Troubleshooting
The lights indicate the current status of your router. To troubleshoot any connection problems, use the table below.
Router Light | Status | Problem |
---|---|---|
Power | Solid Green | None. The router is powered on and ready. |
Solid Amber | The router is starting up after being powered on. |
Solution – When the router is turned on, the Power light turns amber for about 90 seconds and then turns green. If the light does not turn green, the router has a problem.
If the Power light is still amber two minutes after turning on power to the router, complete the following steps.
- Turn the power off and back on to see if the router recovers. If not, proceed to Step 2.
- Clear the router’s configuration to factory defaults.
- Use a sharp object such as a pen or a paper clip to press and hold the Restore Factory Settings button (located on the bottom of the router) for about 5 seconds, until the Power light begins to blink.
- Release the restore factory settings button, and wait for the router to restart, and for the Power light to stop blinking and become solid green. Note : This will set the routers IP address to 192.168.1.1. The factory default settings will be restored so that you can access the router from your Web browser using the factory defaults.
Blinking Amber| Firmware is upgrading or the Restore Factory Settings button
has been pressed and the router is in the process of restoring the factory
default settings.
Blinking Green| Firmware is corrupted.
Solution – To restore your firmware, complete the following steps.
- Make sure that your PC is connected to your router and the router is powered on.
- Insert the Resource CD that came with your router into your PC.
- Click Supporting Software, then Netgear Firmware Recovery Utility, and follow the prompts for the recovery process.
- After firmware recovery is complete, follow the prompts to restore your configuration.
Off| Power is not being supplied to router.
Solution – If the Power and other lights are off, complete the following steps.
- Make sure that the power cord is connected to your router and that the power adapter is connected to a functioning power outlet.
- Check that you are using the power adapter supplied by Netgear for this router.
2.4 GHz| Off| The 2.4 GHz radio is off.
Solid Green| The 2.4 GHz radio is operational.
Blinking Green| Data is being communicated over a wireless network.
5 GHz| Off| The 5 GHz radio is off.
Solid Blue| The 5 GHz radio is operational.
Blinking Blue| Data is being communicated over the wireless network.
USB| Off| No USB device is connected, or the Safely Remove Hardware
button has been pressed and it is now safe to remove the attached
USB device. Solution – Attach USB device as applicable.
Solid Green| The USB device has been accepted by the router and is ready to be
used.
Fast Blinking Green| The USB device is in use.
Internet| Solid Amber| The Internet is not accessible.
Solution – When the router is powered on, the Internet light turns amber for about 70 seconds and then turns green. If the light does not turn green, the router has a problem. If the Internet light is still amber two minutes after turning on power to the router, complete the following steps.
- Turn the power off and back on to see if the router recovers. If not, proceed to step 2.
- Confirm that you have the correct Internet setting.
Blinking Amber| Initializing connection and obtaining an IP address.
Solution – The light should turn green within several minutes. If it does not, check the Internet connection on the modem.
Solid Green| An IP address has been received; ready to transmit data.
Blinking Green| Data is being transmitted and received. If your Internet light
is green or blinking green, then you have a good Internet connection, and your
wiring is correct.
Off| The Ethernet cable is not connected to the modem.
Solution – If the Internet light is off, verify that the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the cable modem, and that both the modem and wireless-N gigabit router are turned on.
If either the LAN or Internet lights do not light up when the Ethernet connection is made, complete the following steps.
- Make sure that the Ethernet cable connections are secure at the router and at the computer.
- Make sure that power is turned on to the connected computer.
- Be sure you are using Ethernet cables like the cable that was supplied with the wireless-N gigabit router.
LAN
Ports 1-4 (Local Area Network)| Solid Green| None. The LAN port has
detected a 1 Gbps link with an attached device.
Blinking Green| Initializing connection and obtaining an IP address.
Solution – The light should turn green within several minutes. If it does not, check the Internet connection on the modem.
Solid Amber| The LAN port has detected a 10/100 Mbps link with an attached
device.
Blinking Amber| Data is being transmitted at 10/100 Mbps.
Off| No link is detected on this port.
Solution – If either the LAN or Internet lights do not light when the Ethernet connection is made, complete the following steps.
- Make sure that the Ethernet cable connections are secure at the router and at the computer.
- Make sure that power is turned on to the connected computer.
- Confirm that you are using Ethernet cables like the cable that was supplied with the wireless-N gigabit router.
WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network)| On| None. Pressing the wireless LAN
button turns on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless radios, indicated by 2.4 GHz
and 5 GHz LEDs being lit.
Off| The 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios are off, and their LEDs are turned off.
Push ‘N’ Connect WPS| On| The WPS function is turned on.
The 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios are off, and their LEDs are turned off.
Solution – The light below the WPS button blinks green when the function is first turned on. Before turning on the WPS button, confirm that the WLAN button is on. If both wireless radios are off (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz LEDs are off), the WPS will not work. Off| The WPS function is turned off.
