Sauna Base Preparation

Make sure the base for your sauna is level with a slight slope to the back for drainage. A solid base for your sauna is recommended and can be made from concrete pad, wood deck, crushed stone, or patio stone/paver blocks. It is recommended to build a base larger than required to provide a sitting area for cooling off during your sauna session.

Cabin Assembly

The front and back pieces will be marked where each of the base supports will be placed. 2 Supports on each end and 3 centered across the base. Repeat this process for all 7 supports. 2 supports on either end and the remaining 3 centered on marks.

Canadian Timber Granby Cabin Assembly Instructions

Sauna Base Preparation
Make sure the base for your sauna is level with a slight slope to the back for drainage.
A solid base for your sauna is recommended and can be made from any of the following.

It is recommended to build a base larger than required to provide a sitting area for cooling off during your sauna session.

• Start the assembly of your Granby Cabin by laying out the front and back base plates and the 7 – base supports.
• The front and back pieces will be “marked” where each of the base supports will be placed.
• 2 Supports on each end and 3 centered across the base.
• Insert 3 – 2 ½” (64mm) screws into the end of each base stave.
• Repeat this process for all 7 supports.
• 2 supports on either end and the remaining 3 centered on “marks”.

• To start the assembly of the floor, locate the stave that is labelled “ Floor Starter”
• Ensure the “floor Starter” stave is flush with the inside of the front and side base plates.
• Secure with 2 – 2 ½” (64mm) screws per support.
• Align the next floor stave up to the edge of the first one and tap the tongue into the groove.
  Once it is even with the first stave, secure it using 2- 2 ½” (64mm) screws into the supports as in the previous step.

• Repeat this process until all the floor staves have been placed.
• Place 3 -3” (76mm) screws into each of the side supports.
• Locate the wall stave labelled “Door”.
• Fasten the front starter door stave with 2 – 3” (76mm) screws to secure it to the floor.

• Repeat this process for the rear starter stave.

• Place one of the wall staves across the front and rear of the sauna and using the provided “hit block” tap it so the groove goes tight into the starter staves.

• Insert a 5” (127mm) screw into the notch at each end to secure it to the starter stave below.
  Repeat on opposite side.

• Now place a full length stave at the rear of the sauna and tap the tongue and groove together to make sure it is tight and secure with a 5” (127mm) screw into the notch at either end.

• Continue with the front wall by placing one of the short wall staves on both ends and tapping them so the groove goes tight on to the front starter stave and secure it with a 5” (127mm) screw into each notch.
• Place another wall stave across the front and rear of the sauna on each side and using the provided “hit block” tap it so the groove goes tight into the stave below it. Secure it with a 5” (127mm) screw into each notch.
• If you notice a gap between the staves at anytime, you can use a 5” (127mm) screw in the middle of the stave to close the gap.
• Place another full length stave at the rear of the sauna and tap the tongue and groove together to make sure it is tight and secure with a 5” (127mm) screw into the notch at either end.

• Repeat the process with 1 of the short wall staves on each side on the front of the sauna.
• Continue alternating the side wall staves and the front and back wall staves one more row and then insert the door in between the front wall staves. Once the door is in place, return to the process of installing the staves by alternating from the side staves to the front and back securing in each of the notches.
• When you reach the top of the door, locate the stave labelled door. (this will have the notch cut out) Secure it to the wall staves below in the same manner as the other staves.
• Place the angled side wall staves ensuring the angle is sloped down towards the outside of the sauna. Secure with a 5” (127mm) screw in each notch.

• Place the gable ends onto the front and rear walls and tap tightly into the staves below then secure with 5” (127mm) screws into the ends in the pre drilled holes.
• Place the center roof support beam into the slots on the top of the triangle pieces.
• Secure each end with a 3” (76mm) screw on each side of each gable.
• Now fasten the bottom wall stave on every side of the sauna to the floor staves using 2 ½” (64mm) screws.(3 per side)

Roof Assembly

• To start the assembly of the roof, locate the 2 roof starter pieces.
  This is 2 boards wide with a notch cut out.

• Align the notch with the edge of the triangle pieces and use 2 – 3” (64mm) screws on each end and 5 – 3” screws from the roof board into the side wall.

• Start placing the roof staves going up the roof and tap into each other then secure with 2 – 3” (76mm) screws into each end. If you notice a gap between the roof staves at anytime, you can use a 5” (127mm) screw in the middle of the stave to close the gap.

• Use the thinner roof stave to finish the roof on this side. Secure to the gable ends with 2 – 3” (76mm)screws and 5 – 5” (127mm) screws into the previous stave. Repeat the process for the other side of the roof.

• Secure the front trim pieces to the roof staves on either side with 3 – 2 ½” (64mm) screws per trim piece ensuring they are flush to the roof. Repeat on the back side of the sauna.
• Place one of the long metal trim pieces on the side of the roof and secure with 6 of the included short black screws.( 3 on the face and 3 from underneath) Repeat on the back side of the sauna.
• Place the metal trim pieces and secure with 6 black screws. ( 3 on the face and 3 from underneath) Repeat on other side. Repeat on the back side of the sauna.
• Start applying the metal shingles by sliding the shingle under the front metal trim piece and flush with the edge of the side trim and then secure using the included roofing screws. Screw the shingle to the roof at the bottom of each ridge.

• Overlap the panels one ridge and continue securing to the roof with a full shingle then a half shingle.
• Repeat the above step with the 2nd and 3rd row of shingles. For the 3rd row, use the thinner shingles. Repeat the process for the other side of the roof.
• Remove the adhesive backing of the M-seal and apply it to the inside edges of the roof ridge cap.
• Place the roof ridge cap under the front and back trim pieces. Secure it on both sides with roofing screws in every other ridge.

DOOR Assembly

• Install the outer door handle (small) at the desired height using 2 – 2 ½” (64mm) screws in the pre-drilled holes.
• Install the inner door handle (large) horizontally at the desired height. Ensure the handle is level and secure using 2 – 2 ½” (64mm) screws in the pre-drilled holes.
• Install 3 – 3” (76mm) screws centered on each side of the door frame to secure the door to the wall staves.
• For the side with the door, use the middle hinge on the top and bottom with the 3rd screw centered between them.

Bench Assembly

• Start the assembly of your benches by placing the 2 tier bench support along the wall.
• Using a pencil, trace the top and front of the upper and lower bench.
• Mount one of the wall mount bench brackets flush to the line on the upper bench and secure with 3 – 2 ½” (64mm) screws. Repeat for the lower bench. To reduce the risk of splitting, pre drill the mounts.
• Repeat process on opposite side of sauna,
• Place the top bench onto the supports and secure with 2” (51mm) screws.
• Place the screws between the bench slats to make them less visible.
• Align the bench supports to the slats on bottom of bench.
• Ensure bench support is square and secure with 2” (51mm) screws from the bench into the support.
• Again, place the screws into between the bench slats to make them less visible.

• Repeat the process for the bottom bench.
• Screw the bench supports to the floor and back wall using 2” (51mm) screws.

MAINTAINING YOUR SAUNA AFTER INSTALLATION

Interior
It is recommended to vacuum or sweep out the inside of your sauna frequently to remove dirt and other debris. Under normal conditions, a slight wash of the floor and benches with warm soapy water several times a year will maintain its cleanliness. Leisurecraft offers a sauna room cleaner that can be used pure or diluted at a 4-1 ratio. Simply spray and wipe!
You can use a sheet of fine grit sandpaper or a low-pressure wash to remove more stubborn stains or for a deeper cleaning of the interior of your sauna.

Never use ammonia or harsh cleaners as they can turn the wood gray.

Water Seepage
Some minor water seeping into the sauna is expected and normal for an outdoor sauna. If your sauna is properly installed, you should not have water dripping in, but you should expect some water seepage, especially on the top and sides of the sauna.
This is due to the porous characteristics of the wood and to the ball-and- socket profile design of the staves.
Water Seepage will not harm the sauna. The moisture will evaporate once you turn on the heater and the sauna heats up.
If the water marks are bothersome, they can be easily removed with a light sanding (80 or 100 grit)

Exterior
Depending on the humidity and weather conditions in your area, the cedar will either shrink or expand based on the amount of moisture absorption. The desired effect is to have the cedar expand into the bands therefore making the sauna staves much tighter. Over time the lumber will weather naturally as a result of sun and rain, it will change into a weathered grey colour. This natural weathering will not harm the wood or impair the sauna’s performance.

• Leisurecraft warrants our Canadian Timber Collection Saunas against defects in materials and workmanship under normal/residential use for a period of three (3) years, as applicable, from the date of receipt of the product by the original end-user consumer.
• This warranty does not apply to normal wear and tear and/or natural weather conditions. This warranty does not cover regular required maintenance of the sauna, (eg. Tightening bands on the barrels, cleaning or staining the sauna)
• Refer to your sauna assembly manual for maintenance guidelines.
• This warranty does not cover misuse or negligence and the manufacturer, and associated retailers are not liable for any injury or damage caused by the product.
• This warranty is a parts only warranty and any service or labor costs would not be considered as part of the 3-year warranty.
