Installation Steps

  1. Consult with a local engineer to determine the engine year needed to meet emissions regulations.
  2. Acquire the necessary parts as listed above.
  3. Follow specific instructions for engine and transmission model codes.
  4. Install engine mounts according to chassis variant requirements.
  5. Connect M57 Conversion Wiring harness for essentials.
  6. Adapt the BMW pedal position sensor to the Nissan Patrol throttle pedal assembly.
  7. Install upgraded transmission cooler and TB45 radiator.
  8. Set up a cooling fan system based on preference.
  9. Install Power Steering Kit, intercooler, and piping.
  10. Custom fabricate dump pipe crossover if needed.
  11. Add optional components like rocker cover breather plate, exhaust manifold heat shield, or EGR delete.

  • Q: Is the EGR delete suitable for on-road use?
    • A: The EGR delete is recommended for OFF-ROAD USE ONLY to comply with regulations.
  • Q: Can the OE M57N exhaust manifold be used without issues?
    • A: The OE M57N exhaust manifold tends to crack; consider repair or purchase an aftermarket cast steel exhaust manifold for durability.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Please check with your local engineer regarding what year engine you will need, as it will need to meet certain emissions regulations.

First things first, engine and transmission.

  • 2004-2006 E53 X5 or 2007-2009 E70 X5
  • The model code of transmission will need to end with the suffix “X”
    • Eg, 6HP26x (E53) – 6HP28x (E70)

PARTS

  • Transfer case adaptor
  • BMW AWD (suffix ‘X’) ZF to Patrol transfer case
  • Engine mounts
    • M57N to ZD rails will require RHS mount to be welded to the chassis (unless high mount turbo is used)
    • M57N2 to ZD rails can be bolt-in
    • All other chassis variants (TD, TB, RD) engine mount posts will need to be removed and fitted with weld-in mounts
    • All Fusion Fab industry mounts utilize OE spec engine mount insulators
  • Plug and Play conversion wiring harness
    • ZD30di vehicles (Up to and including 2006)
    • Tacho correction, MIL lamp, engine cooling fan output, reverse light functionality, and more. See our shop or contact us to find out more.
    • ZD30crd vehicles ( 2007 + )
    • CANBUS controls various items around the vehicle such as tacho, coolant temp, MIL, and AC just to name a few.
    • Our Plug and play harness corrects this and allows FULL functionality of all aforementioned items plus more. See our shop or contact us to find out more.
    • Some inclusions with our Plug and play conversion wiring harness’
    • Gear position indicator, as standard.
    • Engine cooling fan output trigger, controlled over CANBUS to a simple analog trigger, ready to wire straight into any relay configuration.
    • Reverse light functionality. The CANBUS module picks up gear position over the CAN and allows us to convert that directly into the vehicle’s reverse light circuit.

  • M57 Conversion Wiring
    • A basic conversion harness that has the bare essentials to get an M57N/ M57N2 running.
    • Thus a service is offered as a cost-effective option, compared to the plug-and-play.
  • Pedal position sensor adaptor
    • Allows BMW pedal position sensor to be adapted to Nissan Patrol throttle pedal assembly
    • only works with ZD30di or RD28 pedal assemblies
    • Nissan Patrol ZD30 CRD Pedal assembly
  • ECU immobiliser off and remap
    • Ecu requires an emulator for the immobilizer bypass, whilst this is being complete, you have the option to remap ECU to approx.
    • 260-280 HP E53 M57N
    • 300 HP M57N2
  • upgraded transmission cooler
    • Bar and plate construction
  • TB45 radiator
    • Adrad or Koyo OE equivalent
  • Cooling fan setup
    • Thermo fans
    • We have aluminum fan shrouds to suit the GU TB45 radiator and twin 16” thermo fans, coupled with our plug-and-play wiring harness for seamless operation.
    • CANBUS Module allows for thermo fan relay trigger.
    • An aftermarket fan controller is another option to control thermos fans.
    • Clutch fan
    • Standard M57 clutch and fan can be used for cooling and will benefit from a fan spacer to push the fan forward.
    • An upgrade is to use the M62 V8 4.4i fan and hub, which may still benefit from a fan spacer
    • The use of an RD28 fan shroud or custom fan shroud is required in this configuration
  • Power Steering
    • Fusion Fab Industries Power Steering Kit
  • Intercooler and piping
    • Fusion Fab Industries is currently working on a bolt-in system.
    • Or custom fabrication
  • Dump pipe cross over to align with Patrol exhaust system

    • Fusion Fab Industries has dump pipe available for M57N2 engines
  • Rocker cover breather plate
    • When the factory M57 airbox is removed from the rocker cover, the engine breather system vents to the atmosphere directly above the hot exhaust manifold.
    • This plate allows the connection of fittings and hose to route into a catch can and the intake system of the engine.
    • 30D VARIANT ONLY
  • Exhaust manifold heat shield
    • this will depend on your engineer, some do not like exposed hot exhaust manifolds
    • Does add bling
  • EGR delete (OFF-ROAD USE ONLY)
    • can be added after engineering if you choose to do so.
  • Factory exhaust manifold
    • The OE M57N pressed stainless steel exhaust manifolds tend to crack, you can have repaired or purchase an aftermarket cast steel exhaust manifold.
    • The OE M57N2 exhaust manifold is cast iron construction, no need to change it.
  • Swirl Flaps
    • M57N2 ONLY
  • VNT Relocation
    • E70 M57N2 requires the VNT actuator to be relocated when fitting into Patrol while maintaining OE turbo location.
    • An 80-series steering coupling is required to be fitted.
