PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
- Consider having someone close enough by to come to your aid when you work near a lead-acid
- Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby in case battery acid contacts skin, clothing, or

PREPARING TO CHARGE
- If necessary to remove the battery from the vehicle to charge, always remove the grounded terminal from the battery first. Make sure all accessories in the vehicle are off, so as not to cause an arc.
- Be sure the area around the battery is well-ventilated while the battery is being
- Clean battery terminals. Be careful to keep corrosion from coming in contact with

DC CONNECTION PRECAUTIONS

- Determine which post of the battery is grounded (connected) to the chassis. If the negative post is grounded to the chassis (as in most vehicles), see (e). If a positive post is grounded to the chassis, see (f).
- For a negative-grounded vehicle, connect the POSITIVE (RED) clip from the battery charger to the POSITIVE (POS, P, +) ungrounded post Connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) clip to the vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery. Do not connect the clip to the carburetor, fuel lines, or sheet-metal body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine block.
- For a positive-grounded vehicle, connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) clip from the battery charger to the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, –) ungrounded post of the battery. Connect POSITIVE (RED) clip to vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery. Do not connect the clip to the carburetor, fuel lines, or sheet-metal body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine block.
- When disconnecting the charger, turn the switches to off, disconnect the AC cord, remove the clip from the vehicle chassis, and then remove the clip from battery See operating instructions for length of charge information
FOLLOW THESE STEPS WHEN BATTERY IS OUTSIDE VEHICLE. A SPARK NEAR THE BATTERY MAY CAUSE BATTERY EXPLOSION. TO REDUCE THE RISK OF A SPARK NEAR THE BATTERY:
- Check the polarity of battery posts. POSITIVE (POS, P, +) battery post usually has a larger diameter than NEGATIVE (NEG, N, –)
- Attach at least a 24-inch-long 6-gauge (AWG) insulated battery cable to NEGATIVE (NEG, N, –) battery
- Connect POSITIVE (RED) charger clip to POSITIVE (POS, P, +) post of
- Position yourself and the free end of the cable as far away from the battery as possible then connect the NEGATIVE (BLACK) charger clip to the free end of the cable.
- Do not face the battery when making the final connection.
- When disconnecting the charger, always do so in the reverse sequence of connecting procedure and break the first connection while as far away from the battery as practical.
- A marine (boat) battery must be removed and charged on shore. To charge it on board requires equipment specially designed for marine

Controls
Reversed Polarity:
The cables are connected improperly. Immediately disconnect the cables and
connect them properly to prevent damage to the battery.
charge Status:
- red Light – The battery is bad or wrong battery voltage is
- Green Light – The battery is charging/fully
- charging: Green Light is on, Amps Gauge Needle shows amps
- Fully charged: Green Light is on , Amps Gauge Needle shows 0A
Note : This is disabled in start mode.
Setting switch:
Use the Setting Switch to change the output amperage between 2/5A, 10A, &
50A, and to select charging and start modes.
Battery type switch:
Use this switch to set the battery type:
- Set to Regular for flooded and maintenance-free batteries.
- Set to AGM for Absorbed Glass Mat batteries
- Set to AC Off to switch off the power
Note : The Amps Gauge shows the amount of current being drawn from the charger. It does not show what the charger is capable of delivering. The current drawn is limited as the battery voltage reaches full charged level. When the battery is fully charged and the Amps Gauge needle settles at 0A, a small current will continue to trickle to the battery. If the charger is not disconnected from the battery, eventually heat build-up will cause the battery acid to boil and overcharge the battery causing damage to the battery. Monitor battery charging progress constantly and if the battery gets warm, stop charging it immediately
Preparing to Charge
Use this charger only on flooded or AGM lead-acid batteries. Other batteries may be damaged or may overheat, leak, or catch fire.

If after 5-10 minutes, the needle does not move off the high end, the battery probably has a short circuit.

- COLD BATTERIE S – begin charging at a low rate, increase as the battery reaches a normal temperature, then the rate will decrease normally.
- DO NOT CHARGE A FROZEN BATTERY . BATTERIE S WITH HYDROMETER EYE: Do not depend on the hydrometer eye to determine the battery charge level
Grounding and AC Power Cord Connection Instructions
The charger should be grounded to reduce the risk of electric shock. The charger is equipped with an electriccord havingg equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded by all local codes and ordinances.
DANGER: Never alter the AC cord or plug provided – if it will not fit the outlet, have the proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. Improper connection can result in a risk of an electric shock.
CAUTION: Risk of Fire or Electric Shock. Connect the battery charger directly to the grounding receptacle (three-prong). An adapter should not be used with a battery charger

- Monitor the charging process. The Charged LED indicator will light up solid green and the needle on the Amps Gauge settles at the 0A position when the battery is fully

Charging Battery Outside Vehicle

12V Engine Starting
NOTICE : Some vehicles with onboard computers may be damaged from the high-current starting output. Thoroughly read the vehicle service manual before using this procedure.
Note : During extremely cold weather or when the battery is severely exhausted, charge the battery for about five minutes before attempting to turn on the engine.
CAUTION! Do not use the Start setting to charge batteries. Use to jump- start only.
- Unplug the Charger AC power cord from the AC outlet.
- For a negative-grounded vehicle, connect the POSITIVE (RED) clip from the battery charger positive (the POS, P, +) ungrounded post of the battery. Connect a NEGATIVE (BLACK) clip to vthe ehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery. Do not connect cthe lip to the carburetor, fuel lines, or sheet‑metal body parts. Connect to a heavy gauge metal part of the frame or engine block.
- NOTICE : If the Reverse Polarity indicator lights, the cables are connected improperly. Immediately disconnect the cables and connect them properly to prevent damage to the battery.

- WARNING! TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY , FIRE, AND DAMAGE TO CHARGER AND BATTERY, follow 5 seconds maximum with 4 minutes minimum rest duty cycle for the Start mode.
- To start the engine, turn the ignition key. ONLY KEEP CHARGER IN START MODE UP TO 5 secondS AT A TIME.
- If engthe ine fails to start, charge the battery for an additional five minutes before attempting to start.
- After the engine starts, unplug the power cord from the outlet before disconnecting the DC cable clamps.
Maintenance Instructions
Procedures not specifically explained in this manual must be performed only by a qualified technician.
TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY: Unplug the charger, disconnect any battery,
and allow the charger to cool completely before performing any inspection,
maintenance, or cleaning procedures.
TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY FROM CHARGER FAILURE: Do not use damaged
equipment. If abnormal noise or vibration occurs, have the problem corrected
before further use
- BEFORE EACH USE, inspect the general condition of the charger. Check for:
- loose hardware,
- cracked or broken parts,
- damaged electrical wiring or cable insulation, and
- any other condition that may affect its safe operation.
- AFTER USE, wipe the external surfaces of the charger with a clean cloth.

2. Check the power at the outlet.
If the outlet is unpowered, turn off the charger and check the circuit breaker.
If the breaker is tripped,
make sure the circuit is the right capacity for the charger and the circuit has no other loads.
3. Unplug the charger and check that the clamps are securely connected to the battery terminals.
4. Turn the AC OFF switch to the battery type that is being charged.

terminals.| Unplug the charger if it is plugged in and reverse the
connections.
The charge Meter stays at the high end of the dial for more than 5-10
minutes.| The battery has a short circuit.| Unplug the charger and discontinue

The charger will not start the vehicle.| The setting switch is set to Charge.| Change the Setting switch to Start.
Follow all safety precautions whenever diagnosing or servicing the charger. Disconnect the power supply before service.

To take advantage of this warranty, the product or part must be returned to us with transportation charges prepaid. Proof of purchase date and an explanation of the complaint must accompany the merchandise. If our inspection verifies the defect, we will either repair or replace the product at our election or we may elect to refund the purchase price if we cannot readily and quickly provide you with a replacement. We will return repaired products at our expense, but if we determine there is no defect, or that the defect resulted from causes not within the scope of our warranty, then you must bear the cost of returning the product.
