IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Please read these instructions be fore using your Flowtron Insect Killer and keep for future reference.
- Do not mount unit on house, deck or other structures or near gas, oil or other flammable materials
- To avoid the risk of fire, clean dead insects and insect debris from the unit frequently.
- Never insert fingers or any foreign object into the unit while it is connected to an electrical outlet.
- Always disconnect electrical power before servicing, cleaning, handling or disassembling unit.
- Always disconnect electrical power before re-lamping. Use only Flowtron replacement bulbs type BF-150, maximum 40 watts.
- Do not clean this product with water or any other liquid or place it where it can fall into water. Do not clean unit with a water spray or the like.
- For outdoor residential use only. Store indoors when not in use, out of reach of children
- Do not abuse power cord. Never carry unit by its cord or yank cord to disconnect from receptacle. Keep power cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges. Repair or replace damaged power cords.
- Appropriate extension cords and devices for retaining an extension cord connection to the insect killer power cord are available at your local hardware or home supply store, usually orange or yellow in color.
- Use only three-wire extension cords which have three prong grounding type plugs and three-pole receptacles which accept the products plug. Replace or repair damaged cords.
- Outdoor extension cords must be used with insect killers intended for outdoor use. Use extension cords marked SJW-A, SJEW-A or SJTW-A and tagged “suitable for use with outdoor appliances’: The electrical rating of the extension cord must be as great as the electrical rating of the insect killer.
- CAUTION : To minimize the risk of some UV exposure keep continuous human activity six feet away from illuminated unit.
PLACEMENT:
Model MC-9000 is recommended for areas up to two acres. Place the unit about
25 feet away from areas intended for human activity, between the source of
insects and the area to be protected. Hang the unit approximately seven feet
above the ground, out of reach of children, pets and animals.
WHY 25′:
- The 25′ recommendation is based on the fact that natural pheromones that humans expel, such as carbon dioxide and perspiration are always more attractive to insects than any bug zapper/ultra-violet light. So by placing the unit about 25′ away from human activity you are assured that the insects will be drawn away from you and towards the unit.
- The height placement of 6′ to 8′ off the ground is based on the average flight range of most insects.
INSTALLATION
- Unpack the unit and save packaging material for offseason storage.
- Select a location using the guidelines listed above.
- Hang the unit from a sturdy mounting surface such as a pole, tree or other free standing object.
- Plug the power cord into a compatible extension cord rated for outdoor use. The ultraviolet bulbs will light within a few seconds and the unit will emit a bluish glow.
- The MC-9000 is designed for outdoor use and will withstand inclement weather. If excess arcing occurs during heavy rain, and is objectionable, just disconnect power.
INSTALLING THE MOSQUITO AT TRACTANT CARTRIDGE:
A Flowtron Octenol Mosquito Attractant cartridge is included with this unit.
U.S. Government and university researchers have demonstrated that Octenol, a
component of respiration, is effective in attracting many species of
mosquitoes and biting flies. Your insect killer uses an exclusive slow-release
Octenol cartridge, MA- 1000, which increases the effectiveness of the unit to
lure mosquitoes and biting flies into the killing grid.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE :
-
Remove the cartridge from the sealed pouch and peel the protective cover from the face of the cartridge.
Avoid touching the openings in the cartridge and always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after contact. See illustration. -
Press the one cartridge firmly into either of the three bulb retainer openings at the bottom of the unit. Install with the cartridge openings facing downward. Use the enclosed double face tape to secure the cartridge in the location specified. See illustration.
OPERATION
- When your insect killer is ON, it will produce the heat and convective airflow to vaporize the lure and disperse it at the proper rate per hour for maximum effectiveness. For best results, replace the lure every 30 days.
- Replacement lures, MA-1000, are available at your retail dealer or on line at www.flowtron.com.
MAINTENANCE
- Cleaning:
- Your insect killer is equipped with self-cleaning killing grids and require no special maintenance other than cleaning dead insects and insect debris from within the unit. To avoid the risk of fire this should be done frequently using a small brush or a blower such as a portable hair dryer, or the exhaust attachment of a vacuum cleaner.
- CAUTION:
Be sure to unplug the unit before cleaning. To avoid the risk of electrical shock, do not clean the insect killer with a water spray or the like.
BULB REPLACEMENT:
Replace bulb(s) with Flowtron type BF-150, maximum 40 watts.
- Disconnect unit from its electrical source.
- Remove three screws holding bulb retainer plate at base of unit as shown. See back page of owner’s manual part No. 23.
- Pull bulb down, out of socket.
- Insert replacement bulb into socket.
- Replace bottom cover making sure that actuator pin is located in proper position and secure with three screws.
NOTICE :
Ultraviolet or “black light “is invisible to the eye, and its ability to
attract insects diminishes over time.
Therefore, although the bulb appears to be functioning it should be replaced
every season to maintain optimal “black light” effectiveness and attraction.
