1. Installing Batteries:

  1. Open the battery compartment cover.

  2. Install two AA 1.5V batteries (available separately) as

2. Connecting to a Camcorder:

ZC-4

Thank you for purchasing an AODELAN product.
AODELAN ZC-4 contains a Remote Controller and a Receiver. It was especially developed to wirelessly operate compatible Sony camcorders from a distance. By simply connecting the Receiver to the REMOTE or LANC terminal (2.5mm) on the camcorder and turning on the Remote Controller, you can easily operate many of the camcorder’s functions wirelessly. Wired control of these functions can also be achieved by connecting the Remote Controller directly to the camcorder with the supplied remote cable. Wired control and wireless remote control can be performed simultaneously to enable simultaneous operation of multi camcorders.

Please read this user manual as well as the user manual provided with your camcorder which works with ZC-4 before use.

For your safety Before using your product, please read the following safety precaution carefully to ensure correct and safe use.
Do not disassemble or attempt to repair it. Do not use the product in the presence of flammable or explosive gas. The product is not dustproof, splash proof, nor waterproof. Make sure that no water, liquid, or dust can enter the product. Do not expose the product to hasty temperature changes in humid conditions as this could lead to condensation water in the unit. Do not expose the product to high temperature over 45 (e.g. left in a car trunk). Do not use organic solvents such as alcohol, benzine or paint thinner to clean the product. Do not connect the product to camcorders or other devices that are not compatible.

Getting Started

Connecting to a camcorder (Supports both wired and wireless connections)

( and / or ) will be displayed on the screen at the same time; When the status LED 2 (and / or 3) on the top of the Remote Controller lights up in green, you can operate the second (and/or the third) camcorder simultaneously through the Remote Controller.

Setting the shooting state of the camcorder For details, refer to the camcorder’s user manual.
Depending on the camcorder used, you may need to active the remote controller using the camcorder’s menu.

Canceling automatic adjustment of the camcorder’s shooting state. [Note] The switches used to turn on/off automatic adjustment of the shooting state on the camcorder vary depending on the camcorder (for example, FULL AUTO switch, AUTO/MANUAL switch). If the camcorder has a ZOOM switch, set it to SERVO or REMOTE mode. If using an interchangeable lens type camcorder with the supplied lens, set the focus ring to electronic control. If using a lens other than the supplied lens, focusing may not be supported from this unit. If the camcorder is an interchangeable lens type, set the IRIS switch on the lens to auto adjustment (AUTO).
Attaching to a pan rod
You can attach the Remote Controller to the pan rod of a tripod, or similar object, using the supplied attachment plate. When attaching the Remote Controller to a pan rod, place a non-stepped portion of the pan rod against the back of the Remote Controller.

[Notes] If using commercially available screws in the screw holes on the back of the unit, use M5 screws. Do not tighten the attachment plate screws more than required. Doing so may cause damage.

6. IRIS A/M key Press to toggle auto iris adjustment on/off.
7. IRIS adjustment knob Turn to adjust the iris. Pressing the center of the adjustment knob temporarily activates auto iris adjustment (PUSH AUTO IRIS). Auto iris adjustment stops when you remove your finger from the adjustment knob during PUSH AUTO IRIS.
[Note] The iris adjustment level obtained by the rotation and speed of the knob will vary depending on the menu setting of the Remote Controller as well as camcorder being used.
8. ND A/M key
If the connected camcorder has an electronically switchable ND filter auto adjustment function, press this key to toggle auto adjustment on/off.
9. ND adjustment knob
Turn to adjust the ND filter density.
[Notes] The ND filter of the camcorder must be set to an adjustable state (set to a position other than CLEAR or set to VARIABLE mode). For details, refer to the operating instructions for the camcorder. When [ND MODE] is set to [Dial] in the menu of Remote Controller, you can adjust the function assigned to the assignable dial of the video camera, instead of the ND filter. Camcorders that do not have an assignable dial or electronically switchable ND filter function cannot be controlled using this function.

10. FOCUS A/M key Press to toggle auto focus adjustment on/off.

11. FOCUS adjustment knob
Turn to adjust the focus. Pressing the center of the adjustment knob temporarily activates auto focus adjustment (PUSH AUTO FOCUS). Auto focus adjustment stops when you remove your finger from the adjustment knob during PUSH AUTO FOCUS
[Note] The focus adjustment level obtained by the rotation and speed of the knob will vary depending on the menu setting of the Remote Controller as well as camcorder being used.

12. ON/OFF switch Slide the switch to turn on/off the Remote Controller.

13. ZOOM lever
Turn left/right to adjust the zoom. [Note] If the camcorder has a ZOOM switch, set it to SERVO or REMOTE mode.
When the Remote Controller enters the setup menu, you can select the previous/next item by turning the ZOOM lever left/right.

14. REC START/STOP key

Press to start recording.

To stop recording, press the REC START/STOP key again.

During recording, corresponding status LED lights up in red, the number

19. ASSIGN key Press to recall the function assigned to the ASSIGN button of the camcorders. For details, refer to the operating instructions for the camcorder.

29. SELECT key You can change the mode of the gain recalled using the GAIN key. * Depending on the camcorder, you can change the gain by pressing the up/down arrow keys.
[Note] On camcorders with a GAIN lever switch, or similar switch, that has a switch position indicator, the setting will change to the switch position setting of the camcorder if the connection cable is disconnected and reconnected or the video camera is turned off and on again.
30. GAIN key Press to recall the gain setting configured on the camcorder.

31. WHT BAL key Press to set manual white balance adjustment and recall the setting on the camcorder. Press again to return to auto adjustment.
For details, refer to the operating instructions for the camcorder.

32. SHUTTER key
Press to turn off auto adjustment, and recall the shutter or shutter speed settings. You can change the shutter mode by pressing the up/down arrow keys.

  • Depending on the camcorder, the shutter change mode is recalled.

This connector is used for daisy chain connections. Connect to another Remote Controller to control the connected camcorders using two Remote Controllers.

6. USB Type-C connector

Used for firmware update (when necessary). Go to www.aodelan.net to download the latest firmware update package for ZC-4, update your ZC-4 to the latest firmware according to the provided update files. Can also be used to connect to an external power supply (5V) to power the Remote Controller.

2. Camera selector keys (wired connection)
Press to select the camcorders connected to the CAMERA1 to CAMERA3 connectors as the targets for remote control. You can select more than one camcorder. [Note] When the Remote Controller is connected to an MCX-500 Multi Camera Live Producer for remote control of camcorders from the MCX-500, camcorders that are not selected as the remote control target (corresponding status LED is not lit) are also remote controlled.
3. Wireless connection status LED
Display the wireless connection status of the Remote Controller. (The status display and description are the same as that of Part 1.)
4. Wireless connection selector key Press to select the camcorder connected to the Receiver as the target for remote control. You can select it simultaneously with the wired connected cameras.
5. HOLD key Press to toggle HOLD state on/off. Backlight of HOLD key lights up: HOLD state is on. Now, all operations on the Remote Controller except the ON/OFF switch are locked and the camcorder is no longer controlled by the Remote Controller.
[Note] Icon is displayed on the Remote Controller’s screen. The HOLD key backlight will blink when any function is operated on the Remote Controller.
No backlight for HOLD key: HOLD state is off.

20. THUMBNAIL key Press to display the thumbnail screen. Press again to dismiss the thumbnail screen.
21. SET & Arrow keys Use the arrow keys to move the cursor up/down/left/right on the menu screen of the camcorder or to change a value on an edit setting screen. Press the SET key to apply the selected item or to execute a function.

  • Left/right operation may not be applicable, depending on the camcorder being used. For details, refer to the operating instructions for the camcorder.
    22. MENU key Press to display the menu on the camcorder screen. Press again to dismiss the menu screen.
    23. DISPLAY key Press to toggle between the on-screen display (OSD) screens.
    24. CANCEL/BACK key Cancels a setting before it is applied, or moves one level up in the menu hierarchy.
    25. PRESET key Press to recall PRESET. For details about changing/switching settings, refer to the operating instructions for the camcorder
    26. A key Press to recall the setting stored in WB SET A (memory A).
    27. B key Press to recall the setting stored in WB SET B (memory B).
    28. WB SET key When a white balance setting is being configured for WB SET A or WB SET B, press the WB SET key to store the WB SET A or WB SET B setting, whichever is selected. For details, refer to the operating instructions for the camcorder.
    [Note] On camcorders with a PRESET/A/B lever switch, or similar switch, that has a switch position indicator, the setting will change to the switch position setting of the camcorder if the remote cable is disconnected and reconnected or the video camera is turned off and on again.

Connect to the camcorder’s REMOTE or LANC terminal. After the camcorder is turned on, the Receiver connected to the camcorder will automatically establish a wireless connection with the paired Remote Controller.

2. Status lamp
When the Receiver is connected to a camcorder that is powered on, the lamp indicates the wireless connection status of the Receiver and Remote Controller. Blinking green indicates that a wireless connection has been established with a Remote Controller. Blinking red indicates that no wireless connection is established with a Remote Controller. Now, you need to operate the Remote Controller to pair with the Receiver.

Connecting to Multiple Camcorders

Up to four camcorders can be connected to the Remote Controller simultaneously.

Connect the camcorder to the CAMERA1 to CAMERA3 connector via the remote cable, or connect the camcorder wirelessly via the Receiver, and then select the camcorders to control using the camera selector keys (or wireless connection selector key). You can select and control multiple camcorders simultaneously.
[Notes] Turn off each camcorder before connecting and disconnecting the camcorder. When controlling multiple camcorders simultaneously, the time taken for the camcorders to respond may not be the same. For example, when the REC START/ STOP key is pressed to start recording simultaneously, the actual recording start timing may differ by several frames.
Connecting in Daisy Chain

You can control the connected camcorders using two Remote Controllers by connecting another Remote Controller to the REMOTE connector of the Remote Controller connected to the camcorder.

1. Connect the Remote Controller 1 to the camcorder(s) (via wired connection(s) or wireless connection).

[Notes] This type of connection cannot be used if the camcorder used does not support the daisy chain function. For details about remote control functions supported by each camcorder, contact your Sony dealer. Only two Remote Controllers can be daisy-chained. Do not connect anything to the REMOTE connector on Remote Controller 2. Turn off each camcorder before connecting and disconnecting the camcorder. Do not connect any device other than AODELAN ZC-1, ZC-3 Remote Controller, ZC-4 Remote Controller or Hanpusen ZC-2 to the REMOTE connector.
