MACE CORD WRAPPING INSTRUCTIONS

WRAPPING:

  • Lay the cord folded in half so both ends meet. Extend one end to be 12˝ longer than the other (see example below)
  • On a soft surface, place the mace in front of you. Start approximately 5.5″ down from the bottom of the mace head to begin the tight wrap.

TIGHT WRAP:

  • Begin the Tight Wrap by keeping the short side of the cord alongside the mace as you wrap the long side of the cord over the short side.
  • Wrap the cord about 5 times around the Mace shaft and lock it at the bottom by bringing the short side over the long side. (below)
  • You are now ready to start the main Crossovers.

CROSSOVER WRAP:

  • To create the Crossovers, bring each cord to the front side of the mace (like you are going to begin a braid). Create an “X” by bringing one cord over the other. As the cords wrap around to the back of the mace, create another “X” on the backside.
  • Make sure that the cord that was on top of the first crossover is now on the bottom. (See images above) Repeat this pattern of creating Crossovers down the mace alternating which cord is on top.
  • You will need to clear the cording as you go, hold both sides of the cord with one hand, and clear the cording with the other hand after every second wrap. Remember to keep tension on the cords at all times but do not pull the tassels.
  • Check to make sure the top and bottom Crossovers are the same distance apart, approximately 2.5˝ – 3˝.
  • Stop the Crossovers about 8˝ to 9˝ from the bottom of the mace and begin doing the Tight Wrap as you did at the top section.
  • If you have a lot of extra cord, wrap one end of the cord in one direction and the other cord end wrap around the other direction. Leave enough of the cord to do 2-3 knots at the bottom.
  • If one end is much longer than the other, you may need to retry from the beginning.
  • If one end is just a little longer than the other, wrap the longer end of the cord around the mace, then finish with 2-3 knots at the bottom.
