Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How often should I add salt to the brine tank?

A: Salt should be added to the brine tank based on the water
softener’s usage and water hardness levels. It is recommended to
check and refill the salt level regularly to ensure optimal
performance.

Q: Can I use any type of salt in the water softener?

A: It is recommended to use high-purity salt specifically
designed for water softeners to prevent potential issues with

b. Open the bypass inlet VERY SLOWLY (Fig. 1). Do NOT fully open. Opening the bypass inlet too quickly will result in media being expelled from the unit and into plumbing lines. The valve will be in the BA. WA. (backwash) position. Purging the air may take longer than the backwash cycle time. Disconnect the system from power so that the valve will remain in the BA. WA. position.

STEP 4. PROGRAM SETTINGS
a. Calculate Hardness and Compensated Hardness To program your water softener, you will first need to calculate total hardness in grains per gallon (gpg). The numbers you need can be found in your municipality’s most recent water quality report, or a water analysis report generated by a home test kit or water analysis professional.
If your report or test expresses the hardness level (sometimes expressed as CaCO3) in parts per million (ppm) or milligrams per liter (mg/L), divide that number by 17.1 then round up to the nearest whole number to get the grains per gallon number. For example, if your hardness number is 276 ppm or mg/L, the calculation would be: 276 ÷ 17.1 = 16.14, which rounds up to 17.
17 gpg would be your hardness number.
Now you will need to calculate compensated hardness. Referring to your test report, multiply iron (in ppm or mg/L) by 4. Round the result up to the nearest whole number. Multiply manganese (in ppm or mg/L) by 8. Round the result up to the nearest whole number. Add those 2 numbers to the hardness number to get your total hardness number.

b. Set Time of Day Press until TIME flashes. Press or to adjust time. Press to set time.

c . Set Hardness Press until HARDNESS flashes. Press or until your calculated total hardness number is reached (Min 1/Max 199). Press to set total hardness.

d. Set Number of People Press until PEOPLE flashes. Press or until number of people in household is reached (Min 1/Max 9). Press to set people and complete programming.

STEP 5. ADD SALT TO BRINE TANK
Add 80 to 100 lb. of water softener salt to brine tank. The unit will automatically fill with water to the correct level when it regenerates.
