Instruction Manual

Congratulations on the purchase of the new Omegon® Dew Controller. This PWM based controller has two RCA outputs to connect two heating bands. PMW technology allows extended operating times as it saves battery power when compared to traditional systems. The heating bands (not supplied) can be used with a myriad of items such as eyepieces, telescopes, finder scopes and other accessories that are sensitive to condensation.

Getting Started.

The controller with its 1.5 metre cable and the cigarette car socket plugs to any power supply which is rated DC 12V. Start by plugging the socket to a suitable power supply. Rotate the potentiometer (0-100%) so that the red LED lights on. If the LED fails to light at all, please check the condition of the built-in fuse. Remove the fuse by unthreading the fuse cap. This will expose the fuse. Replace the fuse if necessary. Do not use different fuses from the standard 8A rate. The fuse protects the circuit from overloads and short- circuits. It protects the controller and the heating bands too. When connecting bands to the RCA outputs, make sure not to exceed the indicated current of 8A. This is the total allowed current. One RCA can be 1A and the other 7A, as long as the total does no exceed 8A. Because the controller uses a PWM current control technology, the current supplied to the heating bands usually does not exceed 2A, even with the long bands used with large aperture telescopes. The power regulation applies to both RCA outputs, so when the potentiometer is regulated to a certain power (like 75) the output is applied to both outputs.

Power regulation.

To regulate the power: set the potentiometer to 50%. The heating bands usually work at their full potential at this power. For cold-humid nights 100% power may be required to allow quick removal of any dew and condensation. Re-set power if necessary to get maximum battery life. Use the supplied Velcro® strip to attach the controller box to any surface if necessary.
