0% Wood Waste
We maintain 0% wastage throughout our manufacturing process, we compress shavings into briquettes which we use in our biomass boiler to heat our office, workshop and showroom and provide us with hot water.

INSTALLATION/FINISHING

Pick your side
Before you commence installation, make sure you identify which side you want to use for the face and which you use for the back. The face will have less imperfections. As wood is a natural product each side will vary with regards to knots and grain.

Sanding (Unfinished worktop only)
Before oiling your worktop we advise sanding both sides with an 80grit sand paper to get rid of any marks (ensure you do the full area so you get an even finish), then sand to 120 grit. This will leave a beautifully smooth finish that the oil can penetrate through.
Note: If you choose a pre-oiled worktop, there is no need to sand as above as this stage has already been completed.

Oiling (Unfinished worktop or maintenance)

  • It is important to oil both the front and back of your worktop prior to installation to protect it from moisture in the air and preventing it from bucking and bowing. Start on the back.
  • You can use any finish you like and follow the guidelines for that particular finish however the below method is for our recommended product…
  • Oil Plus 2C is a true oil of the newest generation thanks to its revolutionary binding. The product molecularly bonds with the wood fibres in the surface to be treated and thus protects and colours your wood in a single layer. This avoids overlaps and marks, and you get low consumption and long-lasting protection.

We recommend Rubio Monocoat oil plus 2C, as exceptionally durable, quality oil that only needs 1 coat! Combine this with component B – the Accelerator to ensure your worktop is touch dry within 24 hours and cured in 5 days!

Large range of colours available online

  • Colours and protects all interior wood in 1 layer
  • Safe & ecological: 0% VOC
  • Time & cost efficient
  • Natural look and feel for all wood types
  • Easy application & maintenance

OILING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Step1: Vacuum thoroughly and remove any dust residue with Cleaner.
  • Step 2: Wait until dry.
  • Step 3: Mix the Oil Plus 2C with the Accelerator (Part B)
  • Step 4: Spread a small amount of mixture to the surface using the beige or red scrubby pad and then massage the oil in.
  • Step 5: Let absorb for a few minutes. Wipe away all excess oil  with a cloth or white scrubby pad. Finish off with a cloth within max. 30 minutes. The surface should feel non-sticky! Submerge all used cloths in water.

Accelerator – Component B
(Comes with 130ml+ bottles of Oil Plus 2C as standard.) Add max 30 % Accelerator to oil and mix well!

Tips & Tricks

  • Do not dilute.
Pot life of mixture: 4 to 6 hours depending on ambient temperature and humidity.

  • Stirring regularly will stabilise the viscosity of the mixture.

Tips & Tricks (Oil Plus 2C)

  • Do not dilute.
  • Stir the product well before applying.
  • After application, the surface may appear slightly shiny. This will disappear after 2-3 cleans with Universal Soap or Surface Care.
  • The smoother the surface, the less oil and pigments will penetrate into the wood, resulting in a less coloured surface.
  • Our oils are developed with environmentally friendly ingredients however, some people may be allergic to certain elements. Therefore, we recommend wearing gloves when applying the A+B component in order to protect the skin.

MAINTENANCE

We recommend oiling your surface once a year to maintenance a beautiful finish. Rubio Monocoat offer a maintenance oil which provides a renewed look and protects it optimally again and makes it more resistant to liquids.

Tips & Tricks

  • Do not dilute
  • Stir the product well before use.
  • When using several containers, we recommended to mix them for an even result.
  • Maintenance with Oil Plus 2C in the original colour of application is recommended as soon as the treated surface starts to show too much wear.
  • Replace the Rubio Monocoat Oil removal cloth timely. If the cloth no longer absorbs sufficient oil, it is time to replace it.

REPAIRS
If the surface has marks and scratches you can easily spot repair by lightly sanding the area with 120 grit sandpaper (in a circular motion) and then reapply the oil in that area.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

  • STEP 1. Eliminate all dust from the surface.
  • STEP 2. Spray All Natural Wood cleaner spray or surface care on the worktop.
  • STEP 3. Rub dry with a microfibre cloth and let the surface dry.
  • STEP 4. Take the Universal Maintenance Oil and add the Oil Plus 2C component A in the same colour with which the surface was treated before. The correct ratio is 3 parts Universal Maintenance Oil to 1 part Oil Plus 2C (as provided in the packaging set). Mix thoroughly.
  • STEP 5. Apply a small amount of oil with a brush and afterwards spread out with a red Rubio Monocoat Scrubby pad. Preferably work in areas of 2 to 4 m² (areas which you can finish within ± 15 minutes, including the next step).
  • STEP 6. Allow to absorb for a few minutes and massage the oil into the wood with a white Rubio Monocoat Scrubby pad.
  • STEP 7. Wipe away all the excess oil with a Rubio Monocoat Oil removal cloth. The surface should look even.

STORING

Storing your worktop prior to installation.

  • TIME
Worktops rely on a secure fitting to units to avoid warping, for this reason it is best to install it as soon as possible. Avoid ordering too early and aim to have it delivered when you are ready to install it.

  • STORING
When storing for small periods of times always lie the worktop flat. Leaning your worktops against a wall or storing them vertically can cause the worktop to bend. Keep away from direct heat sources such as radiators, boilers, AGAS and regular direct sunlight.

  • WATER
If you have ordered an unfinished worktop, it is really important to avoid the worktop becoming wet until you have applied a substantial finish and let it cure.

EVERYDAY USE

Using your worktop

  • MOISTURE
Avoid getting it wet for the first 5 days after delivery if pre-finished or 5 days after oiling whilst the finish cures and hardens to make sure it is thoroughly protected.

  • SPILLAGES
Be sure to wipe away any spillages immediately with a clean dry cloth. Liquids shouldn’t be allowed to pool on the surface and stand for a length of time.

  • DIRECT CUTTING
Do not cut directly onto the worktop. Please place a chopping board or butcher’s block on top of the wood worktop to maintain its longevity.

  • DIRECT CONTACT
Do not place hot, wet or dirty pots and pans straight onto the worktop. The worktop needs extra protection against these. Most metal vessels (such as aluminium cans, iron, copper, or steel containers) can stain the amber so contact between the two should be avoided.

CLEANING
All purpose cleaner
We recommend using Rubio Monocoat All Natural Wood Cleaner Spray to preserve the natural beauty of the wood without damaging the finish.

Grease Remover
If you have a grease spot on a wood surface treated with Rubio Monocoat oil, apply the product immediately and the grease has no time to penetrate the wood and the stain will be removed.

Stain Remover
This kit helps remove all stains on oiled interior wood with no damage to your wood, protection or colouring.

COLOURS

  • Rubio Monocoat comes in a wide variety of finishes so you can be sure to find a colour that suits your room and style.
  • Don’t forget: The colours of linseed oil are shown differently on each wood type. We strongly recommend you test the colour on a small part first before finishing your entire project. 6ml pots are available should you wish to test a small area.
  • The colour Natural will give the look most similar to unfinished oak.

REVIEWS

  • The order process was very easy for my bespoke order. I was kept updated with progress of my order. The shelves and worktop look great.
    -Carol
  • The wood and craftsmanship is outstanding. They fit perfect and have changed my room. Service was excellent. Would purchase again.
    -Bree
  • I bought two full stave oak worktops and upstands. Living in the north of Scotland it was difficult to find somewhere that would deliver at a sensible price. Also, as I needed just over 2m in length it was difficult to find a solution where I wasn’t paying for a lot of wastage. Many suppliers would only supply in 3 or 4m lengths. A lot of products were out of stock
or people just wouldn’t deliver to Scotland. Traditional Beams were very flexible in creating bespoke worktops to exactly the size required at a reasonable price with quick delivery.
They were very responsive and communicated well, keeping us updated on progress and even sending pictures of the worktops in advance. We are happy with both the product and service we received and I am happy to recommend them.
    -Duncan
  • As an architect I look for excellent products and equally exquisite service! Traditional Beams offers exactly that. Catherine was absolute stellar and restless to sort a speedy delivery for quite a substantial order. Superb turn around and beautiful and high quality timber! Highly recommended!
    -Ana
  • Stunning natural oak worktop we fitted at the end of a quartz island to be used as butchers block. Size was accurate and quality is very high and is wearing well. Company friendly and efficient could not ask for more. Thank you!
