Vortex HUNTING SYSTEM
WARNING
Read and understand all instructions before assembling and using this Vortex
Decoy Spinner. Failure to follow the warnings and precautions may result in
serious injury or death.
WARNING
Always connect the red battery connector to the positive battery terminal on
the battery first. Then connect the black battery connector to the negative
battery terminal. Inspect the power cable for visible damage before connecting
to the battery. Do not connect to the battery if the damage is visible. Do not
connect to the battery in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or other
combustibles. The motor used in the Cabela’s Vortex is water-resistant and
will not be bothered by rain and use around water. However, it is not designed
to be totally submerged in water.
This Cabela’s Vortex hunting system was designed to be used with any of the
spinning-wing decoys on the market that have the operating battery installed
in the decoy. If you want to use it with the wind-driven models of spinning-
wing decoys, you will have to replace the support strings with solid wire, to
keep your decoy from spinning.
SET UP
Pick a spot to place your vortex. (Keep in mind the Vortex will spin your
decoys in a 12 ft circle.)
NOTE: Your Vortex decoy spinner comes with an adjustable stake. However,
an ordinary steel T-Post may also be used. When installing the stake in the
ground, the top of the post should be at a minimum of 4 ft above the ground or
surface of the water.
STAKE ASSEMBLY
- Press the lower stake section into the ground. This can be accomplished by stepping or pounding on the step on the side of the stake.
- Install The upper stake section into the lower stake and pin using the included wire pin so that the top of the stake is a minimum of 4 feet above the surface of the ground or water. NOTE: There are 4 possible positions to pir the upper stake.
VORTEX ASSEMBLY

Attach the motor bracket to the top of the stake or T-Post and tighten The two thumbscrews.

Slide the square end of the 5 — foot arms over the square ends of the yoke at the top of the motor bracket.
NOTE: Be sure to keep the metal loops at : the end of the bar on the bottom. -
Attach the wiring harness to the motor by pushing the connector together. Run the wire to your battery.
NOTE: The wiring harness is 75 feet long, so you must be able to place your battery within 75 feet of the Vortex.
ATTACHING DECOYS There are two options for connecting decoys to the
Vortex arms. It is recommended that you use two decoys of similar size and
style for best performance.
DECOYS WITH SQUARE MOUNTING POST
I. Loosen the wing screw on the square post at the end of the 5-foot arms arm.
Insert post of decoy into the square tube and secure using the wing screw.
Note – The Vortex will rotate in a clockwise direction so make sure to install
your decoy so it will fly in the correct direction.
DECOYS WITHOUT MOUNTING POST
In order to attach decoys without a molded post, you will need to drill the
decoys and attach to the arms using the supplied string.
- In the top center of your decoy, drill 2 — 3/16″ holes. One at the base of the decoy’s neck and the other at the rear of the decoy.

2. Thread the end of one of the support strings through the front hole and into the body of the decoy, then thread on one of the flat washers and tie an overhand knot below the washer.
3. Now thread the other end of the support string through the rear hole in the decoy and through a flat washer. Adjust the length of the line so that the top of the loop is approximately 7 inches from the decoy.
4. Attach the decoys to the ends of the 5-foot arms by making a loop in the decoy support string, threading it through the metal loops on the end of the 5-foot arms, and wrapping it up and over the square post. NOTE: Be sure that both decoys are attached so they will fly in a clockwise direction.
TURNING ON THE VORTEX
- Turn on your spinning wing decoys.
- Conned the black battery connector to the negative post on your battery. Conned the red battery connector to the positive post on your battery.
- Use remote to turn on/off Vortex. Remote has a range of up to 150 ft. (remote battery not included).
NOTE Make sure the area around the vortex is clear and nothing is in the way of the arms before correcting the vortex to the battery.
Even though the Vortex is very capable of attracting ducks all by itself, the use of additional decoys in the area of the Vortex will increase your odds even more.
