HOW TO USE

Ideal Placement: If your nail is evenly curved across its surface the brace should be centered on the nail and span as much of your nail as possible.
The brace prefers a relatively flat surface for bonding each end. If your nail is deeply embedded on either side don’t try to apply the brace between your skin and the nail. Apply the brace only to exposed part of your nail. As your nail undergoes correction you’ll be able to increase the coverage of the brace with each new application.

Alternate Placement: If your nail is more highly curved or sharply curved in one particular area, alter the position of the brace as described below:

  • Reduce the coverage of the brace, making it shorter to avoid a sharply curved portion of your nail during the initial applications.
  • Position the brace forward or backward where your toenail is less curved or more evenly curved.
  1. Gently place the hooks on both sides of your ingrown nail. Tighten the grip by rotating the corrector’s handle until both sides of the nail are equally flattened. If you feel pain during this step or you could not apply the corrector, continue to step 3.

  2. Dry the affected nail for 40-60 seconds with a hair dryer, keeping the corrector on during the duration of this step. In case you don’t have the hair dryer, hold the corrector on for 4-5 minutes. This will help to keep the nail flatten for the duration of following steps.

  3. Visualize how the brace will be positioned on your toenail. Do not cut or bond the brace yet. There are two steps in bonding the brace: bonding the first end, then the second end. Position the first end on the side of the toenail most painful or ingrown. Only this end of the brace is required to lay flat against your toenail during the first bonding step. The angle of the brace will vary depending on the curve on this side of your toenail. Take note of this angle for future steps.

  4. File the surface of your toenail paying particular attention to where the brace will be applied. This removes loose layers of skin and nail that the adhesive can’t bond to. Smooth ridges and high spots to minimize gaps underneath the brace.

  5. Wipe the entire surface of the nail, paying special attention to the bond areas. Allow to dry.

  6. The brace is bonded only at each end.
Apply adhesive to one end of the brace by gently squeezing the tube and touching the nozzle to the brace.
The diameter of the adhesive puddle should be the width of the brace and only as deep as the thickness of the brace – see illustration.
Remove excess adhesive by lightly blotting it with a cotton swab.
Do not let the adhesive touch any other part of your body, it will bond immediatel.

  7. Once in contact with your toenail the curing begins quickly, so you must get brace placement right immediately.
Position the first end of the brace (adhesive end) where you pre-fit it in Step 1 using the opposite end of a cotton swab.
Hold the brace motionless for 30 seconds. Release and allow the adhesive to continue curing for at least 2 minutes. If this side of the toenail is sharply curved you may need to follow the application adjustments found under The brace doesn’t bond or The brace fractures on the back.

  8. Without adhesive, bend the second end of the brace to the opposite side of your toenail to find its correct length. Carefully trim it to length with clippers while being careful not to stress the bond. If the first end detaches during this step refer to the problem solving section below. You can reuse the same brace by filing off the adhesive, beginning again at Step 3.

  9. Apply adhesive underneath the second end of the brace the same way you did the first end. Before placing the cap on the adhesive make sure the tip is dry otherwise they will bond to one another.
Screw the cap on tightly to prevent leaks.

  10. With one hand, press the center of the brace down against the top of the toenail to ensure there are no gaps underneath it.
With the other hand and the opposite end of a cotton swab press the second end against your toenail and hold it motionless for at least 1 minute. Release.
If the first end detaches during this step you can reuse the same brace by filing off the adhesive, beginning again at Step 3.

  11. File any sharp edges that might snag your clothing. Make sure the ends of the brace do not extend beyond the sides of your toenail, this can cause pain.
File down the ends of the brace if this occurs. Shoes and socks can be worn immediately.
Discontinue foot soaking lotions and topical treatments like ointment or antiseptics, these will weaken the adhesive and cause early detachment.
Showering and light swimming are fine.

For best results we recommend wearing the dry-fit brace for 10-14 days, making sure to always keep them covered with a protective toenail cap.
