doors easy to open?

CAUTION! Check that the fastening hooks fit the window sill in question before putting the ladder in the storage place intended.

DURING EVACUATION

  • Close the door to the room before opening the window to prevent the fire from spreading too quickly.
  • Extend the ladder’s support bars. [Fig. 1]
  • Hang the fastening hooks over the window sill with the ladder outside. [Fig. 2]
  • Pull the strap to release the ladder.
  • Ensure that the hooks are sitting firmly over the sill and climb onto the I adder legs first. Hold on to the hooks for support.
  • Keep your body close to the ladder while climbing down to keep it firmly in place.

CAUTION! The ladder must not be used from a window that is above a window on the first floor. The distance pieces on the ladder could smash the first floor window.

STORAGE:
Store the ladder in the immediate vicinity of the fire exit window, e.g. in a cupboard or under a bed. Avoid storing the ladder in temperatures over
50 °c or in direct sunlight.

MAINTENANCE

Check the working order of the ladder twice a year. Look for damage and signs of ageing, wear and tear or deterioration of the material. Also, closely check the ladder after use. Replace it if it is visibly damaged. The ladder weakens with age so it is recommended that you replace it after 6-8 years.

CAUTION!

  • Read the user instructions carefully.
  • Only use the ladder if the main fire exit is blocked.
  • The ladder must not be used from a window that is above a window on the first floor. The distance pieces on the ladder could smash the first floor window.
  • The ladder must not be used from a window that cannot be opened fully.
  • Must only be used from a window with a sill that is strong enough to carry the expected weight.
  • Ensure that the width of the sill is within the permitted interval of 15-30cm.
  • The ladder can only carry one person at a time.
  • As far as possible, avoid carrying a child down the ladder with you.
  • The ladder must be inspected regularly in order to detect damage and/or weakened construction material in time.
  • The ladder should never replace other safety equipment like fire alarms or extinguishers.
