Product Usage Instructions
Description:
The Intersurgical single-use laryngoscope blades and reprocessable handles
are designed to facilitate visualization of the larynx and assist in tracheal
intubation. The blades feature a Light Emitting Diode (LED) light source.
Warnings:
- Only suitably trained, competent personnel should use the laryngoscope.
- Do not use older style incandescent light sources on human tissue.
- Ensure batteries are removed after use and disposed of properly according to local policies.
- Use alkaline 1.5v batteries to avoid rapid failure of illumination.
- Follow proper sterilization procedures for the handles.

installation based on the handle type.
Sterilization of Fibre Optic Laryngoscope Handles:
Use a surgical-grade cotton swab to de-contaminate the lamp. Ensure the
lamp is fully dry before re-inserting it into the laryngoscope handle.

Can Intersurgical laryngoscope blades be reused?
No, all Intersurgical laryngoscope blades are single-use items and should be disposed of after use following local clinical waste disposal policies. -
What type of batteries should be used with the handles?
Handle Medium requires 2xC (LR14) batteries, while Handle Slim Short requires 2xAA (LR6) batteries. Alkaline 1.5v batteries are recommended to prevent rapid illumination failure. -
How should the fibre optic laryngoscope handles be sterilized?
Use a surgical-grade cotton swab for cleaning and ensure the lamp is completely dry before re-inserting it into the laryngoscope handle.
Description
- Intersurgical single use laryngoscope blades and reprocessable handles are designed to facilitate visualisation of the larynx, and to assist when carrying out tracheal intubation.
- The blades have an integrated fibre optic light guide and the handles contain a Light Emitting Diode (LED) light source
Warnings
- Only suitably trained, competent personnel must use a laryngoscope
- Older style incandescent light sources, if left illuminated, can generate heat sufficient to burn human tissue
- Power outputs from some rechargeable batteries may fall rapidly during use, resulting in rapid failure of illumination
- Do not use the products in strong magnetic fields, such as MRI environments
- This range of products must only be used with compatible ISO 7376-3 compliant fibre optic components
Limitations
The laryngoscope handle can be autoclaved for up to 400 18-minute cycles at a temperature of 134°C
Pre-use checks
- Check the product for any damage or loose components. Do not use if the product is damaged
- Engage the blade onto the handle and check that the light illuminates correctly
- Ensure a spare blade and handle are available in case of failure or emergency

All Intersurgical laryngoscope blades are single use items. Dispose of after
use in line with local clinical waste policy.
Battery size and Installation

- Batteries should be treated with care and discarded in accordance with local policies.
- Handles at the end of their useable life should be returned to Intersurgical for disposal. Ensure all batteries are removed.
- Alkaline 1.5v batteries should be used in order to avoid rapid failure of illumination.
Sterilisation of Fibre Optic Laryngoscope Handles
Warning
- Ultrasonic cleaning and flash autoclaving methods are not suitable for fibre optic handles
- Do not use chemical sterilants with caustic ingredients and avoid mineral acids and abrasive agents
- Batteries (including the battery pack in the short handle) and lamps should always be removed prior to cleaning and autoclaving
- Autoclaving temperature should not exceed 140°C Sterilisation should be carried out by personnel with required knowledge and training.
1. An initial manual clean should be undertaken to remove excess contamination by using warm water and a brush
2. The handle should be cleaned in an automated washer/disinfector machine. LED lamps and batteries or battery packs should not be cleaned in these machines
3. Sterilise the product by autoclaving the handle at a temperature of 134–137°C, 2.25Bar for a minimum of 3 minutes
Lamp Cleaning

- A surgical grade cotton swab should be used to de-contaminate the lamp
- Ensure the lamp is fully dry before re-inserting into the laryngoscope
