Shelf Pin & Drawer Slide Template Usage:

The Shelf Pin & Drawer Slide Template is designed to help
you accurately place shelf pins and drawer slides in your
woodworking projects. The template includes various parts such as
indexing pins, spacers, and drill guide bushings.

1-A. 5mm Shelf Pins on 32mm Centers – Unassembled Cabinet:

Lay the cabinet side board flat on your workbench.
Install the 32mm System Spacers onto the Template and insert a
5mm Indexing Pin into the specified hole.
Position the Template on the workpiece, ensuring proper
alignment using clamps.
Drill holes along the Template using a 5mm Self-Centering Drill
Bit or a Spiral Router Bit with a Router Template Guide
Bushing.
To continue the pattern for longer cabinets, adjust the
Indexing Pin position and insert additional pins as needed.

1-B. 5mm Shelf Pins on 32mm Centers – Assembled Cabinet:

Place the System Spacers on the Template and position it inside
the assembled cabinet.
Drill holes using a 5mm Self-Centering Drill Bit.
For taller cabinets, adjust the Template vertically and use
multiple Indexing Pins to continue the pattern.
Repeat the process for the other side of the cabinet and align
the Template for back rows.

1-A 5mm Shelf Pins on 32mm Centers – Unassembled Cabinet
1. Lay your cabinet side board flat on your workbench.
2. With the metric side of the Shelf Pin & Drawer Slide Template 1 facing you, install 32mm System Spacers 6 onto the Template. Install a 5mm Indexing Pin 3 into the indexing hole marked “A” with the long end going through the Template.
3. Slide the Template into position engaging the System Spacers and the Indexing Pin with the edges of the workpiece. Clamp the Template in place with spring clamps or light-duty F or C style clamps. The Spacers and Indexing Pins should position your first holes 37mm from the front of the cabinet and 37mm from the bottom of the cabinet.
4. Drill the holes along the Template using a 5mm Self-Centering Drill Bit 10 or a Spiral Router Bit 12 with a 3/8″ Router Template Guide Bushing 14.
5. To continue the hole pattern in a cabinet side longer than 24″, remove the 5mm Indexing Pin from the “A” position, flip the Pin over, move the Template along the hole pattern and insert at least two Pins in previously drilled holes.
6. Rotate the Template 180° and insert the Indexing Pin in the opposite “A” position to drill the series of holes on the other side.
1-B 5mm Shelf Pins on 32mm Centers – Assembled Cabinet
1. For an assembled 32mm system cabinet, place the two 32mm System Spacers 6 onto the Shelf Pin and Drawer Slide Template 1 in the appropriate reliefs. Place the Template into the cabinet on the left-hand side, resting on the bottom of the cabinet and the 32mm System Spacers engaging the side.
2. Drill the holes using a 5mm Self-Centering Drill Bit 10 (it is not practical to use a router for installed cabinets).
3. If your cabinet is taller than 24″, you can move the Template vertically and use at least two 5mm Indexing Pins 3 in previously drilled holes to continue the pattern.
4. Repeat the process for the other side of the cabinet.
5. Remove the 32mm System Spacers and align the edge of the Template against the back of the cabinet for the back rows.

2-A. 1/4″ Shelf Pins on 1″ Centers – Unassembled Face Frame Cabinet
1. Select your desired setback and position the Unassembled Face Frame Offset Spacers 7 in the appropriate positions on the “Inch” side of the Shelf Pin and Drawer Slide Template 1.
2. Install a 1/4″ Indexing Pin 3 into the 1/4″ indexing hole (hole closest to the end of the Template).
3. Slide the Template into position, registering the Offset Spacers and the Index Pin to the edge and end of the board. Clamp the Template to the work piece.
4. Drill the holes along the Template using a 1/4″ Self-Centering Drill Bit 9 or a 1/4″ Spiral Router Bit 11 with a 3/8″ Router Template Guide Bushing 14.
5. To continue the hole pattern in a cabinet side longer than 24″, move the Template along the hole pattern and insert at least two Pins in previously drilled holes.
6. To drill the rear holes of the cabinet, rotate the Template 180° and repeat the process.
2-B. 1/4″ Shelf Pins on 1″ Centers – Assembled Face Frame Cabinet
1. Select your desired setback and position the Assembled Face Frame Offset Spacers 8 in the appropriate positions on the “Inch” side of the Shelf Pin and Drawer Slide Template 1.
2. Place the Shelf Pin Template into the cabinet with the Offset Spacers registering agains the inside of the face frame and the bottom of the Template resting on the bottom of the cabinet.
3. Drill the holes using a 5mm Self-Centering Drill Bit 10 (it is not practical to use a router for installed cabinets).
4. To continue the hole pattern in a cabinet side longer than 24″, move the Template along the hole pattern and insert at least two Pins in previously drilled holes.
5. To drill the rear holes of the cabinet, rotate the Template 180° and repeat the process.

3-A. Drawer Slides – Face Frame
1. Locate the correct vertical position for the drawer slide.
2. Using the indexing guide pin hole labeled “B” on the Template 1, insert a 5mm Indexing Pin 3 into each of the holes of the Shelf Pin and Drawer Slide Template 1. Figurea.
3. This places the first drawer slide hole at 3/8″, or in the center of a 3/4″ face frame board. The hole is marked “First Drawer Slide Mounting Hole”.
4. If you are attaching the drawer slide with a Pozi drive euro screw, drill the hole using a 5mm Self-Centering Drill Bit 10. FigureB.
5. If you are attaching the drawer slide with a #6 wood screw, install the 7/64″ Drill Guide Bushing 5 and use a 7/64″ drill bit to make the hole. Figure C.

3-B. Drawer Slides – 32mm System
1. Using the indexing guide pin holes labeled “A”, insert a 5mm Indexing Pin 3 into each of the holes of the Shelf Pin and Drawer Slide Template 1.
2. Slide the Template up to the Indexing Pins as stops and slide up to the top of the cabinet.
3. The hole labeled “First Drawer Slide Mounting Hole” will then be 37mm from the top of the opening and 37mm from the front of the cabinet.
4. · IF USING 5MM POZI DRIVE EURO SCREWS: Drill the hole using a 5mm Self- Centering Drill Bit 10.
· IF USING #6 UNDERCUT HEAD WOOD SCREWS: Drill the hole using the 7/64″ Drill Bushing 5 and a 7/64″ Brad point bit.
5. The last hole on the metric scale of the Template is the location for the back hole of the longest drawer slide available on a 24″ deep base cabinet.
6. If you are installing multiple locations of drawer slides down the height of the cabinet, you will have to measure from the first hole and move the template down accordingly.
