NOTICES

Only properly trained service personnel may perform installation and service procedures. (In other words: electricians, service personnel employed by or active in an organization, business, or service).

All power must be turned off prior to wiring and installing.
Warranty is void if the EDGE GSF System is used in a manner not specified by the manufacturer.
Before being used, the EDGE GSF System must be properly installed by authorized personnel. Please verify with your dealer that the installation has been completed and is ready for use.

This Quick Start Guide is divided in two parts:

  • Installation
  • System Operation

Details on installation of the stalls can be found in the GSF Stall Installation Manual #PNEG-2332.
Details on installation and configuration of the EDGE GSF System can be found in the EDGE GSF System Installation Manual #890-00685.
Details on the operation of the EDGE GSF System can be found in the EDGE GSF System User’s Manual #89000684.

INSTALLATION

The following items must be in place before the EDGE GSF System can be installed:

  • Chain Disk
  • Electrical wiring and outlets
  • Ethernet communication cables

EDGE GSF System Installation Order:

  • GSF Stalls in pens
  • EDGE GSF Feeders in stalls
  • EDGE GSF Feeder to chain disk
  • EDGE GSF LFID Antennas
  • Sprayers (if required)
  • EDGE GSF Controller Screenless
  • Network (router, Ethernet switch, access point)
Network

The factory configured network infrastructure will present two WiFi networks after installation:

  • ESF-NETWORK
  • ESF-CLIENT-NETWORK

ESF-NETWORK is the private network used exclusively by the EDGE GSF Feeders to communicate with the EDGE GSF Controller Screenless. ESF-CLIENT-NETWORK is the network for the users and the GSF Wand to access the EDGE GSF Controller Screenless or to perform maintenance.

EDGE GSF Feeders

The EDGE GSF Feeders must be linked to the EDGE GSF Controller Screenless with proper pen/stall parameters. These parameters can be configured from both the EDGE GSF Feeders and EDGE GSF Controller Screenless.
Note: The room and the pens must be created first in the EDGE GSF Controller Screenless before configuring/linking each EDGE GSF Feeder.

Calibrating an EDGE GSF Feeder

The EDGE GSF Feeders must be calibrated with the type of feed being used. During a new setup or when you change the type of feed, you must perform a calibration.

What You Should Know
The EDGE GSF Feeder dispenses the feed on a time bases, so the type and texture of feed has an effect on how much is dispensed for a certain amount of time.

All the EDGE GSF Feeders share the same calibration data. Once you perform a calibration on one EDGE GSF Feeder, it is propagated to all the others. You can calibrate at any time, but at the end of the process, all the EDGE GSF Feeders will receive the new calibration data.

BEFORE PROCEEDING: Make sure that the auger is full of feed. If required, use the Manual Feed feature to fill it.

Procedure:

  1. Use an empty bucket to catch the feed.
  2. Weigh the empty bucket.
  3. Navigate to the calibration menu on the EDGE GSF Feeder.
  4. Place the empty bucket under the auger.
  5. Press Enter to start the first pass of feed dispensing.
  6. Weigh the bucket with the feed.
  7. Subtract the weight of the empty bucket from the weight of the bucket with the feed to get the actual weight of the feed that was dispensed.
  8. Enter the feed weight into the EDGE GSF Feeder.
  9. Empty the bucket.
  10. Repeat the process for a second pass.
  11. After the second pass feed weight has been entered, the EDGE GSF Feeder will calculate the mean of the two passes and send that value to the EDGE GSF Controller Screenless.
  12. After 15 minutes, the EDGE GSF Controller Screenless will send the new calibration information to all the EDGE GSF Feeders.

SYSTEM OPERATION

Configuration

The EDGE GSF Controller Screenless web interface is the main way for the user to configure the system. Use a web browser to enter the following information in the EDGE GSF Controller Screenless:

  • Room
  • Pens
  • Time, date, timezone
  • Site Name
  • Controller Name
  • Feed curves (if default one is not used)
Adding Sows to the System

The EDGE GSF Feeders (or GSF Wand) detect the sows from their electronic tags and continuously communicate their feeding status to the EDGE GSF Controller Screenless. From the EDGE GSF Controller Screenless, the user could configure the feeding parameters as a whole and/or per sow. There are two ways to register a sow to the system:

  • Manually: Use the GSF Wand to manually detect a sow and register it to the system.
  • Automatically: A new sow is automatically added to the system as it enters a stall for the first time. The “New Sow” then appears on the new sow list. As soon as the parameter are entered for the new sow, the sow will be removed from the new sow list and only appear in the main sow list.

NOTE: Only one RFID tag can be used per sow in the system. If a RFID tag is re-used, then the previous sow information must be removed from the system before assigning the RFID to a new sow.
