Product Information

  • Product Name: CODA Colorado Offset Drain Attachment
  • Certification: ASME A112.18.2/CSA 8125.2
  • Certified by NSF International

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Placement of CODA:
Ensure existing drainage and trap are securely in place, including the flange, waterproofing, and any required drainage venting per your state’s plumbing code.

  2. Measure and Cut to Size:
Decide and mark the location of the new drainage. Measure the distance from the existing drainage flange to the new drainage location.

  3. Male Elbow Fit Test:
Screw the male elbow into the drainage to confirm smooth threading and easy rotation in any direction.

  4. Measure and Cut for Fit:
Decide and mark the location of the new drainage. Measure the distance from the drainage flange to the new drainage location.

  5. Choosing the Right Extension:
Your package includes pre-cut extensions of 6 and 18, providing 4 ways to achieve the desired length. Select the short extension for 6 or less; choose the longer extension for more than 6 but less than 18. Use the included coupler to combine both extension pieces for a total length of up to 32 inches.

  6. Test Fit and Assembly before Final Installation:
Ensure all pieces fit smoothly before applying ABS glue. Cut threads (or smooth holes) up to 5/8 before installing the final drain to prevent it from hitting the bottom of the female elbow.

  7. Final Assembly and Gluing:

    • Step 1: Screw the male elbow into the existing drainage.
    • Step 2: Apply a thin layer of ABS glue on each extension and coupling individually, ensuring a secure union without excess glue. Watch the video guide before starting.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Q: Do I need any special tools for installation?
A: Basic plumbing tools like a saw, measuring tape, and ABS glue are required for installation.

  • Q: Can I cut any of the extensions to a shorter length?
A: Only the 18-inch piece can be cut to a shorter length; do not cut any other pieces.

Thank you for purchasing CODA – The Colorado Offset Drain Attachment.
Whether you are a seasoned pro or a do-it-yourselfer, it is strongly suggested that you watch the installation videos at www.codaus.com to get familiar with the installation process before getting started. Make sure that your pan is pre-pitched and waterproofed according to your state’s plumbing code before installing CODA.

**ABS primer & glue and fine grit sandpaper required but not included***
We welcome your comments and questions. Please watch our installation videos or consult a licensed professional in your area before installation.

IMPORTANT:

  • A. CODA must be installed in a properly waterproofed area, DO NOT install CODA outside of a waterproofed area.
  • B. When installing CODA in a new or existing pan, adhere to AHJ and local codes for the required waterproofing height up the wall.
  • C. If doing demolition or removal of an existing pan, install a new clamp drain and rebuild the new pan, ensuring compliance with AHJ and local codes for the required waterproofing height up the wall.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION

  1. Positioning CODA:
Confirm that the existing drain and P-trap are firmly set in place (including the flange, waterproofing, and any required drain venting, as may be required by your local plumbing codes).

  2. Measure and Cut to Fit:
First, decide and mark the location of the new drain. Next, measure the distance from the existing drain flange to the new drain location.

  3. Test Fit of Male Elbow:
Gently screw the male elbow into the current drain to confirm that it threads without binding and easily rotates in any direction.

  4. Setting the Direction.
With the male elbow threaded into the current drain, turn CODA to point in the direction of your new drain (female elbow).

  5. Choosing the proper extension length:
Your package includes both 6″ and 18″ pre-cut extensions, giving you 4 ways to achieve your desired length Choose the short extension if you need 6″ or less; choose the longer extension if you require longer than 6″ and less than 18″. By using the included coupler you can combine both extension pieces to achieve up to 32″ in total length. The 2-inch coupler is only necessary to connect the two elbows and the 6-inch extension piece. (Note: remember to use emery/sand paper to remove any burrs that occur as a result of cutting the 18″ extension piece. This will ensure a smooth fit when gluing pieces together. ONLY the 18″ piece can be cut to a shorter length, DO NOT cut any of the other pieces).

  6. Test-fit and assembly prior to final installation:
Before final assembly and applying ABS glue, all pieces should fit together smoothly /easily in preparation for glue application.

  7. Final assembly and gluing:

    • Step 1: Screw the male elbow into the existing drain.

    • Step 2: Now you are ready to glue and attach the other pieces to the male elbow. Using approved ABS glue, brush a thin coat of primer, then ABS glue onto each extension and coupler and attach immediately. Your CODA drain attachment should now be ready to install your finish drain to the female elbow.
      IMPORTANT:

    • Before installing your finish drain, you must cut the threads down to a minimum of 5/8″ of an inch or greater to the adjusted height of the tile depending upon the thickness. The female elbow has a thread stops to ensure your drain is not threaded in too far; however, if you are using a smooth bore adapter, an uncut drain will slide through, past the drain stop, and bottom out in the elbow causing backflow. To prevent this, you MUST cut both the adapter and the drain to a minimum of 5/8″ of an inch. CODA fits with all industry-standard size 2″ threaded male ends, which are also known as 2″ 11 ½ NPSM (11.5 threads per inch) National Pipe Straight Mechanical.

  8. How to Set Proper Pitch/Slope for Best Water Flow:
The CODA package includes 3 shims (2 U-Shims and 1 Flat Shim) to be used as needed, to create the desired/required pitch/slope of 1/4 inch per foot, for best drainage and to comply with local plumbing codes. To achieve the desired slope/pitch, first use a U-shim which is designed to be combined and stacked with a flat shim as needed. Each U-shim and flat shim is an ¼” inch thick. When combined, they provide a total of ½ inch of height. Provided the pan is pre-pitched at a ¼ inch per foot, you can simply place CODA into the pan using U-shims for support if needed; see the video.

  9. Final Step – Setting CODA:
For instructions on how to set CODA into either a mortar bed or a Styrofoam pan, please see our instructional videos.

We hope your experience using the Colorado Offset Drain Attachment took some of the stress out of your shower expansion or relocation. We’d love to get your feedback and answer any questions you may have.
