SAFETY INFORMATION
The following safety information must be observed to ensure maximum personal safety during the operation at this meter:
- Do not use the meter if the meter or test leads look damaged, or if you suspect that the meter is not operating properly.
- Never ground yourself when taking electrical measurements. Do not touch exposed metal pipes, outlets, fixtures, etc., which might be at ground potential. Keep your body isolated from the ground by using dry clothing, rubber shoes, rubber mats, or any approved insulating material.
- Turn off power to the circuit under test before cutting, unsoldering, or breaking the circuit. Small amounts of current can be dangerous.
- Use caution when working above 60V dc or 30V ac rms. such voltages pose a shock hazard.
- When using the probes, keep your fingers behind the finger guards on the probes.
- Measuring voltage that exceeds the limits of the multimeter may damage the meter and expose the operator to a shock hazard. Always recognize the meter voltage limits as stated on the front of the meter.

OPERATION
WARNING: Risk of electrocution. High-voltage circuits, both AC and DC, are very dangerous and should be measured with great care.
- ALWAYS turn the function switch to the OFF position when the meter is not in use. This meter has Auto OFF that automatically shuts the meter OFF if 30 minutes elapse between uses.
- If “OL” appears in the display during a measurement, the value exceeds the range you have selected. Change to a higher range.
NOTE: On some low AC and DC voltage ranges, with the test leads not connected to a device, the display may show a random, changing reading. This is normal and is caused by the high-input sensitivity. The reading will stabilize and give a proper measurement when connected to a circuit.
MODE BUTTON
To select DC/AC Voltage, DC/AC Current, Resistance, Diode, continuity, and
Capacitance check.

To select STROKE 4/2(DIS) Hz.% ms CYL range
DATA HOLD / BACKLIGHT BUTTON
The Data Hold function allows the meter to “freeze” a measurement for later
reference.
Press the DATA HOLD button to “freeze” the reading on the indicator.
The indicator “HOLD” will appear in the display.
Press the DATA HOLD button to return to normal operation.
If Press the BACKLIGHT button for 2 seconds the display light ON Press
BACKLIGHT button2 seconds again to exit the light mode.
RELATIVE BUTTON
The relative measurement feature allows you to make measurements relative to a
stored reference value. A reference voltage, current, etc. can be stored and
measurements made in comparison to that value. The displayed value is the
difference between the reference value and the measured value.
- Perform any measurement as described in the operating instructions.
- Press the RELATIVE button to store the reading in the display and the “REL” indicator will appear on the display.
- The display will now indicate the difference between the stored value and the measured value.
- Press the RELATIVE button to return to normal operation.
AC or DC Voltage Measurements
- Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack and the red test lead banana plug into the positive V jack.
- Turn the rotary switch to the VDC/AC position.
- Press the MODE button to select AC or DC Voltage
- Touch the test probes to the circuit under test and read the voltage on the display.
Note: Pressing the Hz/% button while in the voltage function will switch the display to frequency or duty cycle
AC or DC Current Measurements
CAUTION: Do not make current measurements on the 20A scale for longer
than 30 seconds every 15 minutes. Exceeding 30 seconds may cause damage to the
meter and/or the test leads.
1. Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack and the red test lead banana plug into the;
- Positive uA/mA jack for currents to 400mA
- Positive 20A jack for currents to20A
- Turn the rotary switch to the uA, mA, or A position.
- Press the MODE button to select AC or DC current
- Touch the test probes in series with the circuit under test and read the current on the display.
Resistance or Diode or Continuity or Capacitance Measurements
WARNING: To avoid electric shock, disconnect power to the unit under test
and discharge all capacitors before taking any resistance or capacitance
measurements.
- Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack and the red test lead banana plug into the positive •))) CAP jack.
- Turn the rotary switch to the CAP position.
- Press the MODE button to select or •))) CAP
- Connect the test probes to the two ends of the Resistance, Diode, Continuity, and capacitance or circuit to be measured.
- Read the measured value from the LCD display
- When on the continuity range, a beeping sound shall be heard if the resistance is lower than 150Ω
- When measuring the forward voltage across the diode a normal diode will indicate 0.4V or 0.7V and the reverse voltage will indicate “OL” (same as on open conditions). For a short-circuited diode, a value of 0 mV will be displayed.
- When checking in-circuit capacitance, be sure that the circuit has all power removed and all capacitors are fully discharged. The range control mode in capacitance measurement is auto-ranging.
Frequency or Duty Cycle Measurements
- Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack and the red test lead banana plug into the positive HZ jack.
- Turn the rotary switch to the Hz %duty position.
- Press the Hz/% button to select “Hz” or “%”.
Touch the test probes to the circuit or under test and read the frequency or duty cycle on the display.
Temperature Measurements
- Insert the type K thermocouple probe black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack and the red test lead banana plug into the positive + jack.
- Turn the rotary switch to the select ºCorºF.
- Read the temperature on the display
Pulse Width Measurements
- Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack and the red test lead banana plug into the positive + jack.
- Turn the rotary switch to the Pulse Width position.
- Connect the backtest probe to the ground and connect the red test probe to the signal wire that connects to the component to be measured
Note: the applied time for most fuel injectors is displayed on the negative (-) slope
RPM (TACH) Measurements
- Select the RPM range with the rotary switch
- Select the X10 RPM range with a rotary switch (1,000 to 12,000 RPM). Multiply the displayed reading times by ten to get actual RPM
- Press STROKE 4/2 (DIS) button toward select through RPM 4 for 4-stroke, RPM 2 For 2-stroke, and DIS The wire connection diagram pleases ref. Fig.4.
- Insert the inductive pickup connecting terminal into the meter
- Ground lead in COM terminal.
- Output lead in RPM terminal.
- Connect the inductive pickup to a spark plug wire. If no reading is received, unhook the clamp, turn it over and connect again.
Note:
- Position the inductive pick-up as far away from the distributor and the exhaust manifold as possible.
- Position the inductive pick-up to within six inches of the spark plug or move it to another plug wire if no reading or an erratic reading is received
- RPM4: For RPM of 4-stroke engines which have 1 ignition on every 4 engine strokes
- RPM2: For RPM of DIS (Distributorless Ignition System) & 2-stroke engines which Have 1 ignition on every 2 engine strokes
DWELL ANGLE Measurement
- Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack and the red test lead banana plug into the positive + jack
- Turn the rotary switch to the corresponding position of 4CYL, 5CYL, 6CYL, 8CYL on the “DWELL” range
- Connect the red test probe into the “breaker points” or “- “terminal of the battery.
- Crank engine. The display will show RPM reading
REPLACING THE BATTERY
WARNING: To avoid electric shock, disconnect the test leads from any source of voltage before removing the battery door.
- When the batteries become exhausted or drop below the operating voltage, “BAT” will appear on the right-hand side of the LCD display. The battery should be replaced.
- Follow instructions for installing the battery. See the Battery Installation section of this manual.
- Dispose of the old battery properly.
WARNING: To avoid electric shock, do not operate your meter until the battery door is in place and fastened securely.
BATTERY INSTALLATION
WARNING: To avoid electric shock, disconnect the test leads from any source of voltage before removing the battery door.
- Disconnect the test leads from the meter.
- Open the battery door by loosening the screw using a Phillips head screwdriver.
- Insert the battery into the battery holder, observing the correct polarity.
- Put the battery door back in place. Secure with the two screws.
WARNING: To avoid electric shock, do not operate the meter until the battery door is in place and fastened securely.
NOTE: If your meter does not work properly, check the fuses and battery to make sure that they are still good and that they are properly inserted.
REPLACING THE FUSES
WARNING: To avoid electric shock, disconnect the test leads from any
source of voltage before removing the fuse door.
- Disconnect the test leads from the meter and any item under test.
- Open the fuse door by loosening the screw on the door using a Phillips head screwdriver.
- Remove the old fuse from its holder by gently pulling it out.
- Install the new fuse into the holder.
- Always use a fuse of the proper size and value (0.5A/250V fast blow for the 400mA range, 20A/250V fast blow for the the20A range).
1. Put the fuse door back in place. Insert the screw and tighten it securely.
LIMITED WARRANTY
This Limited Warranty applies only to new products* distributed by SP Tools
Pty Ltd (“SP Tools”). It is a condition of this Limited Warranty Policy that
the purchaser read the owner’s manual for the product and only use the product
to the extent or for the purposes stated therein. The purchaser must also
ensure that all servicing requirements are completed as listed in the owner’s
manual (said servicing is at the owner’s expense). We recommend that all
servicing is completed by an authorized service agent and that records of said
servicing are retained by the purchaser as proof in the event of a warranty
claim.
Whilst the owner’s manual, packaging, and/or other documentation supplied with
SP Tools’ products may provide details in respect of a Limited Warranty, the
terms set out herein supersede these matters, and this Limited Warranty
applies in their place. This warranty is no less advantageous than otherwise
described in such other documentation.
SP Tools agrees, subject to the terms and conditions specified below, to repair or replace at SP Tools’ cost, the product purchased by you when the product does not perform in accordance with its specifications during the limited warranty period, due to any fault in manufacturing, materials and/or workmanship. SP Tools is not liable to repair or replace products that the purchaser uses in a manner that is inconsistent with the owner’s manual or in the circumstances set out in paragraphs 1.1 – 1.7 below. The benefits to the purchaser under this warranty are in addition to other rights and remedies under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth). The limited warranty period, within which a defect in the product must appear, commences from the date of purchase and ceases on the expiration of the specified term below.
THE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD

THE PURCHASERS ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE FOLLOWING
To the extent permitted by law and subject to this Limited Warranty, and as
part of the terms of the sale of the equipment or part thereof: SP Tools shall
not be liable for any form of loss, damage, cost, injury, or harm of any kind
(whether direct, indirect, special or consequential) howsoever arising from
the use or supply of the equipment to the purchaser.
EXCLUSIONS TO LIMITED WARRANTY POLICY
This Limited Warranty will not apply where the equipment or any part thereof:
1.1 Fails due to an accident (including liquid spillage), abuse, misuse,
neglect, or normal wear and tear;
1.2 Has been used in a manner other than for which it was originally designed;
1.3 Has been tampered with or is otherwise than as supplied by SP Tools;
1.4 Where any damage, malfunction, or another failure of the equipment or any
part thereof resulted directly or indirectly from unauthorized persons,
adjusting or failing to adjust any part requiring normal maintenance and
service (examples include adjustment of tappets, air filter maintenance,
lubrication, and tightening of screws nuts and bolts);
1.5 Malfunctions due to the use of defective or incompatible accessories;
1.6 Is damaged by lightning or thunderstorm activity; or
1.7 Has been transported to a country where no authorized Service Agents
exist.
CLAIMING WARRANTY
This Limited Warranty may be claimed in the following manner:
2.1 In order to make a claim under this Limited Warranty, the purchaser must
deliver the equipment or any part thereof to an SP Tools authorized repair
gent and pay all costs of transportation and all costs incidental to making a
claim under this Limited Warranty. The purchaser must first contact SP Tools
(contact details described above) and request the delivery address of an SP
Tools authorized repair agent.
2.2 The purchaser must deliver to the repair agent written reasons why the
purchaser considers that the purchaser has a claim under this Limited Warranty
and must provide all necessary details, including:
- The place, date, and from whom the unit or part was purchased.
- The unit or part involved, Model, and Serial Number.
- The defect, malfunction, or failure in respect of which the claim is being made.
- Proof of service of the unit or part (if applicable)
- Proof of purchase in respect of the unit or part.
2.3 If the Limited Warranty claim is valid, the repair agent will carry out repairs and return the product at no charge to the purchaser. These repairs are limited to the Limited Warranty fault identified and as such will not include any other faults due to misuse, abuse, failure to maintain, fair wear and tear, or the replacement of serviceable items such as oil, spark plugs, air filters, fuel, etc.
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
Note: Units which are failing to perform in accordance with specifications due to non-warrantable causes will be subject to freight, repair, and or quote charge
