Quick Reference Guide

HVT 2.0 High Velocity Therapy

This guide provides basic instructions on how to set up and operate the HVT 2.0 device. Before using the Vapotherm HVT 2.0 device, please review the Instructions for Use, available at our website www.vapotherm.com.

Start Therapy

  • Plug the power cord into an approved outlet and connect to oxygen source.

  • Apply cannula to patient.

  • Insert Disposable Patient Circuit (DPC).

  • Press the [Power] button on the device if the unit does not automatically turn on from the previous step.

  • Select the patient interface type on the screen to lock in the flow range and tap [Confirm].

  • Hang and spike the sterile water bag. Unclip the tubing, if necessary, to start the flow of water.

  • Set the therapy parameters on the device.

  • Once priming completed, tap the [Start
    Therapy] button on the screen.

  • When the temperature on the screen reaches at least 33°C, connect the patient’s cannula to the delivery tube.

Stop / Pause Therapy

  • Tap the [Stop therapy] button on the screen.
  • Confirm by tapping [Yes, stop] on the Confirmation pop-up screen.
  • The device will go into Standby mode.
    Note: You can restart therapy by tapping the [Start therapy] button.

Discontinue Therapy & Shut Down

  • Remove the cannula from the patient, and the DPC and water supply from the HVT 2.0 device.
  • Press the [Power] button to turn off the device.
  • Unplug the power supply from the wall outlet.
  • Dispose of the DPC, water supply, and cannula according to local and federal regulations.
  • Disinfect unit according to instructions in IFU and hospital policy.

Indications / Intended Use

The HVT 2.0 system is intended to deliver warmed and humidified high-flow respiratory gases to spontaneously breathing adult patients and pediatric patients (5 kg and up). The device is intended to be used in hospital and sub- acute facilities.
Contraindications: General
Not appropriate for patients who are not spontaneously breathing, are unable to protect their airway, or have anatomic or injury induced blockage of the nasal pathway to the nasopharyngeal space. The HVT 2.0 system is not for treating OSA and snoring. HVT 2.0 is not for field transport. The HVT 2.0 is MRI unsafe. Do not use it in an MRI environment.
Note: Additional patient monitoring including pulse oximetry is necessary if the HVT 2.0 is used to give supplementary oxygen.

Common Alarms and Alerts

Message Description and Actions to take
Safety Battery Failure The internal Safety Battery is not detected.

Action: Install the battery. Contact your Vapotherm Service Provider for assistance.
No Power Connected| The internal Safety Battery is powering the device.
Action: Plug device into an approved wall outlet.
Circuit Removed During Therapy| The DPC was removed while delivering therapy.
Action: Acknowledge alarm and re-insert the circuit.
Occluded/ Blocked Tube| Occluded delivery tube/cannula.
Action: Remove any kinks, clamps, or obstructions in delivery tube and cannula.
Water Out| The water supply is empty.
Action: Replace the sterile water supply.
Low Gas Temperature| The warm-up took too long. Action: Stop therapy to clear the alarm. Then restart therapy. If alarm persists, contact your Vapotherm Service Provider for assistance.
High System Temperature| The internal system temperature is too high. Action: Check that the vents at the back and bottom of the device are not obstructed.
Oxygen Concentrator Error| The measured oxygen concentration does not match he user-selected value.Action: Check that the selected value in the “Oxygen Source” menu matches the connected oxygen concentrator.

Disposable Patient Circuit Errors

Description Actions to take

An error occurred within the disposable patient
circuit. Therapy stopped.| 1. Tap [Start Therapy] to resume therapy.
2. If the error occurs again, contact your Vapotherm Service Provider for assistance.

System Errors

Description Actions to take

An error was detected by an internal sensor, or a system error has occurred. Therapy stopped. Tap the [More information] button to display an error code. Note: The error code will help
determine the nature of the problem.| An error will not allow therapy to restart.
1. Power off the device, then power it on again.
2. If the alarm occurs again, contact your Vapotherm Service Provider for assistance.
