Description

The Z-WaveTM Control Insert allows the user to control and monitor a Swidget Wiring Device. Users can use the various available Swidget Inserts to create sensor-based automation, where air quality, temperature, humidity, and pressure conditions can trigger actions in Swidget wiring devices, send notifications, and more. ZWave is a standardized mesh network protocol used by many devices and hubs. Swidget certification to this standard means compatibility with other Z-Wave-certified devices or hubs. Please consult your Z-Wave controller/hub manufacturer for instructions on how to add a new Z-Wave device. This product can be operated in any Z-Wave network with other Z-Wave- certified devices from other manufacturers. All non-battery-operated nodes within the network will act as repeaters regardless of vendor to increase the reliability of the network.

Features

  • Remote ON/OFF control via external Z-Wave controller/hub.
  • Manual ON/OFF control via front panel push button.
  • Instantaneous W and kWh consumption for host wiring device.1
  • Independent meter reports for each receptacle when used with a Swidget 15A or 20A outlet.

Swidget Wiring Devices

The Insert must be installed in a Swidget Wiring
Device to operate. The following Wiring Devices are available:

  1. S16009WA – Auxiliary Control Switch
  2. S16008WA – 20/40/60 Control Switch
  3. SD3002WA – Dimmer Switch
  4. S16001WA – On/Off Switch
  5. R1015SWA – 15A Outlet
  6. R1020SWA – 20A Outlet

The final features and functionalities will depend on your selection of the Insert + Wiring Device combination.

IMPORTANT

This Insert must only be installed and used with an approved/certified Swidget Wiring Device.
Usage with any other devices is not permitted and will result in the warranty becoming void.

WARNING

  • While not required, it is recommended to avoid any risk of shock or death, turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse, and test that the power is off before installing or removing any Insert.
  • Not for use to control medical or life support equipment.
  • For INDOOR use only: 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F).
  • Insert can only be installed in one orientation. Rear alignment pins prevent incorrect installation. Do not forcibly install Insert.
  • Do not use Z-Wave devices to control electric heaters or any other appliances that may present a hazardous condition due to unattended or unintentional or automatic power-on control.
  • Requires a certified Z-Wave hub for operation.
  • Double-check any external Z-Wave settings for accuracy before using them.
  • This device complies with the Z-Wave standard of open-air, line-of-sight transmission. Actual performance in a home depends on the number of walls and obstacles between the Insert and other Z-Wave devices/hubs.
  • This device must be used in conjunction with an S2 Security Enabled Z-Wave Controller to fully utilize all implemented security functions.

Installation

CAUTION

  • It is recommended to turn off the power at the circuit breaker or fuse and to test that the power is off before installing or removing an insert.
  1. This Insert is to be installed in a Swidget Wiring Device ONLY.
  2. Orient the Insert to line up with the pins in the Wiring Device cavity. NOTE: alignment pins will prevent incorrect installation.
  3. Push Insert into the Wiring Device cavity until the two side latches engage.
  4. Re-enable power to the circuit breaker.
  5. For a first-time installation or after an Insert reset, the Insert requires network ADD pairing/joining (see below).
  6. For Inserts being moved, the Insert will power up with the previous location settings. For any required adjustments, consult the manual of the connecting Z-Wave controller / hub.

Association Groups

An Association Group in Z-Wave technology is a list of linked devices that allows direct communication between them, bypassing the need for a hub or controller. Each group, or set of devices, is linked with a specific event, such as motion detection. The device initiating the communication, known as the “source,” can send commands to the “target” devices within the group. The number of Association Groups a Swidget Insert can support will vary depending on the Insert features and the Swidget Wiring Device it is installed in. Each association group can support up to 5 targets (nodes). Please refer to the Swidget Z-Wave Product Manual for additional information.

Basic Command Class Support

If the Z-Wave Insert registers as a Binary Switch Device Type in a non-multi- channel environment, then the Basic Command Class functions are mapped to the Binary Switch Command Class functions.
If the Z-Wave Insert registers as a Binary Switch Device Type in a multi- channel environment, then the Basic Command Class functions are mapped to the Binary Switch Command Class functions for Endpoint 1 (the Root node). For Endpoint 2, no mappings exist for the Basic Command Class, so any Basic Commands received by Endpoint 2 will be ignored, and no report will be generated. If the Z-Wave Insert registers as a Multilevel Switch Device Type, then the Basic Command Class functions are mapped to the Multilevel Switch Command Class functions.
