Introduction

The D and DL Tilting Kettle Power-Aid Cover Kits are shipped complete for field installation on a Groen Model D or DL Kettle. The kits include a spun stainless steel disk cover with studs for attaching the hinge mechanism and a bent rod handle, a spring-assisted power aid hinge mechanism, a “U” shaped riser, and a hardware kit with items needed for attaching the cover and instructions for field installation. The instructions below will guide you through the process of orienting the cover on top of the kettle and securing the assembly bracket to the pedestal cover.

Riser Bracket Installation

  1. Unpack the cover and components and locate the U-shaped riser bracket and mounting hardware.
  2. Remove the four-hole plug caps in the left trunnion plate.
  3. Align the riser to the holes in the trunnion plate as shown.
  4. Align the holes in the riser bracket to the cover as shown and install the mounting bolts, lock washers, and nuts to secure the bracket to the cover, gasket, and backing plate. Tighten the nuts to a 20 ft/lb torque with a 3/8″ open end or socket wrench.

Actuator and Cover Installation and Adjustment

  1. Align the studs on the cover actuator to the holes in the top of the riser bracket. Assemble the fender washers and nuts to the underside of the actuator, but leave them loose enough for adjustment.unified-brands-DH-400L-D-and-DL-Tilting-Kettle-4
  2. Assemble the actuator to the three studs on the domed cover and secure using thread locking compound and the dome nuts supplied in the cover kit. Tighten the dome nuts to 20 in/lb torque with a 1/4 open end or socket wrench.
  3. Ensure the kettle Is tilted to the full upright position and then lower the cover Over the kettle. Adjust the mounting bracket to align the cover over the kettle and then fully tighten the four nuts securing the actuator to the riser to a 10 ft/lb torque with a 1/4″ open end or socket Wrench.unified-brands-DH-400L-D-and-DL-Tilting-Kettle-6
  4. Install the handle spacers over the two studs at the front of the cover and apply thread-locking compound to the ends of the two studs.unified-brands-DH-400L-D-and-DL-Tilting-Kettle-7
  5. Attach the handle over the spacers and secure it with two dome nuts. Tighten the nuts to a 20 ft-lb torque and then install the red ball on the handle end.unified-brands-DH-400L-D-and-DL-Tilting-Kettle-8
  6. Adjust the tension in the actuator assembly by turning the adjusting nuts as shown. Use two 3/4″ open-end wrenches.
