Compact fleece roll filter with high cleaning performance
The fleece filter of the Ocean Clear is extremely effective at filtering out coarse dirt particles, suspended particles and other organic waste from the water. This helps to minimize the formation of nitrate and phosphate while retaining important trace elements.
Suitable for salt- and freshwater aquaria with a water volume of up to 850
litres.
For operation with an additional pump, we recommend our DC Runner 800 or 1000.
Only for operation inside the filter tank. Dimensions (l x w x h) app.: 180 x
160 x 325 mm
1. Included in delivery
– Ocean Clear housing with filter insert
– Ocean Clear Fleece Roll (approx. 40 m)
– Controller
– Power supply unit: In: 100 – 240 V AC / 50/60 Hz
Out: 12 V/ 1 A DC
– Float switch
– Motor
2. Safety instructions
– When working in the aquarium, always disconnect all units from the power
supply system before putting your hands into the water. Connect all units to
the mains via a residual current device with a maximum residual current of 30
mA.
– Connection to pumps other than those mentioned in the instructions is not
permitted.
– Suitable for indoor use only.
– Protect the controller from moisture (humidity < 80%), splash water and
condensation.
– We recommend forming drip loops with the cables to prevent any water running
along the cables from getting into sockets.
– The electrical data of the Ocean Clear must match the data of the power
supply unit used (12 V DC). This data can be found on the rating plates.
– Not suitable as a toy for children.

The suspensions (1) must be mounted on the filter housing (12) according to the desired position in the filter tank. You can attach the filter with the narrow side, in which case the suspensions are screwed directly to the housing, or with the wide side. In this case, the two mounting brackets (3) are first screwed to the filter housing using the countersunk screws. The suspensions are then attached to these. The filter should be immersed approx. 9 – 10 cm into the water so that sufficient space remains up to the float switch (Fig. 2). The edge of the filter housing should be lower than the glass edge of the filter basin so that no water can run out of the filter housing next to the filter basin in the event of a defect. It is also important to ensure that the fleece rolls do not rest against a glass edge (Fig. 7). Bear in mind that the roll will be slightly thicker on the reel than when unused. Any threaded openings on the filter housing that are not required are sealed with the rubber plugs (4) supplied.
Fig. 2: Mounting the float switch (height adjustable using a screw)
Fig. 3: Fleece mounting
First remove the adhesive strip from the fleece. Then place the fleece around the inner tube (Fig. 3, No. 1). The glued-on guide rail is then positioned between the curved fleece. Now, slide the clamping rail (Fig. 3, No. 2) over the tube with the fleece. The fleece is not glued tightly so that it can be removed more easily later. Then wind up the fleece a little more (note the direction, see Fig. 1). Work as precisely as possible so that it winds up straight later.
The fleece roll and winding spool with the motor inserted are mounted as shown in Fig. 1. The filter insert is held together at the highest point with a connecting rod.
Fig. 4: Ocean Clear with DC Runner 1000 (not included)
The Ocean Clear can be operated completely independently with its own pump (Fig. 4). There is a black sealing cap on the side of the filter housing (Fig. 1, No. 6). It can be cut open in a cross shape along the markings (Fig. 5) using a sharp cutter knife. An Aqua Medic DC Runner 800 or 1000 without hose connection is inserted directly with its thread.

Fig. 6: Inlet via drain pipe from the aquarium overflow (max. 32 mm pipe diameter)
However, the Ocean Clear can also be connected to an aquarium overflow (see Fig. 6). The inlet pipe then protrudes into the narrow inlet chamber. The flow rate should not exceed 2,000 litres per hour, although this depends on the filter installation. The flow rate should not be confused with the flow rate of the return pump used. In an aquarium with an under cabinet filter and overflow, the maximum capacity of the pump is usually considerably higher than the effective inflow to the filter due to the pipework and the difference in height.
Fig. 7: The fleece roll must not be blocked by the edge of the filter basin.
The higher the filter is mounted, the more space remains at the top. Please note that as the fleece becomes increasingly dirty, the water level in the filter housing rises and water may spill over the edge of the filter container if the flow rate is high. In this case, lower the float switch (Fig. 2) slightly.
To insert the filter insert with the mounted fleece roll into the filter container, pull the side disc with the float switch attached to it upwards a little. Removal is carried out in reverse order.
If the fleece is completely dirty and wound up, remove it from the take-up reel by first pulling the motor and then the reel out of the wound-up fleece to the side.
A completely soiled and wound fleece is removed from the take-up reel by first switching off the motor and then pulling the reel out of the wound fleece to the side.
