Using Your Fire Pit
Lighting the Fire
- Place a layer of dry kindling or a natural fire starter onto the center of the fire bowl.
- Place a layer of dry, seasoned hardwood on top of the kindling. Make sure the hardwood is cut in lengths no more than ¼ the diameter of the fire bowl (maximum length should be about 19 inches, or 50 cm).
- Use a long match or long-reach lighter to light the kindling or fire starter, then place the fire screen on the bowl with the provided fire tool.
Tending the Fire
WARNING
- Do not use accelerants (gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, lighter fluid, alcohol, or aerosol sprays) to light, relight, or enhance a fire.
- Never leave the fire unsupervised.
- Always wear protective gloves or use a pot holder when tending a fire.
- Wait until glowing coals have developed before adding any additional wood.
- Carefully remove the fire screen with the provided fire tool.
- Use the fire tool to shift coals and logs to allow for additional airflow. If additional wood is required, place wood on top of the coals, while taking care to not shift the ashes.
- Replace the fire screen with the provided fire tool.
Extinguishing the Fire
- Allow the fire to burn itself out. Do not use water to extinguish a fire, because the hot steam can cause burns and the water may damage your fire pit.
Cleaning and Care
Inspecting
Your fire pit should be inspected regularly to ensure product safety and
longer product life.
WARNING
Do not attempt to inspect your fire pit until the fire is completely out
and your fire pit is cooled completely.
- Check the handle on the fire screen to make sure it’s secure.
- Check all parts for signs of damage or rust.
- If you find any damaged parts, do not operate until repairs or replacement has been completed.
Cleaning
This fire pit should be cleaned regularly to promote a safer experience and
longer product life. Note that after repeated use, a slight discoloration of
the finish may occur.
- Do not attempt to clean your fire pit until the fire is completely out and your fire pit has completely cooled.
- Do not use oven cleaners or abrasive cleaners, because they will damage your fire pit.
- Do not clean any part of your fire pit in a self-cleaning oven, because it may damage the finish.
- Wipe exterior surfaces with a mild dishwashing detergent or baking soda. For stubborn surfaces, use a citrus-based degreaser and a nylon scrubbing brush.
- Rinse with clean water.
- Remove built-up creosote (hard, black deposits) from components with a chimney cleaning product.
Tip: This product is made to resist premature rusting. However, some environments can cause premature rusting. For best results, at the first sign of rust or other corrosion, use an emery cloth, metal-grade sand paper, or a rotary tool to buff away the blemish, then touch up the spot with rust- resistant spray paint available at local hardware stores.
Storing
WARNING
Do not attempt to inspect your fire pit until the fire is completely out and
your fire pit is cooled completely.
- Remove all ashes and safely dispose of them after the fire is out, the coals are cold, and your fire pit is cool to the touch.
- To prevent corrosion, cover your fire pit with a protective vinyl cover (not included). Do not cover your fire pit until the fire has completely cooled. If you do not use a vinyl cover, store your fire pit in a dry location to prevent rust.
