WARNING!
- Do not open cover. No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel
- Do not place the product in a location near a heat source such as a radiator, or in an area subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust, mechanical vibration or shock

- If used improperly, batteries may explode or leak and cause damage or injury. In the interest of safety: Make sure you observe the correct polarity when replacing batteries
- Avoid using new batteries together with used ones
- Avoid mixing different types of batteries
- Remove batteries if the appliance is to remain unused for an extended period of time
- Never keep batteries together with metallic objects such as ballpoint pens, necklaces, hairpins, etc. Used batteries must be disposed of in compliance with whatever regulations for their safe disposal that may be observed in the region in which you live.
- Batteries must not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.
- Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.

12V POWER INPUT
Connect the supplied 12V PSU here.
HEADPHONE OUTPUT
Connect a pair of 3.5mm headphones here. Please note when headphones are
inserted the internal speakers automatically mute.
OUTPUTS LEFT/RIGHT
Connect your keyboard to mixers, amps and interfaces here.
MIC INPUT
Connect a compatible microphone (not supplied) to the Mic input. Singing or
speech will be heard through the keyboard’s speakers.
BATTERIES
To power the keyboard without the PSU, insert 6 x D batteries (not included)
into the battery compartment, paying attention to the correct polarity.
GETTING STARTED
POWER
After safely connecting the supplied PSU first to the keyboard and then to the
mains power, press the POWER button (2) to turn on the instrument. The LED
display (13) will light up. When this display is not required for a specific
function, it will show the current tempo, which defaults to 120BPM. Pressing
the power button again will turn off the keyboard.
VOLUME ADJUSTMENT
Control the master volume by pressing the MASTER VOL +/- buttons (3). The LED
display (13) shows the volume level from “U00” to “U15”. Pressing the +/-
buttons simultaneously will reset to the default volume level.
The accompaniment volume can also be adjusted, using the ACCOMPANIMENT VOLUME
+/- buttons (4). The LED display (13) shows the accompaniment volume level
from “A00” to “A15”.
WARNING! To prevent damage to your hearing, speakers, and other audio equipment, reduce the volume and have the power off before connecting to any other equipment.
DEMO SONGS
- The MK-4000 has 12 in-built demo songs. Press the DEMO ONE button (15) to play a single demo song on a loop. “d01” will show on the LED display.
- Press DEMO ONE to stop playback. Press DEMO ONE again to start playing the next demo song. The display will indicate which demo song is playing.
- Press the DEMO ALL button (16) to play all 12 songs in sequence. Press DEMO ALL again to stop playback.
- The tempo of the demo songs can be adjusted using the TEMPO +/- buttons (5).
- When playing demo songs, use the +/- buttons on the number keypad (19) to move to the next or previous song, or enter a 2-digit number from 01 to 11 to select the songs as required.
TIMBRE SELECTION
Press the TIMBRE button (15) followed by the required timbre number on the
number keypad to select from 100 different timbres, numbered 00 to 99. The
default tone will be “00 Acoustic Grand Piano” (“t00” on the display). Use the
+/- controls on the number keypad (19) to scroll through the different sounds.
When using other functions, press the TIMBRE button (15) to return to/enable
to the timbre select function.
RHYTHM SELECTION
Press the RHYTHM button (20) followed by the required rhythm number on the
number keypad to select from 100 different rhythms, numbered 00 to 99. The
default rhythm will be “00 16 Ballad 1” (“r00” on the display). Use the +/-
controls on the number keypad (19) to scroll through the different beats. Use
the START/STOP button (31) to control playback. When using other functions,
press the RHYTHM button (20) to return to/enable to the rhythm select
function.
FILL-IN
Pressing the FILL-IN button (29) will momentarily change the rhythm patters,
to add variety to your performances. Fills can be added at any time during
rhythm or auto-accompaniment playback.
INTRO/ENDING
This button allows you to insert an intro section at the start of a rhythm or
add an ending section at the end of your performance. Press the INTRO/ENDING
button (28) before starting the rhythm to add the intro, and again during
playback to add the ending section and then stop the rhythm.
TEMPO
Use the TEMPO +/- buttons (5) to increase or decrease the rhythm speed. The
tempo range is 60-240BPM, in increments of 4BPM. The default tempo will be
120BPM. Pressing and holding either the +/- buttons will adjust the tempo
quickly. Pressing both tempo +/- buttons simultaneously will reset to the
default 120BPM value.
METRONOME
The MK-4000 has an in-built metronome feature that can be started and stopped
by pressing the METRONOME button (22).
The number of beats per measure can be set from 1-8. The first time the METRONOME button is pressed the metronome sound will play one beat per measure and the display will show “1-0”. Press the METRONOME button again to stop playback, the display will show “OFF”. The second time the METRONOME button is pressed the metronome sound will play two beats per measure and the display will show “2-0”. This sequence continues up to 8 beats per measure, then cycles back to 1 beat per measure.
Use the TEMPO +/- buttons (5) to adjust the tempo of the metronome as required. The tempo range is 60-240BPM, in increments of 4BPM.
RHYTHM & ACCOMPANIMENT SYNCHRO START
The MK-4000 can be set to begin playing a rhythm at the same time as the
accompaniment begins. To do this, firstly ensure that single or fingered chord
mode is selected. Then, select the desired rhythm and press the SYNC button
(30) to prepare for synchro start. Now, when you start playing the keyboard
keys, the rhythm will begin to play.
Use the START/STOP button (31) to control the rhythm playback.
SUSTAIN
Note sustain can be added by pressing the SUSTAIN button (7). “S-1” will be
shown on the display when this effect is turned on. Pressing the SUSTAIN
button again will disable the effect and show “S-0” on the display.
VIBRATO
Press the VIBRATO button (8) to add a vibrato effect to the notes being
played. “On” will be shown on the display when this effect is turned on.
Pressing the VIBRATO button again will disable the effect and the display will
show “OFF”.
SINGLE KEY AUTO BASS CHORD
Pressing the SINGLE button (26) allows you to play a single key chord in the
“chord zone” of the keyboard (left-hand 19 keys) as displayed in the table
below. “C-1” will be shown on the display. The major chords are marked above
the keys. Minor chords can be played by pressing the major key and any black
key to its left.
Seventh chords can be played by pressing the major key and any white key to
its left. Minor seventh chords can be played by pressing the major key and
both any white key and any black key to its left. Please see the example
fingering in the diagram below:
Press the CHORD OFF button (23) to return to normal keyboard operation. The
display will show “OFF”. FINGERED CHORD BASS CHORD
Pressing the FINGERED CHORD button (25) allows you to play a fingered chord in
the “chord zone” of the keyboard (left-hand 19 keys) as displayed in the table
below. “C-2” will be shown on the display. The fingering for C-root chords is
shown below:
Press the CHORD OFF button (23) to return to normal keyboard operation. The
display will show “OFF”. MANUAL BASS
This feature allows you to select one timbre for the “bass region” left-hand
19 keys and a different timbre for the rest of the keyboard. Firstly, select
the required timbre for the bass region. Next, press the MANUAL BASS button
(24). The display will show “C-3”. Now select the required timbre for
the remaining keys. Play the keys to hear the two separate sounds. Chords must
be played manually in this mode.
Press either the MANUAL BASS button (24) again or the CHORD OFF button (23) to
return to normal keyboard operation. The display will show “OFF”.
TRANSPOSE
This function allows you to shift the overall key of the keyboard in steps of
one semitone. The range is +/- 6 semitones. Press the TRANSPOSE +/- buttons
(6) to increase or decrease by one semitone as required. The display will show
the value range from -06 to 06. Holding both TRANSPOSE +/-buttons down
simultaneously will return the MK-4000 to normal pitch.
PERCUSSION KEYS
The MK-4000 has 8 percussion sounds, playable on the dedicated percussion
buttons (27), and also 61 keyboard key percussion sounds as indicated by the
symbols above the keys; accessed by pressing the KEYBOARD PERCUSSION button
(14). In this mode the display will show “Per”. Pressing the KEYBOARD
PERCUSSION button again will revert to normal keyboard operation. The display
will show “OFF”.
RHYTHM PROGRAMMING
The MK-4000 allows you to create custom rhythms by programming percussion
sounds. Press the PROG button (11) and the keyboard is automatically set to
percussion mode. The display will show “PRG”. Both the drum sounds from the
percussion buttons and percussion sounds from the keyboard keys can be
programmed up to a maximum of 32 beats. Recording stops automatically if 32
beats are reached, and the display will show “FUL”.
When you have finished programming your rhythm, press the PRO PLAY button (12) to play back your rhythm in a loop. The display will show “PLY”. Use the TEMPO +/- buttons (5) to increase or decrease the rhythm speed as required. Press the PRO PLAY button again to stop playback and clear the programmed rhythm from the keyboard’s memory.
Please note: Recording programmed rhythms will wipe any songs previously stored using the record function.
RECORDING & PLAYBACK
To record your playing press the REC button (9) to enable the recording
function. The display will show “rEC”. The metronome will play to assist with
timing and, if not required, can be turned off by pressing the METRONOME
button (22). Begin playing to record your performance and press the [REC]
button again to stop recording. Performances of up to 63 notes can be
recorded. Recording stops automatically if 63 notes are reached, and the
display shows “FUL”.
Press the PLAY button (10) to playback the recorded melody. The display shows
“PLY” and the TEMPO +/- buttons (19) can be used to speed up or slow down the
performance as required. When playback is finished, the display shows “1CH”.
Press the PLAY button to listen to the recording again or press the REC button
twice to clear the recording from the keyboard’s memory. The display shows
OFF”.
Please note: Recording songs will wipe any rhythms previously stored
using the rhythm programming function.
ONE-KEY PLAY
This training feature is designed to help you practice your timing, using the
notes of the in-built songs.
Press the ONE KEY button (17) to enable this training function. The display
will show the selected demo song, e.g “d01”, and the system waits for you to
press any key on the keyboard to begin.
Press the +/- buttons on the number keypad (19) to scroll through the different songs to be learnt or enter a two-digit number (from 01 to 11) to directly select a song.
As it is designed to aid timing, during this training mode the melody of a
song can be played by pressing ANY single key in accordance with the rhythm.
Simply play a key in time with the music and playback will continue.
After finishing the song, the system will wait for you to press any key again
to re-start the song or press the ONE KEY button (17) again to exit this
training function.
GUIDE
This training feature plays the accompaniment for the in-built songs
automatically and allows you to play the melody.
Press the GUIDE button (18) to enable this training function. The display will show the selected demo song, e.g “d01”, and the system waits for you to press any key on the keyboard to begin.
Press the +/- buttons on the number keypad (19) to scroll through the different songs to be learnt or enter a two-digit number (from 01 to 11) to directly select a song.
When you press any key on the keyboard to begin, it begins to play the accompaniment. If there are no keys played in 5 seconds, the system will begin playing the melody itself, until a key is pressed again.
The TEMPO buttons (5) can be used to speed up or slow down the song as
required.
After finishing the song, the system will wait for you to press any key again
to re-start the song or press the GUIDE button (18) again to exit this
training function.
