Getting Started

Overview
The xTag is a small solar-powered, animal-mounted asset tracker used to monitor livestock animals. Through the 701x app the tag provides remote users with location and health information of an animal.
Downloading the 701x App
To interface with xTag, download the 701x app from the App Store or Google Play Store and install it onto your phone.

Setting Up xTAG

Follow the steps below to set up your xTAG for the first time.

  1. Open the 701x app and follow the on-screen prompts to create an account. Then, log in to the account.
  2. Remove the tag from the box.
  3. Tap add a new stage in the app.
  4. Scan the 3D barcode affixed to the back of the tag. The tags information will automatically populate into your app.
  5. Your tag is now ready to be implemented.

Repeat steps 2 through 4 for all the tags you want to implement.

Implementing xTag

Now that you have set up all the tags you want to implement, the process is the same as applying other ear tags.

  1. Secure your livestock to reduce the risk of injury to yourself or the animal.
  2. Locate a suitable tagging site on the animal’s ear – the middle portion between the upper and lower cartilage.
  3. Prepare a standard ear tag applicator and clean it to decrease the risk of infection.
  4. Load the tag into the applicator and position it over the tagging site.
  5. Clamp the applicator quickly and firmly.
  6. Release the applicator and ensure the tag is correctly positioned.
  7. Optional – if you wish to apply your own numbered tag you may do so in the same ear.

The xTag has now been implemented and will begin recording data for that animal. You can now monitor your herd remotely from the 701x app.
