Proposition 65 Warnings
Welding or cutting equipment produces fumes or gases which contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause birth defects and, in some cases, cancer. (California Health & Safety Code Section 25249.5 et seq.)
This product contains chemicals, including lead, known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after use.
WARNING! CAREFULLY READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING YOUR
NEW AUTO-DARKENING WELDING HELMET
The Auto-darkening welding helmet is designed to protect the eyes and face
from specks, spatter, and harmful radiation under normal welding conditions.
The Auto-darkening filter automatically changes from a light state to a dark
state in only 1/25000S when an arc is struck and it returns to the light state
when welding stops.
BEFORE WELDING
- Peel off the cover lens screen film on both sides of the filter cartridge before using the new Auto-Darkening Welding helmet
- Select the desired filter shade according to the welding process, wire diameter, and operating current. The filter shade adjustment is located on the side of the helmet.
- The helmet should fit tight to help reduce light reflection into the helmet through the space between the shell and the head. Follow the below instructions for adjusting the helmet fit:
1. To adjust the fit to the top of the head two (2) overlapping belts are held together by a snap. Pull the belts in opposite directions to release the snap and slide the belts to either loosen or tighten the fit. Once a fit is found align the snap with an adjacent hole and reattach the belts.
2. To adjust the distance between the helmet and your face loosen the two (2) adjustment screws on either side of the helmet and pull the helmet away or push it towards your face to set the appropriate distance. Once the desired distance is set re-tighten the adjustment screws.
3. To adjust the fit around your head uses the ratchet wheel at the back of the headband. Adjust it by pushing down the ratchet wheel and turning right or left to suit the size of your head.
PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS:
- This product is suitable for a variety of welding processes.
- When the arc is struck, the Auto-darkening filter will turn from a clear state to a dark state. The response time is less than 1/25000S.
- The helmet provides the user’s eyes and faces full protection against UV and IR radiation during the entire welding process, even in the clear state. The UV/IR protection level is up to shade 15 (DIN) at all times.
- The product is in full conformity with related DIN, EN safety standards, and ANSI Z87.1 standards.
DARK SHADER SELECTION
- Select the shade level according to the welding process and the value of the welding current by turning the potentiometer knob on the left side of the helmet
- The shade number can be between DIN9 to DIN13. Select a shade number by turning the shade knob until the arrow points to the required setting (See Shade Guide Table)
- ALWAYS use suggested shade numbers instead of minimum shades.
- Provide additional task lighting that suits welders’ needs.
- ALWAYS use the same shade as the welder’s if you are directly observing the welding arc.
LENS SHADE SELECTOR
Shade numbers are given as a guide only and may be varied to suit individual needs.

*As a rule of thumb, start with a shade that is too dark to see the weld zone. Then go to a lighter shade which gives a sufficient view of the weld zone without going below the minimum.
SENSITIVITY and Delay SELECTION
(available on the model ST-1S only)
Sensitivity Control
The sensitivity can be set to LOW or HIGH by using the infinitely dial knob.
The LOW setting suits excess ambient light or with another welding machine
close by. The HIGH setting suits low amperage welding and welding in areas
with low light conditions, especially low amperage argon arc welding.
Selections between LOW and HIGH are suitable for most indoor and outdoor
welding operations.
Delay Control
When welding ceases, the viewing window automatically changes from dark back
to light but with a pre-set delay to compensate. The delay time can be set to
MIN (0.1 sec) or MAX (1.0 sec), by an infinite dial the knob inside the
cartridge. The minimum delay suits spot or short welds. The maximum delay
suits heavy current welding and reduces eye fatigue from the arc. Selections
between MIN and MAX are suitable for most indoor and outdoor welding
operations.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING! FOR YOUR SAFETY & PROTECTION, READ ALL SAFETY WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AND COMPLETELY BEFORE USING THIS PRODUCT. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY CAUSE DAMAGE OR PERSONAL INJURY.
- Do not place the helmet on a hot surface
- Do not immerse the filter in water or any other liquid
- Protect the filter from being in contact with liquid or dirt. Clean filter surface regularly.
- The front cover lens is not unbreakable and does not provide extraordinary protection against flying particles, splash, spray, and spatter. The helmet will only protect the eyes and face from radiation and sparks.
- Never open or tamper with the Auto-Darkening filter
- The outside of the lens must be equipped with an outside protection plate (included) to prevent potential non-repairable hazards.
- Keep away from children, children must never be allowed in the work area. DO NOT! let them handle machines, tools, or extension cords.
- DO NOT! Use if the filter does not darken immediately upon striking the arc.
- DO NOT! Use the helmet as a hand shield. Wear the helmet correctly.
- Wear approved safety glasses with side shields under your helmet.
- Use protective screens or barriers to protect others from flash and glare; warn others not to watch the arc.
LENS & HELMET MAINTENANCE
- DO NOT! use corrosive solvent on the filter screen or any of the components of the helmet
- DO NOT! immerse the filter lens in water or any other liquid
- If the helmet is not in use, please keep it in a dry place. Be aware that the Auto-darkening filter should not be placed in direct light to avoid unnecessary filter adjustments. It may cause damage to the control system.
- Clean the filter lens with a clear lint-free tissue or cotton cloth
- You should inspect this helmet frequently and immediately replace worn or damaged parts.
