Battery Pack before setting up the appliance.
Charging Battery Pack
-
Place Battery Charger on a dry, flat, fireproof surface indoors.
NOTE: Allow the battery to cool completely before charging. -
Examine Battery Pack. Do not charge a cracked, open, or leaking Battery Pack, or charge a non-recommended type of Battery Pack.
-
The battery Pack is designed to fit this Charger specifically. If Battery Pack does not fit the Charger properly, do not try to insert it. Do not force Battery Pack into the Charger.
-
Plug Charger into a grounded, 120VAC, 60Hz receptacle. Green LED will blink, showing that power is supplied to the charger.
-
Slide Battery Pack onto Charger. Red LED will light continuously while charging.
NOTE: A fully discharged Battery Pack will take about 1 hour to fully charge.
NOTE: While charging, Battery Pack and Charger may become warm to the touch and the Charger′s fan may come on. This is normal. -
Green LED will light continuously when Battery Pack is charged. Unplug Charger and remove Battery Pack when finished.
-
Allow Battery Pack to cool completely before use.
Appropriate Temperature Ranges

Use products at | -15°C (5°F) to 60°C (140°F) |
Store products at | -15°C (5°F) to 60°C (140°F) |
Unplug the charger if | Below 0°C (32°F) or above 40°C (104°F) |
Charging time will increase if you do not charge the battery within this
range.
Store the tool, battery pack, and battery charger in an enclosed clean, dry
area.
Starting the Trimmer
-
Make sure that the vents on the trimmer are clear of any dust and debris.
-
Align the cavity in the battery pack with the tongue on the handle housing (Figure 7).
-
Push the battery pack into the handle until the battery pack locks into the latch (Figure 7).
-
To start the trimmer, press the lockout button, then squeeze the variable-speed trigger (Figure 8).
Shutting Off the Trimmer
To shut off the trimmer, release the trigger. Whenever you are not using the trimmer or are transporting the trimmer to or from the work area, remove the battery pack.
Removing the Battery Pack from the Trimmer
Press the battery latch on the machine to release the battery pack and slide
the battery pack out of the machine (Figure 9).
Advancing the Line Using the Bump Feed
- Run the tool at full throttle.
- Tap the bump button on the ground to advance the line. The line advances each time the bump button is tapped. Do not hold the bump button on the ground.
Note: The line trimming cut-off blade on the grass deflector cuts the line to the correct length.
Note: If the line is worn too short, you may not be able to advance the line by tapping it on the ground. If so, release the trigger and refer to
Advancing the Line Manually (page 12).
Advancing the Line Manually
Remove the battery pack from the trimmer, then push the bump button at the
base of the spool retainer while pulling on the trimmer line to manually
advance the line.
Operating Tips
- Keep the trimmer tilted toward the area being cut; this is the best cutting area.
- The string trimmer cuts when you move it from left to right. This prevents the trimmer from throwing debris at you.
- Use the tip of the string to do the cutting; do not force the string head into uncut grass.
- Wire and picket fences can cause the string to wear rapidly and even break. Stone and brick walls, curbs, and wood can also cause the string to wear rapidly.
- Avoid trees and shrubs. The string can easily damage tree bark, wood moldings, siding, and fence posts.
Replacing the Spool
Use only 2 mm (0.08 inch) diameter monofilament string.
Important: Using a larger diameter string causes the motor to overheat and
fail.
-
Remove the battery.
-
Push in the tab on the side of the spool retainer (Figure 13).
-
Pull the spool retainer up to remove it and remove the spool.
-
To install the new spool, make sure that the string is captured in 1 of the remaining slots on the new spool. Make sure the end of the string extends approximately 150 mm (6 inches). 5. Install the new spool so that the string aligns with the eyelet in the string head. Thread the string into the eyelet.
-
Pull the string extending from the string head so that the string releases from the slot in the spool.
-
Install the spool retainer by pressing the tabs into the slots and pushing down until the spool retainer clicks into place.
Replacing the String
-
Remove the battery.
-
Remove the spool; refer to Replacing the Spool (page 13).
Note: Remove any old string remaining on the spool. -
Each side of the spool accepts approximately 2.5 m (8 ft) of string. Use only 2 mm (0.08 inch) diameter monofilament string.
Note: Do not use any other gauge or type of string, as this could damage the trimmer. -
Insert the string into the anchor slot in the upper part of the spool (Figure 14). Wind the string onto the spool in the direction shown by the arrows on the spool.
-
Place the string in the slot on the upper spool flange, leaving about 150 mm (6 inches) extended beyond the slot.
Note: Do not overfill. After winding the string, there should be at least 6 mm (1/4 inch) between the wound string and the outside edge of the spool. -
Replace the spool and the spool retainer; refer to Replacing the Spool (page 13).
Replacing the Blade
- Press the lock shaft button and turn the spool counterclockwise until it is removed.
- Take out the brush breaker blade from the accessory package and remove the brush breaker sheath.
- Insert the blade into the brushless motor assembly, cover the blade pressing plate and cover the blade pressing cover.
- Put the hexagon check nut and use a four-way socket wrench to tighten it clockwise.
User-Maintenance and Storage
Procedures not specifically explained in this manual must be performed only by a qualified technician.
TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY FROM
ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OR ELECTRIC SHOCK:
Release the Trigger and remove the Battery Pack before performing any
inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures.
TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY FROM APPLIANCE FAILURE:
Do not use damaged equipment. If abnormal noise or vibration occurs, have the
problem corrected before further use.
Cleaning, Maintenance, and Lubrication
-
BEFORE EACH USE, inspect the general condition of the appliance. Check for:
• loose hardware,
• misalignment or binding of moving parts,
• cracked or broken parts,
• damaged electrical wiring,

Do not use your hands to clean the deflector shield and blade. -
AFTER USE, Remove Battery Pack and wipe the external surfaces of the appliance with a clean cloth.
-
Li-Ion BATTERY MUST BE RECYCLED OR DISPOSED OF PROPERLY. Do not short, incinerate or open the battery.
-
Store Battery Pack, Charger, and tool in dry, indoor area out of reach of children and away from metal objects (i.e., paperclips, coins) to prevent shorting.
-
All parts are permanently lubricated. Do not use additional lubrication.
-
Wipe or scrape clean the cutting head area any time there is an accumulation of debris.
-
Check and tighten all fasteners. If any part is damaged or lost, repair or replace it.
-
Brush debris away from air intake vents and exhaust on motor housing to prevent the motor from overheating.
