Introduction

This document provides the operating procedure for installing Thundercomm TurboX RB5 LU GUI (Graphical
User Interface).

NOTE: “TurboX” referred to herein is the English text of our registered trademark

NOTE: Only RB5 platform with 5165 SOM can support LU.

System account

• Account: root
• Password: oelinux123

Operating Procedure

Flash image
Flash image with QFIL tool.

Configure network
As the company network needs to be certified, it is required to send wireless hotspots to devices from a laptop with internet access to certified company network.

1. Set Wi-Fi account and password
   Option 1.Execute the following command on the device.
   nmcli dev wifi connect ‘test_xkx’ password ‘12345678’ iface wlan0
   NOTE: If the network still cannot be connected or the current system does not support this command, proceed with Option 2.
   Option 2.Follow the steps below.
   Step 1.Create the wpa_supplicant.conf file on a Windows PC.
   Step 2. Execute the following command on the command line.
   adb push wpa_supplicant.conf /data/misc/wifi/
   Step 3. Execute the following commands on the device.
   wpa_supplicant -iwlan0 -Dnl80211 -c/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf svc wifi enable reboot

Install gnome (on-screen operation)

Execute the following commands to install gnome.

• apt-get remove weston*

• apt-get remove wayland*

• apt-get install xorg

• apt-get install gnome

• apt-get install lightdm

NOTE: Select gdm3 when you need to select from gdm3/lightdm afterwards.

Remove restriction of root login to GUI

1. Modify file /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-ubuntu.conf
   Step 1. Run the following command to modify the file.
   root@ubuntu:~# vim /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-ubuntu.conf
   Step 2. Open the file and add two lines at the end of the file.
   greeter-show-manual-login=true
   all-guest=false
   Step 3. Run the following commands to test whether the modification in Step 2 is successful.
   root@ubuntu:~# cat /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-ubuntu.conf
   [Seat:*] user-session=ubuntu
   greeter-show-manual-login=true
   all-guest=false

2. Enter folder /etc/pam.d and modify files gdm-autologin and gdm-passwd
   Step 1. Comment out the following line from file gdm-autologin.
   auth required pam_success_if.so user!=root quiet_success
   Step 2. Comment out the following line from file gdm-passwd.
   auth required pam_success_if.so user!=root quiet_success
   Step 3. Run the following commands to validate whether the operation in Step 1 is successful.

   • root@ubuntu:~# cd /etc/pam.d

   • root@ubuntu:/etc/pam.d# cat gdm-autologin | grep auth

   • auth requisite pam_nologin.so

   • auth required pam_succeed_if.so user != root quiet_success

   • auth optional pam_gdm.so

   • auth optional pam_gnome_keyring.so

   • auth required pam_permit.so
     Step 4. Run the following commands to validate whether the operation in Step 2 is successful.

   • root@ubuntu:/etc/pam.d# cat gdm-password | grep auth

   • auth requisite pam_nologin.so

   • auth required pam_succeed_if.so user != root quiet_success

   • @include common-auth

   • auth optional pam_gnome_keyring.so

3. Modify file /root/.profile
   Step 1. Change mesg n to tty -s && mesg n.
   Step 2. Run the following commands to validate whether the operation in Step 1 is successful.
   root@ubuntu:~# cat /root/.profile

   ~/.profile: executed by Bourne-compatible login shells.

   if [ “$BASH” ]; then
   if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
   . ~/.bashrc
   fi
   fi
   tty -s && mesg n || true

GUI function setting

• Open GUI with the following command:

  systemctl set-default graphical.target

• Close GUI with the following command:

  systemctl set-default multi-user.target

Login screen
Restart Ubuntu and log in to the system with root (User Name: root; Password: oelinux123).
Refer to Figure 2-1 for the login screen.

NOTE: Make sure to choose “GNOME” in the dropdown list.

Caution
Upon completion of installation, when you are ready to login, there are multiple desktop programs for your selection; however, only one of them (as shown in Figure 2-2) can be logged in to, while the rest will loop on the login screen, unable to enter the system.

Known issues

• Unable to open the terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T.
• There is no desktop icon. As confirmed afterwards, this system does have an icon and it is required to drag the desktop left or right.
