Goliath Triominos Card Game

Instructions

Objective

  • The objective of the game is to score 200 points over several games, although you could also use different point totals, depending on how long you want to play.

Setup

  • Before you start playing, make a list of the names of all the players so you can write down the points scored in each game.
  • Shuffle the deck of Triominos cards and deal them out as follows: If there are 2 or 3 players, deal out 8 cards to each player.
  • If there are 4 players, deal out 7 cards to each player. Place the remaining cards in a stack, face down.

Gameplay

The player with the highest Triomino card starts. The highest card is the 5-5-5 card, followed by the triple 4, triple 3, etc. The player who starts scores the sum of the three numbers on the card. The next player adds a Triomino card to the game. If the added card completes a figure (see examples in the diagrams), the player gets the points shown in the figure. If a player cannot play a card, he or she must draw a card from the stack. The drawn card can be played or saved for later, but a player may not draw more than 3 cards per turn. If all players pass, the game will be deadlocked. The player must then calculate the score of the cards they have, adding it to the numbers in the game. The player with the most points wins the game. Add the total of all the other players’ cards to the winner’s score.

End of Game

  • The first player to lay down all of his or her cards wins the game. The winner gets 25 bonus points, as well as the total points of the other players’ remaining cards.
  • If a player places a “bridge” when laying down a card, he or she earns 40 bonus points.
  • A player who forms a hexagon earns 50 bonus points. A player who manages to form 2 hexagons earns 60 bonus points. Forming 3 hexagons in one go entitles a player to 70 bonus points.

Introduction

The objective of the game is to score 200 points over several games, although you could also use different point totals, depending on how long you want to play.
Before you start playing, make a list of the names of all the players so you can write down the points scored in each game. Shuffle the deck of triomino cards and deal them out as follows: if there are 2 of you playing, deal out 9 cards to each player, and if there are 3 or 4 players, deal out 7 cards to each player. Place the remaining cards face-down in a stack.
The player with the highest triomino card starts. The highest card is the 5-5-5 card, followed by the triple 4, triple 3… The player who starts scores the sum of the three numbers on the card, plus a bonus of 10 points for starting off the game. If the highest card is triple 0, the player earns 40 points. If one player has both the highest triple and the triple 0 card, he or she can choose which card to start off the game. If, on the other hand, no one has a triple, the game is started by the player with the highest card, but he or she will not get any bonus points. The direction of play is clockwise. On his or her turn, each player must place a tile next to any of the tiles that have already been placed, matching a number on his or her tile to a number on one of the tiles that have already been placed, in any direction (as shown in figure 1).

If a player does not have a card to lay down, he or she must draw a card from the stack. The drawn card can be played or saved for later, but a player may not draw more than 3 cards per turn. If all players pass, the game will be deadlocked. The players must then calculate the score of the cards they are holding (by adding up the numbers). The player with the lowest number of points wins the game. Add the total of all the other players’ cards to the winner’s score.
The first player to lay down all of his or her cards wins the game. The winner gets 25 bonus points, as well as the total points of the other players’ remaining cards.

BONUS POINTS

  • If a player closes a “bridge” when laying down a card, he or she earns 40 bonus points (as shown in Figure 2).
  • A player who forms a hexagon earns 50 bonus points. A player who manages to form 2 hexagons earns 60 bonus points. Forming 3 hexagons in one go entitles a player to 70 bonus points (as shown in figure 3).
