IMPORTANT SAFETY AND PRODUCT INFORMATION

  • This device can be used by children aged 8+ and also disabled people, sensory and mentally handicapped people or people without knowledge or experience provided they stay under strict supervision or they have received sufficient instructions on how to use the device safely, and potential risks have been evaluated. Children shall not play with the device. Cleaning and maintenance by user shall not be done by children without surveillance.
  • Before using the collar, we strongly advise you to have your dog checked by your vet to ensure he is fit to wear a collar.
  • Do not use the collar with dogs that are not in good physical shape (i.e., cardiac problems, epilepsy) or have behavioural problems (aggressive dogs…).
  • Check your dog’s neck regularly as repeated rubbing of the contact points against the animal’s skin may cause irritation. If this happens, remove the collar until all signs of skin irritation have disappeared. Do not leave the collar more than 8 hours per day on your dog.
  • You can start using the collar with 6-month-old puppies that have already received some basic training (Stay, Sit or at least No).
  • Always start with the lowest level of stimulation and define the level from which your dog reacts by increasing gradually if necessary.
  • Do not hesitate to contact a professional trainer for any further advice.

Advice to obtain the best results
The owner’s involvement during the first use of the product is a key factor in obtaining the best results.
Do not leave your dog unattended with the collar on until he is used to wearing it and you are satisfied that it’s working correctly. You should ensure that the settings (barking detection sensitivity and operating mode) are adjusted correctly for your dog. Closely watch your pet during the first days’ use.
When your dog is barking, let the collar operate without interference. Any interference on your part could be taken as a sign of consideration and consequently barking would be an effective mean to have your attention attracted.
As soon as your dog stops barking, congratulate him (but not excessively) by stroking him, verbally flattering him, or giving him dry food so as to encourage him to behave himself.
Remember that barking can indicate some behavioural problems. The bark limiter collar will allow you to resolve problems caused by excessive barking.
If the problem persists when your dog is not wearing the collar, see your vet.

Contents of the product

  • 1 CANICALM ULTRA collar fitted with short contact points
  • 1 nylon strap
  • 1 3-V Lithium CR2 battery
  • 1 pair of long contact points
  • 1 neon test lamp
  • 1 screwdriver
  • 1 quick start guide

Description of the product

Activate/deactivate the collar

Activate:

  • unscrew the 4 screws of the battery cover.

  • Insert the battery (3 Volts Lithium CR2) paying attention to follow polarity indicated on the battery housing. A beep sound is emitted indicating the collar is ready for use.
If you do not hear any sound beep after inserting the battery, immediately remove it from its housing. Check the polarity before inserting it once again.

  • Check that the rubber seal is in its place in the groove of the battery cover.

  • Re-tighten moderately the 4 screws.

Deactivate: remove the battery from its housing.

Changing operating mode

In the factory, the collar is set at mode 2 (beep sounds + light stimulations).
To change the mode, you should proceed as follows:

  • The collar must be ready for use (battery in place).
  • Open the battery cover and find the button to change mode (See diagram).
  • Press the button using a pointed object (e.g. a screwdriver).
  • A series of sound beeps is emitted (from 1 to 4 beeps) indicating the selected mode. Keep pressing the button to run through modes.
  • Release the button when you have reached the mode you wish.
  • The collar will memorize your selected mode. Next time you will switch on the collar, your collar will be turned on to the last mode you previously selected.

The table below shows how the collar operates in each mode:

Number of beep sounds heard when switching mode Mode Operation
1 1 Beep sounds only
2 2 Beep sounds + light stimulations
3 3 Beep sounds + strong stimulations
4 4 Beep sounds + progressive stimulations

Setting the bark detection sensitivity

Setting the barking detection sensitivity is a very important preliminary operation.
This setting ensures detection of any barking and helps avoid unnecessary triggering.
The detection must therefore be sufficiently but not overly sensitive.
In the factory, detection sensitivity is set at the medium position (medium sensitivity).
To adapt the detection sensitivity to the barking strength of your dog, proceed as follows:

  • Remove the 4 screws from the battery cover.

  • Remove the battery cover.

  • Carefully turn the setting screw according to the sensitivity you require (See.
    Diagram below).
CAUTION: the adjustment system has a stop for both the minimum and maximum sensitivity. Turn delicately with the supplied screwdriver, without forcing.

  • Replace the battery cover and retighten moderately the 4 screws.

Checking and replacing battery

To check the battery condition, you have to press the operating mode push- button.
If the collar emits a continuous beep sound when you press the button, the battery is weak. Prepare to replace it. When the battery is completely exhausted, the product goes to safety mode, which means it is out of use. You need to replace the battery with a new one.
NOTE: due to greater use during your dog’s training, the first battery may not last as long as the following ones.
You need to replace the used battery by a new one of the same type (3 volts CR2 lithium battery). Proceed as follows:

  • Remove the 4 screws from the battery cover.

  • Remove the battery cover then remove the old battery.

  • Insert the new battery paying attention to the polarity indicated on the battery housing. A sound beep is emitted indicating the collar is ready to use.
If you do not hear any sound beep after inserting the battery, immediately remove it from its housing. Check the polarity before inserting it once again.

  • Replace the battery cover and retighten moderately the 4 screws.

The NUM’AXES Group advises to use the same type and same brand of batteries as the one supplied in your new purchased product. Other brands of batteries may not operate, or may not be completely compatible with your product.
You can purchase suitable batteries at any time on www.numaxes.com.
Changing the contact points
Two different series of contact points are supplied. The length of the contact points must be sufficient to have proper contact with the dog’s skin, enabling the device to operate correctly.
If you have a long-haired dog and the short contact points fitted to the collar in the factory are inadequate, remove and replace them with the long contact points supplied with the kit. A moderate manual screwing is sufficient (do not use any key).
Strap adjustment
The strap should be adjusted so that the contact points come right into contact with the dog’s skin in order to ensure good barking detection.
If the strap is too loose, the collar will not operate properly. Moreover, it might move around the dog’s neck and repeated rubbing of the contact points on the skin can cause irritation.
If the strap is too tight, the dog will have difficulties in breathing.
Guide d’utilisation CANICALM ULTRA- NUM’AXES Education – Avril 2024 – ind. A – 13/48
The strap is properly adjusted when you can insert two fingers between the strap and your dog’s neck.
Checking the device operates correctly

  • Before doing so, make sure that the collar is turned Off (battery removed from its housing).
  • Fix each wire of the neon test lamp under each contact points (unscrewing them lightly and the retightening them so as to pinch the test lamp wires).
  • Switch On the collar (turn the collar on mode 2, 3 or 4, thus you will be able to check the operation of beep sounds and stimulations).
  • Make a streaked object (ex: knife with teeth with sleeve isolated) slide on one of the electrodes (change the detection sensitivity if necessary).
  • The collar must emit beep sounds and the test lamp must light up (on mode 1, the test lamp will not light – mode without stimulations).

Safety feature: after being activated 5 times in quick succession, the collar will automatically go into safety mode (stand-by) for 15 seconds, before restarting itself normally.
Cautions for use

  • The collar is waterproof. In order to maintain water tightness, we recommend the replacement of the seal located in the collar at least once a year.
  • To prevent the collar from going off unintentionally, your dog should not wear a tag, metallic collar, or any other kind of collar together with the bark control collar.
  • Remove the battery from the collar if you are not using the device for 3 months or more.
  • Never leave a discharged battery in the collar: leakage could damage your product.

Maintenance

Do not clean the product using volatile liquids such as solvents. Use a soft cloth and neutral detergent.
